I live in Metro Detroit, grew up on Motown/Soul/R&B/Funk and listen to all the music from the 60s to the present day. I too have funk and groove in my soul. And I also like hard rock, some Rap, southern rock, etc. Music is my life. My two favorite quotes are “Music is my higher power” ― Oliver James “I see my life in terms of music.” ― Albert Einstein

That's one of the great things about this time period! Late 60's/early 70's: there was so much sharing of the groove and the vibe of coming from Motown and R&B that everybody, Black and White, were feeding off it and producing wonderful music! Music really is one of those special platforms of communication where we can all come together to groove, celebrate life, love each other, and experience something of what it means to be our best selves, together!!

Don't think it's racism, Vid. I hate that the word "discriminate" - which only means "tell things apart by their difference" has become a synonym for racism, because it's not. We are all interested in where people come from, their accents, their music, why they sound the way they do. Now, since I was a kid, I've just seen skin color as descriptive, maybe #6 or #7 on a list when describing someone. But to explore ethnicity, where someone grew up, culture, history - all that stuff is fun and positive and very human. We can discriminate - tell on aspect from another - without being racist. Would love to hear other people's opinion on this!

@Laquasha Green I think all of us have some of those racist relatives regardless of ethnicity. But, from the many, multi-generational, multi-national and multi-ethnical, why can't we rise up and say "enough please"? The majority of people that I've encountered, personally and professionally, don't feel so separated by differences and even hatred. When is it going to end? Wrongs have been done on all sides. I know this sounds "Pollyanna'ish" (young folks please look it up), but all of us have to take off our glasses of whatever shade and just do "the right thing." We were all raised with some version of the right thing. Why can't we bring it together?
@neldadaniels2786
@neldadaniels2786 3 жыл бұрын
@Laquasha Green Truly, I understand where you're coming from. I just don't think this is completely political. When you take out the politics, we're all people who should care about one another. It pains my soul that we don't. I don't care if it's left or right. The middle of the political scale is where the majority of us are but we allow these political parties to segregate all of us on one side or the other and so many of all the people have bought into and allowed them to misguide us. It will take a great leader that we do not have now on either side to put all of us back on the right path.

Music is the one thing that can unite people and I've seen and heard all cultures of people sing all types of music. Each was more successful than The Temptations original, with "Get Ready" being their biggest hit, peaking at #4 on the US Hot 100 chart. This disc sold over one million copies and received a gold record awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The original deserves it's spot in history. Motown changed the face of music and gave us many treasures. Lots of times a band can do a cover and it's good, but ultimately gets lost or forgotten. Not this time. They slapped on so much funk to this that they made everybody pay attention. This song now oozes funk and you can feel it all the way to the bone. Fantastic jam, never gets old.

Rare Earth covered a lot of Motown hits. I got to attend a "personal" concert about 35 years ago in Woodstock, IL. They showed up out of the blue in a bar in town, I believe as a favor to the bar owner. There was such short notice, most people didn't even know they were here. I love the mix of this song with that snare. It's a sweet song. They got "Celebrate" too that you might know. Thanks. I think the track was a short version of the studio track. "Get Ready" is a Motown song written by Smokey Robinson, which resulted in two hit records for the label: a U.S. No. 29 version by The Temptations in 1966, and a U.S. No. 4 version by Rare Earth in 1970.

Music and musicians have no boundaries. Musicians throughout time have collaborated with others outside their genres. They have produced some of the best music. If the music moves you...the musicians achieved their goal.

You crack me up! Folks have already mentioned that it was a Motown tune-- but this version smokes too! I used to dance to this music and shock my parents. They never understood where I got my 'soul' from either!

If you like funk, you HAVE to watch “GRAND FUNK RAILROAD - Inside Looking Out 1969” It’s amazing! You’d never think it was just three guys in the band. They are so in tuned to each other, it’s crazy! I guarantee you’re going to dig it! 👍

Great track, great reaction. 😁👍🇬🇧 Yes Temptations were the first to record this, there is quite a few bands and singers that did a version of this track... The Proclaimers, Ella Fitzgerald, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Nolans, and more. 💞

If you have ANY doubt… hit up the songs “Ma” and “I know I’m losing you” …. For S & G’s check Terry Kath belting out “Make me Smile” Sometimes music is colorblind.

Hearing a voice and assuming it is one race or the other can be attributed to cultural influence and exposure. You watching these videos is a perfect example of breaking those influences and expanding your horizons beyond your standard exposure. Exceptionally well done.

nothing racist about having a preconceived notion about how a certain singer or band might sound. There are, on average, real physical differences between the races. Recognizing that is no big deal. Just be willing to have your mind changed once in a while and don't judge an individual based on his or her group characteristics.

Smokey Robinson and the Temptations sang this song back in 1966. Rare Earth was the first White band to be signed by Motown Records. The Temptations were know in Detroit as The Sunliners before they became the Temptations. If I`m not mistaken.

You reacted to the short version, with interruptions at 9 minutes. Now you need to listen to the long version, in concert. 21 minutes straight and while has instrument solos throughout, the 4 minute drum solo at the end is phenomenal!

Rare Earth is a Rock band signed to the Motown label. One of the 1st white bands on Motown. Being they were a Motown label, had access to all the Motown songbook library. This song Get Ready, is a cover of the Temptations song Get Ready. Eddie Kendricks sings lead but in a suprano voice. Here the lead singer sings it in a Regular Rock voice in Rock instrumentals. But same song.

Been feeling a bit down today, a bit of booty lock, and this definitely addressed some symptoms, but I think I need something a liiiiiittle stronger....
