Wow what a nice looking truck on the inside and out! Its so organized and functional. You would never expect that just from looking at the outside. I never realized that a work truck could actually look nice and functional. This guy really takes pride in his service van. I have never seen anything like this out there on the road.

Nice work guys!If I was still doing service I would totally want to work out of a van set-up like this.I hated the metal shelves that are sold with these vans .Just like you said you loose parts stuff gets damaged and you end up spending 4 hours in a week trying to re-organize your van only to do the same thing week after week.Working long hours in service who wants to deal with the mess caused simply by stuff falling out of place in transit.
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 8 жыл бұрын
+Yeswecan Findaway Thank you!!! Oh my god....the metal shelves were a total waste of space and a absolute disaster. Everything kept falling off the shelves...bungee cords were strung all over the place just to keep the stuff in place. Stuff was always put on the floor and things kept getting trashed up. Everybody said it could not be done but I had to prove that it could be done and it turned out to be a success. Did you see my ranshaw plumbing truck 2015? That truck was written up in two plumbing magazines I just finished a brand new 2016 sprinter oil and gas service truck that blows this truck away. I made a lot of modifications so look for it on you tube very soon. Thank you for leaving a comment. Custom wood shelves are the only way to go....look for our new videos in the future.

Really appreciate what you have with the availiable space in that van. But I want to be able to stand up in a service truck. It's a back breaker to walk stooped over. That's why I have stayed with the 12 foot box truck I have. It has 6 1/2 feet of heigth. You have done well with this layout.

@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 7 жыл бұрын
I wish I made a video too but these trucks were built during the weekends and after work. It took me anywhere from 160-180 hours to build each one and they were all custom designed, scribed to the contours of the walls and they were made to last. Each truck was built differently...the Fords, I used rivits to attach L brackets to attach the wood to structural elements of the van. I used premium grade plywood with glue and screws to build the cabinets. The cabinets is a integral part of the van now and it is built to last. The sprinters that I built were done totally different...I had to laminate the entire side with 1/2" plywood using rivits and then I attached the cabinets to the wood. It was a very tedious process to maximize every inch of usable space so a person can work like a gentleman. The cabinets is a integral part of the truck now and is not removable...it is staying for good but every inch is maximized. Please look at the other videos of the other trucks that I built for "Ranshaw". I was a pretty good carpenter with some decent cabinet making skills before I began doing plumbing full time so that helped a lot. Thanks for leaving a comment and good luck with your van !!!!!

Very nice ! only change i would make is the latches on the wood cabinets. make them self closing so u don't have to latch & un-latch. push button to open and slam closed. kind of like the paddle handles on a utility service truck or actually maybe u could use those. otherwise, very well done. unfortunately, i am over 6' tall & 200 lbs and a van is not for me. crawling in and out of a van is not for me. been doing this 35 years. i'd like to see what u could do with a Utility Service truck. that would be cool.
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 8 жыл бұрын
That would be great but I have not found that type of hardware yet that I can buy. I bought these latches at Home depot. With your height, you need a box truck or the high sprinter. I would love to do a box truck but unfortunately, we already have three full size box trucks that were done with metal shelves and the only way I can build a box truck is if we can get a new one but unfortunately, we don't need another one at this very moment but it may be possible with in 1 -2 years as our company grows and the need for another one arises

George, These shelves are a integral part of the truck with all the plywood, rivits, glue and screws. To this date, none of the wood shelving that I have built has not shown any defects yet but every factory installed metal shelves have fallen off the walls of our older vehicles several times.....that's why every new truck that we get, we custom build that truck with the job requirements and with the mechanic in mind. Actually, out of all the trucks that I have built, especially my plumbing truck, the shelves are a integral part of the truck because I used large head stainless steel rivits to attach the plywood to the sheet metal. Nothing has broken away yet but we had metal shelves that completely pulled off the walls of the truck. Take a look at my sprinter 3500 plumbing truck and see for your self. 25,000 miles and there no signs of any weakness in the structural integrity of the plywood interior. Please check it out.....by the way I used glue, screws and rivits.... thanks for leaving a comment!!!

Thank you Sir. That full long bar is probably still too rich for me at this point, but a couple smaller ones will certainly be a big improvement. I'm also think of rigging a 3 or 4 way switch so I can operate easily from either cargo door or the drivers seat. (For my efficiency, mine is set up so that getting up inside bodily is the exception) Keep up the great work and thanks for replying.

