Such a fantastic build... I've watched, liked, & saved every one of your van tours. I'm designing my layout to build shelves in my a small work van like this, and while I have gotten some good ideas from Adam Savage's "first order of retrievability" and a few from Ron Paulk's trailers, I'd say Hing Lai's vans have had the greatest impact on my thought processes. My first priority is (as much as possible) not getting inside. (My back and knees are happier when I don't.) I have so many ideas from Hing I would like to put in my van that I'm thinking I'll need to build out at least 5 of to really get it how I want it... but I only need one... so hopefully I'll be happy with my first gen. 😂🤣🤣 Not sure how businesses are doing up there in today's climate, but was thinking if y'all need to get lean, then consider offering a B2B service where other companies hire Hing to build out work vans for them. (As long as you're breaking even, the free experience will help him build better vans for you in the future.)

True, I designed these vans so that the mechanic has to climb inside as least as possible to save wear and tear on your body. Each van is custom tailored to the needs of the mechanic to make sure that they are always well stocked and have a complete inventory at their finger tips. Work smarter, not harder and just knowing that you have everything you need gives you complete confidence to tackle any job. I hope I inspired other people to aspire to be the best craftsman that they can be....thank you so much for writing such a nice comment. This was my seventh van that I built practice makes perfect so I hope that your van comes out perfect on the first try...good luck!

You’re van system is very impressive and encouraging. Question did you use 1/2” or 3/4” ply on the back of the shelves/cabinets? What’s you method for each compartment? Meaning did you use pocket hole and screw method for fasting? also where do you get the spring loaded latches? And lastly if you had to take a guess loaded with shelves and materials how much MPG do you loose approximately? O’ by the way I love your bulkhead idea being made of plywood. Thank you for your knowledge and ideas. Stay safe you guys seem top notch.

I laminated 1/2" plywood to the entire walls of the truck with rivits attached to all structural members which makes it really strong and all the interior cabinets were attached with glue, screws and brad nails. The shelves are rock solid and they will outlast the truck itself. Spring loaded latches were purchased from home depot and they never unlatch by themselves no matter how bumpy the road its and nothing has ever fallen off the shelves. I never really measured the MPG decrease on the truck but we save on fuel by never having to go to the supply house to purchase parts or materials

Impressive, however I'd put in a 40 or 50 gal fuel tank with transfer pump and ditch all those Jerry cans.

The plywood is not what weighs the most, it is the materials, tools and stock that makes this truck very heavy. You would be amazed on how much stuff I have on this truck...since it is very orderly, it is very deceiving on how much it weighs

I am a carpenter and I am incredibly impressed with how thoughtful your design and build out is. Not easy but it would be excellent to see a " build out" video with you guys and the variables you consider for the different plumbers, techs Etc on your team when you outfit a new vehicle. I would assume there is a lot of wood shop time fabricating all your parts and coating with poly- this is my kind of t.v! Keep up the great work, -great use of the 50 cal ammo boxes too

Thank you for viewing the video and for leaving a comment. This entire truck was built out in the open with a table saw, jig saw, sander, router and a radial arm saw. The design comes from experience from building so many vans ( 11 in all) so I actually make up the design as I go along. The ammo cans are indestructible and it is a source of pride for me. It really maximizes storage space because the length is only 11 inches in length. If I build another van, I will consider doing a time lapse video but the next truck may be a Ford transit. I was able to build this truck because of my cabinet making skills that I learned working part time during my college years and to design this plumbing truck, you have to be off course , a plumber ......so in essence, it takes various specific skills to be able to design and build something like this. Thank you very much for watching this video.

I designed it and built it myself.....a carpenter or cabinet maker cannot build something like this....you need to be a plumber too in order to build something like this. I worked as a part time cabinet maker during my last two years in college. That knowledge enabled me to accomplish something like this. Thank you for leaving a comment

I built it myself....I worked in a cabinet shop for two years part time to help put my way through college....the design ideas come from me doing plumbing for at least 28 years....both combinations enabled me to design and build this truck totally by myself.
