I was completely on Rainbow's side for the locker room scene. She may have been angry when she said it, but she spoke the truth. They DID push it too far. My only gripe with the episode is that the parents weren't made to admit their share of the blame for the situation.

I think the issue was that Rainbow just blew up at her parents in one big screaming fit rather than talking to them. This is re-enforced by the fact that she doesn't even tell them she's a Wonderbolt or that she got into the academy. Rainbow should have sat them down and explained to them that she appreciates their support but they're overdoing it. I like to think RD's grand gesture gave them a taste of what their over done support is like and they'll know to rain it in a bit from now on. Something of interest that isn't touched upon is that while RD's parents gave her the confidence to become as great as she is they are technically responsible for Rainbow's worst trait, her ego.

And so we finally know why Rainbow Dash thinks so highly of herself...

this episode was just amazing.also, a writer confirmed that the rainbow maned stallion wasnt rainbows dad long before season 6 even ended. also, spitfire was there because rainbow was competing in the senior circuit. spitfire, soarin, and derpy were all senior flyer age while rainbow was young for it. also, scootaloo was the one being harsh to rainbow which is very understandable considering.

I didn't notice this the first time I watch this episode. At the ribbon cutting , Rainbow Dash cut off A chunk of Spitfire's tail. ROFLMAO

Just wanted to put out a warning, I know you said you were gonna wait for a few Totally Legit Recaps to come out before you react to more, but the newest one for Forever Filly that just came out has some spoiler scenes from episode 9, so I would recommend waiting until you've seen that episode before doing that recap, just a heads up

Everyone is just looking for the backgroud ponys and I feel like no one cares for Rainbows point of view and how she gets manipulated by Scootaloo and her parents into thinking it's her fault for feeling embarassed and I am a little bit mad about this!

Yeah, i appreciate the moral but don't agree as to how it was executed. Being supportive is one thing, but being a public disturbance, such as shooting *firework* at the performers is a whole another thing together. Just because you are proud of your son at being a successful actor, you still shouldn't yell and cheer at the movie theater. The way they show the moral just seem like Scoot guilt tripping RD into admitting she was wrong and that there is nothing bad in being over-the-top supportive. All we really need is for RD to sit down with her parents and say "I love you two, but you need to *chill*." Seriously though, there are real life issues concerning over protective parenting that lead to the kid having a terrible social problems and worse.

This is an odd one for me because I love this episode to pieces however there were a couple of moments that I didn't care for in particular: First of all Scootaloo, she seemed completely blind to Rainbow's embarrasment of her parents, and when Rainbow told her how she was feeling she made her feel bad that she had made Rainbow's parents cry, which admittedly Rainbow shouldn't have done that; she should have talked to them calmly about her feelings, but in that situation where the preasure kept building up she finally lost it and said some things that she shouldn't have, which everyone has done at some point. 　 Also Rainbow's parents; while I did laugh at their antics thinking about it they really messed up The Wonderbolt's routine by throwing fireworks and disrupting everything that they did, I get that they were excited but there's such a thing as too much support, which we saw with Vapor Trail's backstory in Top Bolt. 　 The fact that the episode made it Rainbow's fault with how she acted was definitely wrong, don't get me wrong I love the episode so much, but the end lesson was definitely wrong; at least in my opinion. 　 However upon saying that I love this episode, Scootaloo's delight at seeing Rainbow's parents, the music playing whenever the door opened made me laugh like crazy and other moments like that were great, plus we actually saw the Wonderbolts being nice to Rainbow, they seemed like they wanted to say something or make fun of her but instead they just gave her a look and a smile, which I appreciated seeing. 　 Also I don't think that Scootaloo is an orphan, you can have parents that aren't supportive. I just don't see Hasbro making a main character an orphan. Also Rainbow did say that she was the youngest in the flying group at that time, so I'm guessing that she and Lightning Dust didn't hang out when they were younger. 　 So yeah, overall an odd episode for me personally because I did love the episode, just a couple of moments that I mentioned I didn't particularly care for. But even so the episode is definitely up there as one of my favorite Rainbow centered episodes. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

I kept on getting the vibe through out the first part of the episode when Scootiloo was looking through Rainbow's bedroom and house that this is how I would act if I was invited into the home of a celebrity I really like by their own parents xD

Ngl, Rainbow was in the right. It was clear that she tried her best to keep her parents out of her personal life, they were very overwhelming for her and got in the way of her job. But it's like this episode guilt trips you into thinking she's wrong just because characters like Scootaloo dont have parents willing to support them 24/7. Remember kids, It's OK if you dont appreciate your family getting in the way of your life and being over supportive. You should be allowed to live your way where you dont feel overwhelmed or guilt tripped into thinking you're wrong for wanting your parents to give you space (a lesson this episode doesnt seem to understand) .