I can do about 5 full oil tune ups/ day. Generate 4 gallons waste oil/day with random no heats mixed in. Can this set up handle that? I also pick up & install condensers/linesets / furnaces etc. Is there enough room for that kind of transport as well? I'd love to do this but I run like a production line. I carry maybe 30 B4s, Generals, case of Spin-ons and maybe 25 strainers as well. Copuld this set up really handle my work load? If so, I'm all over it!
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 7 жыл бұрын
What type of vehicle do you drive? I am curious. This was the first oil service van that I built, basically it was an experiment to see if it can be done or not. I am not a service man, I am a plumber so my needs are different from our oil techs. Since then, I have built three more oils service vans, two sprinter 2500 and another ford E-350. I basically tried to design these trucks according to their specific needs...these guys don't do any HVAC work, just primarily oil and gas service. We try not to overstock anything because real estate is very valuable on the truck but we try to have the right amount of stuff to make sure they can handle anything based on their work load. Work like a gentleman I say!!!! Please take a look of the other trucks that we have on You Tube. Thanks for leaving a comment!!!
@burnerjack01
@burnerjack01 7 жыл бұрын
Hing Lai I drive a Ford 250 right now. It sounds like I overstock but I work pretty independent and don't get back to home base but every 3 days or so. Don't get me wrong, I am in awe of this vehicle! But i work pretty fast. I keep my tool bag, filters, strainers and nozzles as well as soot vac, brushes and drill, driver all within reach from the back doors. No time to move in and out! Maybe when I "retire" and just do 2-3 jobs a day at my own pace I'd have something like this. If I "worked like a gentleman" I wouldn't get home before 8:pm. Too old for that!

@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 7 жыл бұрын
John, thanks for the wonderful comment. I do this because of my passion for the company that I work for, especially for guys like Rick and Richie. Each truck is custom designed with the service guy or plumber in mind based on their needs. I wouldn't do it for anyone else because it takes anywhere from 160 -180 hours to build. I normally build one truck a year but last year, I built three trucks during the summer because of necessity...two old Ford E350's broke down and we decided to upgrade to sprinter 2500's. Since I was on a roll, I decided to do one more truck before the end of the summer so that was a total of three trucks. Mind you, I do plumbing full time for Ranshaw so all of these trucks were built during the weekends and after hours after work. It takes a lot of time and dedication and I wouldn't dream of building anything for anybody else. Good luck with your business and try not to work too hard!!! Thanks for watching the videos!!!

Unfortunately, a lot of contractors don't believe in spending good money on a properly designed custom built truck. Some people think that milk crates and 2 x 4's will suffice...Thanks for leaving a comment ...have you seen my plumbing truck on you tube too? Search up Ranshaw plumbing truck 2015

Awesome looking build out. Only issues I have are as follows: 1. You can't buy this if you want to utilize it on your own fleet. 2. It's probably very heavy and kills any fuel economy. Not fleet friendly. 3. You put it in a POS Ford van...lol. GM - Better ride and does not eat tires! ( I have 30yrs of field service exp. and have driven every brand. Fords are by far the worst) 4. You should seal off the cab from the rear since you are carrying fuel cans, because no matter how well you maintain them they will have spillage residue on them and who wants to smell that crap all day driving around? Plus I hope you have a roof vent on that rolling bomb! 5.God help the driver and helper if they get in a wreck because that 1/2 plywood will probably not save them. But hey it is organized and pretty. Show it to us after a few years worth of service. (which would be now...lol)

Thank you for leaving such a long comment...I will do my best to address your concerns 1. Each of these trucks were custom designed for each mechanic in mind so out of the seven trucks that I have built, they have similarities but each one is slightly different from each others. I hope you saw my other videos. 2. All of our truck are either Ford E-350's, or sprinter 2500, 3500. believe it or not, the trucks still have pep in them with it fully loaded. 3. We drive sprinters now so the fuel economy are better than the ford. I never drove a Chevy so I really don't know much about them 4. All the fuel cans are new and the pan that hold them are sealed to prevent any leakage. They are strapped to the wall so they don't slosh around....believe it or not, there is little odor in these trucks. The only smell you get is from the dirty rags and the junk in the garbage pails 5. The bulkhead is 3/4 plywood from floor to ceiling and it is bolted to the floor and rivited into the frame of the truck. The lower cabinet is attached to the floor and glued to the bulk head....trust me, it's a lot stronger than the flimsy metal partitions 6. I built these trucks a few years ago...if your are in the neighborhood of Whitestone, New York.....I urge you to stop by and take a look for yourself and see how well they fared after all these years. Thanks for watching the videos

They are stored in specialized compartments that are grouped together for easy access. There is a method to this madness of inventory control. Did you see my sprinter plumbing truck? That is on you tube too.

Jon, the fuel that is carried inside the cans are actually #2 heating oil...it is very common for our oil customers to run dry by accident in the winter time and the fuel is used to tie them over until the next day when we can set up a fuel oil delivery. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment, I hope you saw all of our other videos.

Sorry, each truck was custom designed to the vehicle and the service man in particular. My plumbing truck which is a sprinter 3500 is designed totally different since I have to carry a lot of heavy stuff to handle all my plumbing needs. Each truck id different.

@MrTellyflubby

Each mechanic has a tool bag that they keep on the floor...the newer trucks that were larger, taller and longer had room in the draws and cubbies for tools. This truck was a experiment to prove that it could be done for our oil service department and it was so successful that I built three more trucks for our oil techs.
