Such a fantastic build... I've watched, liked, & saved every one of your van tours. I'm designing my layout to build shelves in my a small work van like this, and while I have gotten some good ideas from Adam Savage's "first order of retrievability" and a few from Ron Paulk's trailers, I'd say Hing Lai's vans have had the greatest impact on my thought processes. My first priority is (as much as possible) not getting inside. (My back and knees are happier when I don't.) I have so many ideas from Hing I would like to put in my van that I'm thinking I'll need to build out at least 5 of to really get it how I want it... but I only need one... so hopefully I'll be happy with my first gen. 😂🤣🤣 Not sure how businesses are doing up there in today's climate, but was thinking if y'all need to get lean, then consider offering a B2B service where other companies hire Hing to build out work vans for them. (As long as you're breaking even, the free experience will help him build better vans for you in the future.)

True, I designed these vans so that the mechanic has to climb inside as least as possible to save wear and tear on your body. Each van is custom tailored to the needs of the mechanic to make sure that they are always well stocked and have a complete inventory at their finger tips. Work smarter, not harder and just knowing that you have everything you need gives you complete confidence to tackle any job. I hope I inspired other people to aspire to be the best craftsman that they can be....thank you so much for writing such a nice comment. This was my seventh van that I built practice makes perfect so I hope that your van comes out perfect on the first try...good luck!

Wow! Another beautiful Hing creation! These beautifully designed trucks must really boost employee morale and be a treasure to work in/with. Keep it up! Can't wait to see your future creations.

Having a customized handcrafted truck made in America is always a source of pride for any mechanic, fast, efficient, and not having to go to the supply house saves so much time and increases our productivity. Unfortunately, we have been so, so busy that there is not even enough time during the day to handle all of our customers let alone time to hand craft a new truck interior . In fact, the last new truck we acquired, I was too busy and we were forced to get a outside van outfitting company and the final finished product was very disappointing with a lot of wasted space with great difficulty in keeping the truck well stocked and maintained. The wood custom fitted shelves are are just so superior. The sad thing is that I may not have enough time in the future to build any trucks due to the substantial increase of volume of new customers since we increased our internet presence. Thank you for your kind comments!!!

@@MrTellyflubby you are the most talented person I know. It's too bad that the other company didn't do a good job, but I never would imagine anyone would do a better job than you.

You’re van system is very impressive and encouraging. Question did you use 1/2” or 3/4” ply on the back of the shelves/cabinets? What’s you method for each compartment? Meaning did you use pocket hole and screw method for fasting? also where do you get the spring loaded latches? And lastly if you had to take a guess loaded with shelves and materials how much MPG do you loose approximately? O’ by the way I love your bulkhead idea being made of plywood. Thank you for your knowledge and ideas. Stay safe you guys seem top notch.

I laminated 1/2" plywood to the entire walls of the truck with rivits attached to all structural members which makes it really strong and all the interior cabinets were attached with glue, screws and brad nails. The shelves are rock solid and they will outlast the truck itself. Spring loaded latches were purchased from home depot and they never unlatch by themselves no matter how bumpy the road its and nothing has ever fallen off the shelves. I never really measured the MPG decrease on the truck but we save on fuel by never having to go to the supply house to purchase parts or materials

Have you ever shared your plans? I am on the west coast Portland Oregon with a new to me low roof Sprinter and wanting to copy what you have done here. I love what you have done with this van.

Good luck on your new van!! Each van is custom designed to meet the individual needs of the mechanic so each truck is slightly different from each others. I have built a total of seven trucks and they all have some similarities and yet they are all different. Thank you for watching....I hope you saw my other videos

I bet you that all those books are now available on PDF files and the rare ones that are not can be scanned and made into PDF's. Get your servicemen on on some sort of tablet (ipad or android) and upload all the books on to their tablets. The tablets will eliminate the need for that cubby space full of books. The tablet can also be used for invoicing and other business tasks.

Also the time you win not having to look for something. You easily win 20 minutes per day compared to a cluttered van.

It makes it so easy to find stuff....many of our services appreciate the cleanliness of the truck and it has boosted their standards and morale. I hope to build a full sized box truck in the future. Thanks for leaving a comment

Nice van. Are you guys worried about carrying so much fuel and oil in the back like that or is that standard in your area?
@MrTellyflubby

that's number 2 fuel oil for when customers run out of oil in the middle of the night so we can get them running until the next morning when we can arrange a fuel delivery....actually , they carry eight cans totaling 40 gallons of fuel oil. Thanks for watching!!!

Great job,do you really need to carry both expansion tanks,just carry the 30 to get the system up and going ,then return with the correct tank and go over the system in more depth

Dennis, we believe in doing it right the first time.....labor is more expensive than the parts so if we have to make a repair, we want to make sure that we don't have any call backs. Time is money so we have to make sure we are fully stocked for all emergencies. Did you get a chance to look at our other videos of our trucks? Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment...we really appreciate it!!!

Very nice craftsmanship! Do you know approximately how much cost you have in materials for this build?
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 8 жыл бұрын
About $2,300...the plywood was about 8 sheets of 3/4" plywood and 4 sheets of 1/2" plywood. The costliest items were the metal storage cabinets and the triple pull out tray for the parts. Did you see my other two videos?
@TopCityGear

Nice job on truck. However before I had my men carry more than 10 gallons of fuel I'ed replace my delivery manager if we had that many run outs.

The issue is that some customers do not want automated deliveries so they take it upon themselves to call us when they feel they need more. It is usually not needed but we have to prepare for the worst case scenario. Thanks for leaving a comment....you should check out our plumbing trucks.

Just curious what's all the fuel for? Beautiful trucks btw!
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks!!! Hope you saw all of our videos. The 40 gallons of fuel are carried on the trucks just in case our oil customers run out of #2 fuel oil for their heating/hot water systems. This happens quite often during the wintertime so the service guys can get the oil boiler running through the night until a oil delivery can be arranged for the next day.

Hing Lai ok makes sense. Do you have to carry an oil burner license? In mass we do, I do plumbing heating and gas, would love to start learning oil.
@MrTellyflubby
@MrTellyflubby 8 жыл бұрын
Mike, my boss has the license.....all of our oil techs and plumbers do work under his license. He has quite a few under his belt but in NYC, the oil business is shrinking and the gas is expanding so we try to get a good market share of oil to gas conversions. Working with gas can get really tricky though because of all the strict requirements in NYC. Good luck on learning oil though.