I agree they were a bit too hard on Rainbow. And I really want to see more Lightning Dust. I still believe that if not the next one, then eventually she'll be one of Starlight's friends.

That's why I love you or all the Reactors out there the most! You're the first I saw who brought up the age gap issue between Spitfire and Rainbow Dash. Naturally in a career with high requirements in health and fitness, Spitfire had to rank up much faster. And we didn't really know how much of a setback the drop-out of fight-school for Rainbow Dash was to get in the academy, or if it was. But I had the same thought, that Spitfire should be too old to be in same competition with Rainbow Dash as filly.

I know a lot of people brought up Lightning Dust and Rainbow Dash not remembering eachother, but I can understand it. I wrestled in highschool and lost to a kid in overtime at the California freestyle state championship tournament, and I still remember the match vividly. Two years later me and that same kid coincidently moved to the same city and were on the same team, but we didn't realize until halfway through the season when a coach brought up that match, even though I remembered the match so well. That was only two years time, I'm sure it was way longer since Rainbow Dash and Lighting Dust had competed

I think Fleetfoot wasnt being nice i think she was trying to make the situation worse for Rainbow lol. Also the trading card for Rainbow Blaze said he was Rainbows mentor but that rainbow hair.....I think he might be her uncle or something. Also not everyone will remember peopel fromt heir childhood. And please dont assume that Scootaloo is an orphan. Its probably like what Lauren Faust said. She does have parents but are to busy. Rainbow Dash did say she's the youngest one of the race, the rest were in junior (aka upper class) including Spitfire.

On the critique, I'm sure the Wonderbolts are aware of her parents being like this since childhood (As shown in the flashback) and so I can understand the tolerance they had on them. I'm sure that's something the writers didn't have to put on screen because it wouldn't have done anything to change the plot.

The big surprise for me this episode was Rainbow getting her mane from her dad.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned this yet, but I love the little detail they added with Starlight Glimmer in the intro. In season 6, she looked very shy and worried in the photo, but in season 7 she looks a lot more happy.

RD's parents and Scootaloo were so disgustingly manipulative towards RD this episode, she should have been even harsher on her parents when she screamed at them. I mean did they and the bronies not notice how Dash was hyperventilating and how emotional she was? This episode was great in showing that RD's parents and Scootaloo are the perfect Brony inserts in that they are people that lack any sympathy and empathy. And they put all the blame on Dash so now she knows that she should never ever ever ever ever speak her mind and just be a slave to Scootaloo and her parents.

I agree that they needed to have the parents acknowledge that they've been overly enthusiastic to the point of distraction. Just one line of them saying they'll tone it down would've been fine. Otherwise, this was a pretty amazing episode.

I gotta say, it keeps becoming more and more noticeable each time I see a new reaction for this episode: Scootaloo's VA (forgot her name for the moment cuz I suck) IS REALLLLLLLLLLLY good in this episode. Like 11/10 good.

