Dave Lombardo was Slayer's drummer for a long while (he was one of the founding members of the band). One of his other projects was a band called Grip Inc. Check out "Endowment of Apathy" by them for more of Dave's insanely fast double bass drumming. For a classic hair metal song .... Hmmm. Maybe "Cherry Pie" by Warrant?

From what I recall, hair metal was the label for bands who appeared to care more about their look than the music they made. They usually had big hair, make up and elaborate stage outfits. Thrash is the opposite, more about the raw, aggressive music than a specific look although they kinda do have a specific look, that's not the focus!

I was so lucky to see Slayer twice on their final tour and hearing Raining Blood live was amazing! As for the song itself, a song about raging war against Heaven and hearing that war through the guitars at the end of the song is just brutal! I've been a Slayer fan since way back, but this song still reminds me of GTA: Vice City. Getting into the Hunter (the army helicopter) with this playing, and going on the rampage, is one of my fondest gaming memories.

I remember concerts where everything was chill, the casual pit, wod, fight - but every body was mostly rocking there head. Then Raining blood starts, on first rif the whole fucking statium became a mostpit.

This album was recorded in a matter of days. It was 46 or so minutes going in- they pumped it into 38 minutes from memory because Dave Lombardo is a beast on the kit.

Man, if you just looked at them you would write them off as people who not jam metal but these dudes are so introspective and smart about music. They definitely love music and have such good commentary and interest in all forms of music. Respect.

Slayer were labelmates on DefJam with Run DMC and the Beastie Boys...Kerry King (lead guitarist for Slayer) did the guitar solo for "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" for the Beasties and was in the video...

Testament was basically the 5th band of "the big 4." You NNEEEEDD to check them out. Alex Skolnik is probably the best guitarist over all 5 bands. Their second album "The New Order" will blow yer freaking mind. I would start with the song Disciples of the Watch. I guarendamntee you will love it.

Slayer's attitude toward hair metal stems from them being the one of the few thrash bands to come out of LA, where most of the hair bands were coming from. They were surrounded hair and punk rock. They took the punk route.

Thrash was specifically a movement that was anti-hair metal. The hair metal bands were mostly out of LA, specifically Sunset Strip, and all big four thrash bands came out of the San Francisco Bay area, they were called at the time 'Bay area thrash'.

7:05 Sounds familiar thanks to GTA Vice City! That game got me into metal back in ‘02 before KZfaq. Before that, I was a hip-hop head. I had to beg my dad to buy me Reign in Blood and the first time I heard that album it scared the $h!t out of me hahaha

Jackson was probably the first black musician on MTV, the first music video was Video Killed the Radio Star by the Buggles, ironically.

Music Videos had existed since the 1950s but under very specific conditions. Most times, they were just performance clips from shows like the Ed Sullivan Show or the Carol Burnett Show. It wasn't until the 1960s where Top Of The Pops appeared which was like the MTV of the 60s and 70s. Again, though, these were just performance clips, though sometimes they would be lip synced for the public to promote the singles or albums. The Beatles were one of the first bands to make music videos outside of those TV Shows. They made videos for a handful of songs. However, these were considered Promotional Clips, not Music Videos. The difference is that the former was, as it says, a Promotion for the song or album it's featuring. A Music Video is a video that is actually intended as a related artform and was usually released alongside with the single. The first to do this was Queen with Bohemian Rhapsody. That song and it's video started a new trend where labels were requiring their clients to provide music videos for their singles and, in 1980, with the ironic debut featuring the song Video Killed The Radio Star covered by the Buggles, MTV was born. This was the sole reason for the shift in Pop culture. All the professional adult contemporary artists were phased out because no one wanted to look at them. Instead, the put up the pretty faces of Madonna, David Lee Roth, and Michael Jackson. Metal became big because of MTV as it was a perfect opportunity to show off the exciting theatrical live stadium feel of Metal concerts. What you were thinking of Michael Jackson for was probably one of two things: He was the first African American artist to receive primary viewing time on MTV in 1983 with his videos for Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller. Before then, Black artists were given Midnight-Morning slots. He changed that and opened doors for other Black artists. The second thing is that he was the first to make a music video short film with Thriller. It was a 14-minute Horror mini-flick that featured multiple different scenes, a storyline, and only about 6-7 minutes of which was the actual song. It was the first music video that felt like a movie and he would become known for these kinds of videos all the way to his last album Invincible with the video for You Rock My World.
