When was the last time you saw a crowd so varied? From the oldest to youngest. That's the power Black Sabbath has. 50 years later, they are still bringing new fans. Ozzy said it "As long as there's still people with hidden rage and feel unappreciated, heavy metal will exist "

I was thinking the same thing, but I added punk rock to it too back in the 70’s. You were one or the other but still sick of all the same shit. It seems like kids today don’t have that f u attitude that made us love these bands. Either that or they do but are to lazy to stop playing video games to do anything about it. Lol. I say this having two in their twenties. Another problem is while I was paying $15 a concert they now have to pay $80-100. I thank god I didn’t grow up in this generation. God knows what I would’ve been like without live music as an outlet.

Good reaction, dudes! This is actually from their second album, Paranoid from late 1970. The first album is self-titled, from early 1970. If you want to hear the real birth of heavy metal, you need to do the song Black Sabbath from the album Black Sabbath. It's the opening tritone intervals of the guitar in that song that codified the sonic aesthetic of heavy metal to come. I'd love to see you guys react to Kamelot - Elizabeth (the live version from the One Cold Winter's Night concert recordings), but I know I am probably going to be the only requesting this. 🙂

Sabbath, especially in the beginning, never considered themselves a heavy metal band. They were dubbed as heavy metal, and the first band to be called that, but starting out, they considered themselves closer to a blues rock band. Aside from the song heavily played on the radio, most of their first album was closer to their blues roots than their metal future.

I've been a Sabbath fan since their first album came out. Yep, I'm friggin' old. A lot of people don't realize that a lot of their lyrics were about love and peace, not anything dark. Go look up the lyrics to "After Forever". But the riffs Tony Iommi came up with, he wanted them to sound like something from a horror movie. Remember that they hit the scene during the Vietnam War and the threat of nuclear destruction. The War Pigs were the ones responsible for the war. Also, if you look at the guitarist Tony Iommi's fingers, they have plastic tips. He was working at a sheet metal plant and quit to pursue starting the band. On his last day, he cut his fingertips off in the sheet cutter. So he's played his entire career with plastic fingertips he makes himself.

This will be a long comment, prepare yourself. For context, the album this song is from turns 50 years old in September of this year. It was Sabbaths second album. The members are Ozzy Osbourne, Tony iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill ward. These guys are widely regarded as the first metal band and have influenced every metal/hard rock band that came after them either directly or indirectly. They basically set the stage for the metal genre as a whole, creating many different sounds that would later result in a lot of metal sub-genres. Ozzy Osbourne is not a superb technical singer, but his voice is so unique and haunting that it fits the music perfectly. Tony iommi is the guitarist and he had the tips of two of his fingers chopped off his fretting hand in an industrial accident before they even had a record deal. Tony is widely regarded as the riff master and if you ever hear a similar riff, Tony did it first. Geezer butler is the bassist and he has said that he would let tony do his thing, and then he would simply follow along and do his own thing. He doesn’t just play a simple rhythmic bass line to keep tempo, he adds to the song with his own little riffs and semi-solos. And bill ward is the drummer and a lot of the staple drum beats you hear in metal were developed by him. Their first six albums are absolutely astonishing and they were released between 1970 and 1975. The album this song is on is called Paranoid. If you decide to continue listening to sabbath, I highly recommend finishing the album. The songs are as follows: War Pigs, Paranoid, Planet Caravan, Iron Man, Electric Funeral, Hand of Doom, Rat Salad and Fairies Wear Boots. The other albums worth listening to are: Black Sabbath (self titled), Master of Reality, Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage. The four original members are all 70+ years old now and the show you guys watched was from their final tour that ended in February 2017. Three of the original members were in the tour. The drummer, bill ward, being the only one that didn’t join.

Greatest band of all time. Nobody plays bass like Geezer, drums like Bill, guitar like Tony, or sings like Ozzy. Not to mention his lyrics. And I love how their songs always change. Sometimes a few times. And there's no other Sabbath other than Ozzy's Sabbath to me. Been listening to them since I was 4 with my dad (I'm 26) so I'm a little biased :) No way I could ever pick my top 5 but I LOVE (in no particular order) Electric Funeral, A National Acrobat, Warning, Into the Void, Wicked World and many more lol.

