Long overdue Part 2 of when I reacted to Fake Martial Arts. Big shoutout to all the people providing me with clips. Some of those fake Kung Fu Clips are quite obscure and unknown. Always cool to be able to bring something unique. Thats the way of the Real Shaolin Disciple

Some fall for the mystical promise of Aikido's founder, i.e., that it's a mean of acquiring the same claimed chi powers he had. My sensei at least believed in this, as other teacher I knew. I also got into Aikido due to some good friends when I was a teenager, but soon realized it all.

You make some great points. I’m a Japanese Jujutsu and Judo instructor and I’m often asked what the best style is in my opinion. My response is always the same. It depends on what you are training for. For me, I train and teach Japanese Jujutsu, Judo and BJJ so those are best for me. I also add (because many will complain about certain styles not being good) that every martial art style is good for what it was intended for but not every martial art style is truly a self defense style or a one size fits all. I’m sure many people have different interpretations of what makes something a self defense style as do I.

@@OfficialVirilamis thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work. I have been training since 76 (except 8 years off after being injured on 9/11) and I’m still learning. BJJ is difficult at my age and with my injuries but I do what I can. I have been asked by several wing chun instructors I know to train in it but it’s not for me. I don’t have anything against it of course.

@@Tr1s that's the point. A mediocre MMA fighter can sweep just about any kungfu "master" because MMA is built on scrutinizing every possible technique, something kungu has failed to do. And yeah, he's not huge on grappling. He said so himself. He has a background in Sanda and Muay Thai, and a little bit of Shuaijiao and BJJ for grappling, things he picked up after losing a fight.

Its training for body positioning is also useful for other arts (it helped me with Muay Thai footwork, believe it or not).

I appreciate what he said about older people in the park exercising and how much we need that in the US. I went to a park near the campus of Shanghai East Normal University when I studied there in 1989. I did my Tai Chi and would draw a crowd of uncles to make sure I was doing it right. Park exercise for old people isn’t a part of our culture, but it’s too bad. They would live a lot longer and be healthier. Great video as usual.

I agree with the aikido thing. I did aikido for a couple of years and i can fully say that aikido is specifically for defusing a physical conflict WITHOUT harming yourself AND your opponent. It doesn’t teach you any offense. Just evasive defense.

I trained aikido for a few years when I was a kid because a family member of mine was starting a class for kids in a local dojo. The owner of that dojo would always tell me and the other kids that we should't use aikido in self defense because it wasn't very efficient, the stuff they would teach us there was more focused in learning to control you body and your breathing. Also, there are some techniques in Aikido that actually work in self defense, and from personal experience, they can hurt a lot, but they are less flashy and usually involve imobilizations, so they never appear in those funny compilations. Another thing that really doesn't help aikido's image, is that for some reason, the guys using the techniques in those demonstrations always looked super bored and like they didn't want to be there, which makes he stuff even more hillarious
@damiresq
@damiresq Жыл бұрын
I agree. I went to aikido lessons when I was 20. (20 years ago) The instructor was very good and aware as well. I realized its not eficient at all for fighting so I enjoyed practicing the stuff I founded useful like falling witch was very important for me in the winters while walking on ice :)) Only once happened to me one day random dude grabbed me by the wrist he wanted to snatch the phone out of my pocket and i had no problem avoiding that and getting out of the grip. Aikido used to be good for little kids, learning about respect, falling and getting up after that is also a good psychological exercise and other things. The guys using the techniques in demonstrations they look bored because they avoid getting tired because they are out of shape and fat :)) They proclaim a self imaginary status of self respect thus not being in need to move to much because they are to powerful when instead they are only out of shape and old :)) Many times this delusion gets out of control and so u get the supernatural masters teaching telekinetic nonsense :)) I laughed so much at that aikido slap at the end omg :)))

The Kung Fu dojo I went to taught Northern Shaolin, and Brazilian Jujitsu. And wushu for kids. Best 10 years of martial arts I had. Sparring was in both kid and adult class, and full meditation seminars on Thursdays. And Saturday morning classes were brutal. Good times I miss it greatly. My Sifu was very spiritual and is a Buddhist trained at the Shaolin temple before moving on to other training. He had always said something important he wanted to train people like how people fight not animal styles and always was realistic about on the streets saying the best defense was don’t be there. Solid advice

I remember hearing of a (supposed) Wing Chun club where the instructor's idea of proving yourself was to go out and pick a fight with someone (on the street). Nothing like the club I wound up joining - the club I joined you had to be interviewed by the Sifu before you could join. If he thought you were there for picking fights, you were politely told that this club wasn't for them and that they should go study somewhere else. I was fortunate enough to be allowed in. I thought it was one of the best experiences in my life. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture and was thrilled to have the opportunity to go, with other students, with our Sifu to meet our Si Gung. I'll never forget it.

He trained in aiki-jiujitsu too so would often teach us the old versions of the techniques with all the strikes kept in. I'm really bored of people ignorant of "martial arts" when and where was the idea that its was self defense begin? First off most fighting forms were to combat non fighters. For God's sake even in manuals it was admitted. Smh

I trained in and received my black belt in Aikido (in Japan specifically). But I absolutely agree that Aikido alone would get you killed in a real fight. In my opinion it's a good way to add or refine certain parts of your fighting technique, but you still need a better base from MMA or kickboxing to actually be effective in defending yourself.

Always when I watch your videos I think how much is nice to be somehow closer to Shaolin Kung Fu and how much sometimes I wonder about it. When I was younger I trained Jeet Kune Do and one day we had a visit of a master in Chin-Na, we learned a lot of practice but because was just one class unfortunately a lot of history was left out (or if it wasn't I maybe didn't pay attention or I don't remember 🤔). It was a plot twist to me to see actual people from Shaolin training Chin-Na, I didn't know the connection and it made me so happy! Somehow I felt even closer (even if so distant). Thank you for that!

Hey bro great stuff, you’ve really hit a home run with the idea to take what works from different systems and at it too things like kickboxing, judo, and ,bjj. I have been training for 30 years in the martial arts myself, started when i was 12, I was lucky to meet a instructor that was very open, and practical. He showed me that there is a place for traditional martial arts there really is, more for conditioning and strengthening and developing power, when I started to train in kickboxing and BJJ it was very natural or somewhat lol. It saddens me to know that the Shaolin have changed and moved away from practical self defense, But as you said very good conditioning and beautiful forms must build killer cardio

One thing about screaming that people probably have already mentioned is that it also has a practical effect, as screaming causes your torso muscles to contract (to expel huge amounts of air to produce the scream), adding more explosive force to your attacking motion, or defense. That's also why you can hear combat athletes exhale when punching, achieving a similar result, but on a smaller scale (since obviously screaming all the time will cause you to hyperventilate)