After watching this episode who else has a feeling that Lightning Dust and Wind Rider are planning revenge on Rainbow Dash with the help of the Shadowbolts? The current writers need to be informed about season 1 episode 2. Think about it. If Nightmare Moon was locked away for a 1000 years she couldn't have heard of the Wonderbolts to create the Shadowbolts to fool Rainbow Dash right? So here's my personal idea for the show. In season 1 episode 2 when the main 6 were helping the sea serpent Nightmare Moon discovered the hideout of the Shadowbolts. She peeked in and saw how they look like. This gave her an idea. When the main 6 arrived to the broken bridge Nightmare Moon took the form of 3 pegasuses and copied the Shadowbolts uniforms. Thats how she was trying to fool Rainbow Dash. In short Nightmare Moon IMPERSONATED the Shadowbolts! But she was unaware that the Shadowbolts leader Nightshade secretly followed her and saw everything in the bushes. And when the Shadowbolts would make their appearance Nightshade would tell Rainbow Dash what really happened and show a photo to Rainbow Dash. And on the photo we can see Rainbow Dash in her season 2 Nightmare Night costume, meaning Rainbow Dash was a Shadowbolt once. Lightning Dust and Wind Rider would also appear as Shadowbolts. They would make Rainbow Dash join the Shadowbolts so the main 5 has to come up with away to save Rainbow Dash becouse the more time she spends with the Shadowbolts the more she gives in to her darker side and she pulls more pranks. Also I think Lightning Dust and Wind Rider was watching the Wonderbolt performance and were planning revenge. I would like to see the look on Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles faces when they meet the Shadowbolts, when they meet Lightning Dust and Wind Rider as Shadowbolts, and when they found out that there daughter has joined the Shadowbolts. Note: a Wonderbolts vs Shadowbolts episode is exactly what the show needs, and a Shadowbolt Rainbow dash. And if Scootaloo has problems with flying the Shadowbolts could help her. I really thought Rainbow Dash being portrayed as the bad guy was unjustified. Sure her parents are being supportive, but they were too overbearing and annoying. The lesson should have been not being afraid to tell your parents when theyve crossed the line or something.

Yes! The head canon that's been going through my head ever since 'Rarity Investigates'. What caught my eye was the flashback at the cake shop, when it showed a slightly more female pony rather than a male one. The theory I came up with is that Wind Rider and Lightning Dust are relatives, that Lightning bought the cake, sent the letter to Spitfire, and framed RD for revenge. But Wind Rider, knowing how good of a flier RD is/how much the Wonderbolts would benefit from having her as well as not wanting Lightning Dust to be found out/lose even more favor with the Wonderbolts, framed himself(while also making it look convincing when they quote-unquote 'catch him red hoofed').

New Theory: Scootaloo has neglectful parents.

The reason I wasn't a fan of this episode is because there were a lot of details that didn't make sense. For instance; The flashback in Games Ponies Play showed 2 different ponies that looked like they'd be her parents. And that Rainbow had already met Lightning Dust and several Wonderbolts and doesn't seem to remember that. This episode just messed with my head canon a lot.

Just a note, near the end after Rainbow Dash's performance for her parents Windy Whistles bashfully mentions that the big performance was a bit embarrassing, and Bow Hothoof agrees that "it is a bit much". I feel like that's them kinda admitting they were overboard and realize that now, I feel like that might kinda address your one gripe with the episode, though it is still admittedly glossed over.

watch "Where the Apple Lies" at the hospital scene where you see Derpy has her eyes bandage up. The with "Parental Glideance" where Derpy progression from 1st to 6th place where her eyes began to falter to current situation as Mailmare.

I understand that Spitfire and Soarin don't look a lot older, but keep in mind that Dash said that she was in the "Senior's Flappers Club" (or something) even though most fillies and colts her age were in the "Junior's Flappers Club". Also, the fact that her parents were so overbearing and supportive of her was probably the reason why she didn't befriend or get to know Spitfire, Soarin, and Lightning Dust at that age.

Throughout mlp all the flashbacks of Derpy painted a picture in my mind that she was a prodigy as a filly. I know shes just a character but seeing her decline stings a little.

is section of the story where Derpy was 1st. Genetic anomaly causing her eyes to derp and possibly memory loss, as well as her flying.

Her mom was without a doubt the cutest character in a long time

There's only one thing I hope for them to do with Scootaloo's parents. Now that the season is over, we've seen all parents of all main and supporting characters except for Spike and Scootaloo, (and I guess Starlight too), but this is about Scootaloo. But all the parents have one thing in common: they're all married. There's two of them. They're all nuclear families. I really want to see them tackle a single parent with Scootaloo. A parent who is trying their hardest to support her with an important job, but is never around to show it. I think that would be a great angle to take with her, and I hope we can explore it in season 8.

What we learned from this episode: Where Rainbow got her attitude. Scootaloo is confirmed to have no parents. Rainbow had a thing for turtles long before she met Tank.