Several bands are credited by most folks with starting the foundations for heavy metal. Black sabbath was the MOST influential but Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple were also influential. I forget who said it, maybe Frank Zappa...but the saying is there is no metal riff in existence that Toni Iomi (Black sabbath's Guitarist) didn't already put in a song back in the day with Black sabbath. EVERY song had so many different riffs as you will soon see.

Mötley Crüe did a cover of Helter Skelter (Best version of the song) Ozzy Osbourne - "I got rabies shots for biting the head off a bat but that's OK - the bat had to get Ozzy shots." Also yes Black Sabbath was the first Heavy Metal band in my opinion. Some say it was Led Zeppelin, but they were a rock band doing covers of blues songs so you tell me if that's "Metal". Also Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Motorhead were the one's that really made the genre stick and gain notoriety. If you ever get around to it, you should do some Priest and Maiden. (Would say do Motorhead, but they are a more niche style) Bye.🙂

Led zeppelin weren't doing covers of blues songs sure they look a lot of influence from the blues but the only cover I can think of is when the levee breaks.

@@mcjagergaming A lot of them are inspired and small parts are similar but I wouldn't say any are direct rip offs. They are vastly different. The Stair way to heaven riff is a load of rubbish and they won the lawsuit and there are many songs that have a similar riffs.

Ozzy is still recording. He and Tommy Iommi are in peace now. He has his solo work but now colabs with Black Sabbath too. Unfortunately, Ozzy had health affected much by an accident while riding a quadricicle some years ago. Ozzy had multiple fractures and stayed in coma for days. He recovered well, but mobility got compromised, that's why Ozzy doesn't run on the stage anymore and holding on the mic stand for support. If there's a devilissh being in this band is the guitarist Tommy Iommi: his solos are unbelievable!

this was off their second album "Paranoid". The original title of the album was supposed to be War Pigs which if you see the cover of that album the artwork still reflects that. The name War Pigs is actually a play on the "Walpurgisnacht" which is when the witches would meet. I believe Wiccans still practice that night

The reason the crowd is particularly vivacious is because this is was shot on The End tour. Black Sabbath's FINAL tour. Everyone in that crowd knows this is the final time they will see them. I saw The End when it stopped in Noblesville, Indiana, myself. Our crowd, myself included, were going ape shit, from old-timers that saw them live in the 70's to me who only got to see them live once, at the end...

I don't know if you guys noticed but Tommi Iommi had 2 of his finger tips removed in a steel press before they made their 1st record. He made prosthetics for his finger tips. And he credits his sound for it.
@XA351GT
@XA351GT 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if anyone else already mentioned this or not ,but Tony Iommi the guitarist lost the tips of his fingers in a work accident the last day on the job before they were to go pro. He made his own prostetic fingers tips from plastic bottle caps and strips of leather. It caused him to have drop the tuning on the guitar so the string tension wouldn't cause him pain. that created the sound of what became Heavy metal.

The only time I was able to see Ozzy was at the Municipal Coliseum in Lubbock, TX. May 1, 1996. Sepultura opened. Then Type O Negative played. The the Oz Man himself. It was the best concert I have ever been to in my life. I can still vividly see the concert in my mind today. Freakin so damn awsome. Sepultura ended really strong. Type O Negative gave one hell of a performance. But when Ozzy came out the whole place exploded.

Black Sabbath was one of a couple bands to birth the "Metal" genre. The step before them with bands like Cream were still something like 'Heavy Blues Rock'. Being that these guy are ancient the studio version is obviously better quality, but they still rock live at 105. Song is essentially an anti-war protest song blaming the power mad generals who send the poor to fight in their stead for the fun of it. Then about their reckoning on judgement day. The line "begging mercies for their sins (pause and and drum riff) Satan , laughing, spreads his wings" Is so fucking hardcore 🤘😈
@supernautacus

More than hardcore...Satan is laughing, because S/He is fully aware they WON'T receive any mercy. Because they gave none. How fitting to the Times we are now living in...sadly.
