Mina on the Detroit Lions "They're leaving a lot of explosive opportunities on the table created by their run game." "They haven't been able to tap into that, is it Jared Goff?" Meanwhile, Goff threw for the second most yards in the league...... Just stellar journalism here.
@giglz3887
@giglz3887 Ай бұрын
And the majority of Goff’s effectiveness come between the numbers inside 20 yards from the line (Goff is one of the best in the league at area). His numbers are below league average outside the numbers 20+ downfield. They still have explosives but gibbs and st brown are get the ball in their hands in space and let them cook. Williams is the downfield killer but his consistency hasn’t been there for a few reasons. Potential is there. Mahomes just won his second straight super bowl mvp and he spent the offseason talking about how he wants to be better in multiple areas next year but i guess Goff is above criticism.

@@FightThePower1 i dont think its about have one way or the other, i think its more “could we be efficient and explosive.” Btw Miami did that last year with Tua. Tua, Goff, Purdy are all good, their teams won plenty of games because of them. They also lost games, specifically in the postseason, that were there to be won but the qb wasnt quite good enough. Maybe not Miami, they got rolled at KC. Theres many reasons team win/lose, but qb play affects winning disproportionately. If your qb has a glaring deficiency compared to his peers, i think its fair to ask 1: if you can improve that weakness, and 2: if you can’t, why? 🤷‍♂️

How do you discount the Lions for having more long runs than passes? They have those runs because of their elite O-Line and the fact that their WR are really elite blockers as well. It’s not because Goff can’t complete long passes, he ranks in the top five in that category. And why do you think opponents were always playing catch-up? Because the offense was scoring Touchdowns, not field goals, early and often. You know, like elite offenses do! You guys underated the offense because you undervalued their top five QB.

Lions have better OL, better RBs and better TEs. There is more evidence for Goff over Love. Packers have more depth at WR, but lack the star power of St Brown. @@101less I’m convinced it’s because how he looks and the team around him. If he was 6’5, no one would care about him being the last pick. Purdy has a faster 10 yard split than Mahomes and Allen. He’s sneaky quick, and can really move around. He’s also extremely accurate in this system. Goff is accurate too, but when you get into the playoffs, being mobile is more important. Fortunately for the Lions, they have the best OL so it’s not as necessary for Goff to move that much. I’m happy for Lions fans that they have a team that’s gonna be good for a long time. I’m just not sure Goff can win it all, if your backup you drafted who I really like reaches his full potential, that’s a SB winning team IMO.

Cool to see some nuanced takes on Dolphins/Tua - so many just say he sucked at the end of the season, but there are a few key factors to consider... 1) 2022 Concussions... the league forced the Dolphins to bench Tua after his second concussion. He's too high profile - they didn't care about Pickett getting two concussions and playing - but Tua doing the hand thing on primetime was bad look and even though he was able to come back and play, they just shut him down for the year. So in 2023 - he was told NEVER to run unless in the redzone. It's clear when you watch the film - he was forced to avoid contact - an 'over-adjustment' but it was understandable. I expect him to be 'back-to-normal' and add to that his 3rd year in the system - he should be back in MVP considerations late in the year as he was in 2022. 2) The options after Tyreek/Waddle was very lacking... they were both banged up towards the end of the season and missed games. The offense with one of them out was VERY different and much more limited than it will be in 2024. Malik Washington was a key pickup as between him and Achane - the Dolphins will be able to stay more to their passing design if Hill or Waddle is out. Of course Odell is a much better 3rd option than Cedric Wilson, and Jonnu a much better option than Smythe. 3) O-Line depth - having Liam play center for the first time in his career was crazy and then that caused 3rd string guys to play more... when Hunt went down it got even worse. There is a bit more depth for 2024 and Liam of course has more experience now.

It seems like Kingsley Suamataia is this year’s Rashee Rice in that the Chiefs are banking on his play improving as the season plays out. Suamataia already has the strength that many young OTs need to improve upon early on in their careers. Most of Suamataia’s deficiencies have to do with technique which can be correctible relatively quickly with good player development the Chiefs have shown to have. I think it will work out like it did with Rice last season and the Chiefs will be clicking on all cylinders offensively by Thanksgiving to go along with a top defense and will be a really scary team come playoff time. If they stay healthy like they have been able to the last couple seasons they have a great chance at 3-PEATING.

I think a lot of the “concern” (for lack of a better word) at this point is just that he hasn’t taken a lot of true pass sets (which is certainly not his fault, it’s just that BYU’s offense was so heavily rooted in RPOs). But a key difference between he and Rice’s situation is that obviously WRs substitute and O-linemen don’t. Therefore, on any given snap, the growing pains in Kingsley’s game are more likely to put the offense in a bad spot more so than a bad rep from a WR. But of the Andy’s are cool with it, I’m cool with it

Ravens offensive line has a chance to be way better than last years. And that was a decently effective group. But Moses and Stanley were injured quite a bit and were ineffective at times. Even Zeitler, a tough stalwart for years, got hurt. And they still came out as the sixth ranked offense in the NFL with below average pass protection from the tackles. The backups gave the starters long breathers during games and helped keep the starters fresher. This year in minicamp, Stanley was a full participant without any injury breaks. He looked the best he's looked in years. Voorhees looks like the real deal and the Rosegarten kid is a smooth mover. He's quicker laterally than Moses. Lets see if he's strong enough to handle NFL D-ends. If he is, then this line will be better than last years.

