As a kid growing up in Vancouver, I was lucky enough to take *this* Royal Hudson (#2860) on an excursion train trip from North Vancouver up to Squamish for my birthday. An incredible locomotive and a great piece of our railroading history. Rapido did a phenomenal job with this model. I wish they made it in N scale. Really brought a smile to my face to hear the bell and whistle again. I actually had an audio cassette tape of the Royal Hudson that was a recording of an excursion run from the cab and that whistle echoing off the canyon walls was haunting. Thanks for the video review!

Looks absolutely stunning, definitely worth it. Fully synced sound too, 00 manufacturers need to take notice

They do! The only thing I can think of that ever came close to this was the Dapol A4 and that had running problems. The US has quite a few locos of this quality available. They are all made in China, so I can't understand why British manufacturers don't import models like this to UK.

#2860 is the one that is preserved in the British Columbia Rail Museum. I saw it in 2017 and it is really missive. Nice model, hope they come out with one in N scale. Thanks for the review. Hans...

Hey Matt, an outstanding review of the Rapido Trains Royal Hudson Steam Locomotive. The detail, the lights and the wonderful sounds, love the bell, whistles and the running performance is very flawless. Blimey, £530.00 plus the import, that's very, very expensive, but I believe it was worth it. Just to let you know on the information about 2860, she was last steamed in 2010 and is on display at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. Once again, a wonderful review, now you have a Canadian Locomotive on your layout, I think you should get some Canadian Coaches to run it with one day, but for now, 2860 will be running with American Union Pacific Coaches. I cannot wait to see more videos of 2860 running around Jubilee Road in future. Well done Matt. 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 10/10 😉

My favourite model. Well done Rapido Trains!

The reason for that corridor between the locomotive and the tender is because the CP frequently used an all-weather cab on their steamers. The back of the cab is closed, save for the opening for the walkway between the loco and tender. This is because it gets REALLY cold up in Canada. When these locomotives were initially built, they were coal-fired. But it appears that 2860 has been converted to oil.

Nice video, that's one heck of a locomotive. One heck of a price too, but then any US outline locomotives that are really amazing come with an amazing price tag................They are worth while though. If you ever want to buy another US steam loco, look at a company called Broadway Limited Imports, their's are amazing too. No connection to me, but my wife bought one in May this year for my birthday and it just sounds stunning.

Oh Matt, jealous is not the word. I was watching Rapido's own videos just this morning. I saw the British Columbia one (real thing) in May at Squamish. Waiting now for Mr Schonn to produce one in N.

Brilliant loco Matt, but rather a tad expensive for most people to splash out. I'll stick with buying cheaper Hornby/Bachmann locos. By the way, your layout is coming on nicely. Regards Geoff

Great review just to let you know 2860 has two whistles, the one you pick was used as well as the default whistle. If you look at some videos of it running you will hear both and sometimes at the same time. Rapido like to put Easter eggs in the decoders and wondered if you have tried function 17, sound has to be on.

It is a stunner, for sure, and I am not even a big steam era fan. :D The price for what one gets is very similar to the high quality German steam locos from Märklin, Brawa, and Roco which can run the equivalent of 600-900 Pounds.

Hi Matt, that is a very impressive model that looks to justify it's cost. I hope it lasts better than your previous most expensive steam engine model, the Dapol - A4 Mallard. 🤞🏻.

Matthew the Rapido Trains Royal Hudson Review was the best that I ever saw on the layout and I to will give a 11 out of 10 for it's performance. It took on the curves and points so well for the size of the loco & tender tho I don't think if a loco like that could run on the uk network because of it's size. You did say there was a coal fire function tho it runs on oil I believe. So over all a good video as there was a wobble before you went to tell us it was on the track. James Joseph JJ Dyer

Matt, some of the Royal Hudson's were powered with coal, so it is suitable for some variations

Fantastic locomotive, looks great on your layout. What are you going to put behind this loco ? Cheers Greg
@trainman070115 жыл бұрын
It's an excursion loco, so he can actually get away with a lot of mixed North American passenger cars.
@greghale99725 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew for your comment......Greg
@LeslieGilpinRailways5 жыл бұрын
If you see the passenger cars that were used on the North Vancouver to Squamish excursions back in the day, currently at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park (with the loco), you could easily put together a scratch set of 1950s smooth sided cars and paint them CPR Tuscan red. They are pretty generic unless you wanted to kit build the specific cars. That's what we did for our scratch 1960s Canadian Pacific passenger train.

Nice, Matt but why traction tyres? I like the attention to detail, which we do not get over here. The sound is 'mindblowing'. I cannot fault it except the price. WoW, I need another mortgage.
@oneastrails2 жыл бұрын
You saw him take out the non traction driver out of the box. Not a hard thing to swap out if you really don’t like traction tires.

Is it just me or did foreign steam always look more easy access , easy maintenance engines , what i am trying to say not a patch in looks to what the big 4 produced in this country. Model looks and sounds great but not seen many foreign engines that actually look good, some on here may disagree but you cant beat a duchess or an A4

LOL, £540!
@Railway.Enthusiast.19895 жыл бұрын
i wouldn't even dare buy a locomotive a £540 or 30, that is just silly money tbh.
