Tenzin was such a badass in Korra. He was a non-violence Airbender but when his family and home is on the line, he'll whip up a hurricane to defeat his enemies. He almost went toe to toe by himself against the red lotus who were criminals out to kill when all he wanted to do was peace

I think once jinorah reaches her full potential she will be stronger than everyone. Gyatso was able to be amongst 2 avatars. Unfortunately for Aang and Tenzin they had the weight of the world with them! Something that limit the free spirit of airbenders

You can tell Monk Gyatso if he have lived in the time of the main story would have been the airebender representative of the White Lotus.

I think Aang and Monk Gyatso were on the same level of air bending, looking at the so many things Aang could do with air in the ATLA. Suffocating was not jus' Aang's thing and doing. Despite Aang's looks as a 12-year-old kid, his air bending was still the strongest in history. That was proven when he singlehandedly stopped a volcano without entering the Avatar State. Like, that air bending was so powerful in that scene. You wouldn't argue with me, watching that scene where a stopped a volcano, and other scenes, as well, where he displayed powerful air bending skills and techniques. He was already a master and a prodigy, even before he turned 12. Aang wasn't a ferocious and aggressive fighter like other benders. He was extremely great.

i always actually loved that air nomads are that much pacifist, because that leaves space for my headcanon that implies they do it because they are op af and that is why they don't have sub bendings. Because they are potentially too OP. And no avatar could get to know the real airbending potential as air nomads always tought the bending as a deffensive

Jinorah might well be the most versatile Airbender ever...her spiritual prowess is pretty much unmatched by any non avatar. She created multiple abilities in LoK that NOBODY else had. Tenzin's pure combat ability probably doesn't get talked about enough. Defeating Zaheer 1 v 1 and stalemating up to three of the most powerful Red Lotus members at once is insane. Especially when not the main character. Aang has to be #1 though. At 12 years old he was not only defeating professional firebenders like nothing, he did it super easily and while not even going 100% most of the time. He effortlessly just danced around them and played with them like they weren't there. Imagine a 12 year old going against a 25 year old pro in literally any real world martial arts competition. As toph said...imagine me at my prime.

I don't know if I'd rank Gyatso number 1. Great feat yes, but these were fire nation soldiers that have always been shown to be fodder in the series. Even with the comet amp, they can't be compared to Ozai, Zuko, Iroh, or Azula level benders.

I think It’s not fair you added Avatar Aang to this list. He’s an avatar and do not deserve to be listed among the ordinary airbenders. I love Tenzin. He's one of my favorite characters in the franchise. That said, I think Zaheer is more powerful than him. Tenzin was obviously steonger during their first ie counter, however once Zaheer becomes "untethered," everything changes. Zaheers ability to fly makes him too fast and the range on his attacks becomes pretty crazy. Not to mention the fact that Zaheer is likely to be stronger in any of the speliritual aspects of Airbending. Zaheer is more powerful than Tenzin.

I just though about something, the color of the eyes in the avatar world is based on the element running through the blood of the parents (all water bender and all of water tribes origins have blue eyes, same with fire and earth) and by seeing Mako and Bolin being mixed-nations we saw the brown = fire and green = earth. But with the harmonic convergence people of all origins gained air bending (until then only grey eyed characters were airbenders) but they kept the eye color that they had before, so does that means that if their childrens inherits the capacity to airbend (or inherit it in their blood to pass to a future generation) do they gets grey eyes or do they keep the color of their parents, does that means that only Aang bloodline will have grey eyes ? Edit : I forgot Jinora had brown eyes

Kai deserves to be higher on the list but age was a factor He pulled many moves that were unexpected from someone like him. The combustion blast he survived was from smart thinking. The move he used on the bison poachers. The moves he used on the Dai Li He even learned to use the Glider. And most especially, first dude to rizz up a female air bender (yes before Bolin)

Aang is Confirmed to be superior to Gyatso

In my opinion Zaheer should be #1. Not having him in the top 3 is a crime. 1. He studied airbenders his whole life as well as their forms 2. He learned to use air bending offensively 3. When he was granted air bending he was immediately nearly at master level right out of the gate. 4. He is one of only two known air benders who achieved the ability of flight. Not even aang or Gyatso could do that. 5. Had he been a bender his whole life his potential would have been unrivaled.

Jinora is a prodigy who is unmatched by anyone else in the show(s), she would be #1 on my list.

I think Jinora should probably rank ahead of Zaheer if not Tenzin because of her mastery of the spiritual side, something only Aang on this list can really compare to. Even Tenzin admits his failure in that department as his greatest weakness.

Some of these characters are amazing like guru lahima but also consider the fact that they were never brought to life if u don't get i mean animated

Most firbenders were very powerful during an eclipse, but not to the extent that Ozai was. This is because Ozai was already an extremely powerful bender, and hence, his power grew by a greater factor during the comet. During Sozin’s comet it is shown that non-firebenders could still take out multiple firebenders during the comet. Because of this, I think that while impressive, Gyattso’s killing of those benders is not even close to the kind of power displays Aang has shown. Aang is still goated.

After watching the live action I can see why gyatso is number 1 even if most people don’t consider it cannon gyatso held back and damn near completely contested the firelord with the comets power on top of that