O Line. Lions have a better O Line than every team on this list. Their line gives Goff all sorts of time and they will have two runners rushing over 1000 yards this year. LaPorta and Jamo will be even better this year. This team will have a top offense in the NFL this year, bank on it. And it doesn’t matter whether the explosive plays in the pass game or the running game as long as it happens period. Jordan Love will regress as his first half last year will rear itself again as he gets figured out.

I forget who it was that said there is no sophomore slump, teams simply have tape on you and they figure out how to counter your play. That’s Love’s problem this year. And I’ll tell you a little secret. They have tape on Goff and Ben too, but they have so much variation in the offense they colaberated on, that every time the D thinks they have the Lions figured out, they run a a play with a new twist. Sewell’s third down catch. Brock Wright’s TD catch. Ragnow’s two point conversion, and yes he did report. The list goes on and on

I would argue that Tua led the league in passing and running over all.. they just got Jonnu Smith and OBJ.. Drafted Malik Washington and Jaylen Wright. I think what you will find is that the best offense against bad teams by a mile, finally has the under route. Btw Tua barely ever checked down. They switched to failed bubble screens when the defense took the vertical, which is why his ypc went down. The Dolphins could not bring inside run leverage without Connor williams and Isaiah Wynn. They will target this exponentially more this season. I’d bet that the Dolphins not only have the best offense… it might be the best we have ever seen in the NFL tbh

Rams will lead the league in rushing this year. All the 'tough spots' on their schedule will be no issue. We all see what the strategy is going forward, it's no secret. They want to use that HUGE O-line and POUND people into sand, running down their throats. When the defense is tired and whipped, they'll pull out the GUN and hit Puka/Kupp/Robinson down field. I see them hitting Atwell for 'explosive' plays more this year. THIS year, is going to be really FUN to watch if you're a Rams fan.

He was good in LA but his lackadaisical attitude and posture towards being accountable and leadership was what got him on McVay's bad side. The Rams got over the hump, Stafford proved he could get it done and the Lions got a number 1 pick and a younger top 5 QB to go with their brand new rebuild. I love what's going on in Detroit. The Rams and Lions have a strange series of connections. Brad Holmes, the Lions GM was the asst GM in LA for over a decade. He saw how to do a COMPLETE and PROPER rebuild and he brought ALL of that to the Lions. It's obviously working.

I haven’t watched this year but if the Bengals are not in the top 5 I will declare this invalide. Yea we have a bit of a question mark at RB since we traded Joe Mixon but if you look at Zach Mosses numbers from last year and look at the advanced metrics Moss was dam good and our 2nd year RB out of Illinois, Chase Brown, is going to go off this year. You want to talk about speed and explosion 💥 BOOM this guy has that in spades. Chase Brown on a screen pass from Jake Browning last year ran 51 yards for a TD and he was clocked and was the 2nd fastest BALL CARRYER last season. I’m not sure who number 1 was. But it can be RBs, WR’s, CBs who get an interception and run it back Safties if they get an Interception and run it back. Whoever has the ball in their hands is the ball carrier. Could be TE’s too. Brown was the second fastest recorded all of last year. He ran a 4.43 at the Combine but he looks way faster than that. So I’m feeling good about the RB position. And this is the best offensive line that Burrow has played behind since LSU. When Joe has time to dissect the defense and has time To throw he is unbeatable. Even when he is t given time to throw he can get it done. Orlando Brown Jr is an above average OT and Trent Brown when he is in the game and healthy is an elite pass blocker and a very good run blocker. His run blocking grade last year was 80.6. And our 3 interior guys are all tough as nails and I love them. PFF says we have the 8th best Center in the league and I agree.

7th for the Bengals is cray cray. They need to be at least in the top 5. And do you guys even watch college football?? Because Jermaine Burton isn’t a ‘slot receiver’. Can he play WR from the slot? Sure most WRs can do that but at Georgia and Alabama where Burton played ball at he was primarily an outside receiver. Like 80% of his snaps in 4 years of college were from the outside WR formation. Chase is also going to play more in the slot this year. Look for a large uptick of slot snaps for Chase this year. Mike Gesicki will be playing slot WR primarily this year. Yes I said slot receiver because that’s what he is. I know he is classified as a TE but he can’t block very well but he is huge and fast. He is 6’6’’ 250 lbs runs a 4.54 and has a 41 inch vertical leap. The Bengals have their blocking TE his name is Drew Sample and he is one of the best blockers in the buisness. And we got Erick All out of Iowa who is going to be good and we got Tanner McGlocklin out of Arizona where he broke ALL of Rob Gronkowskis records for a TE. And we got Tanner Hudson who is a sneaky good pass catching TE who can block as well.
