First off, thank you for taking on the long version of this. Not many reactors will give a full album side track a listen. It's obvious that these guys had a lot of love and respect for Motown. Good stuff.

They definitely did great justice to this song, Rare Earth doesn't get enough credit. An interesting thought for you guys, Motown records made the rock n roll branch of the label because of these guys, so ive read numerous times

One of my top five favorite songs of all time! Headphones, black lights, attitudinal adjustment. 24 minutes gone in a flash. Thanks for sharing.
The tonal quality of the drums can really make or break the way a song sounds. Most snare drums are kind of flat IMO. I love that fast, snappy sound!

This is off of Rare Earth's debut album, and every song is a well-oiled and well-harmonized mix of Detroit soul, Rythem, and Blues. Gil Bridges' saxophone solos are always the album's highlight, along with the soulful singing. They had a way of putting just a little extra flare to the cover songs they recorded. This debut album is by far their best effort. Great commentary and input on the vocals and musicianship, guys. No one can break down a song like Airplay Beats.

Somebody knew what they were doing when they mic'ed that kit for the board, shit is gorgeous and warm and even has a bit of shimmer in that hi-hat in the central jam underneath all the guitarcrobatics - I wonder if the key is in the ambient parts of the recording - That and the tambourine are star players. Can anyone be better than the Temps doing their own song? No. But these guys made their own version--a bit of rock injected, retaining the soul and respect for the Temps' original. I loved this when I was a kid (which, BTW, you could hear on the same station back then sandwiched between Cream "Sunshine of Your Love" and Dylan "Like a Rolling Stone", for example--the golden age of FM radio!) and holds up now.
@willasacco98988 ай бұрын
It was the golden age before commercialization and over- categorization. My journey started in 1969, when my parents bought me an AM/FM radio and I listened to the “cool”stations. Of course, we never knew it was the golden age at the time.
