There was something kind of wonderful about Rainbow Roadtrip. I'm sure if this ended up being movie length with celebrities playing the side characters, it would have had higher stakes and scale, but the character driven low key nature of the final product was refreshing. The mane six were all given something to do, and the overall message of not losing hope in a world where it's fading was relatable, and even a bit of emotional, considering the series is coming to an end soon. I would be interested to know what the original plan was, as this was meant to be the second theatrical film, so I'm wondering if there was a villain and a couple more songs in the first draft. As it stands, this was a pleasant surprise that was fun to watch, and all around adorable from start to finish. Rainbow Roadtrip gets an 8/10 from me.

Am I the only one who appreciated this entirely slice of life special, no crazy action had to happen for this to be cute and enjoyable, the story was a bit slow but very real feeling with the theme of disconnect in a community over time, not to mention the characters introduced were all unique and lovable.

Okay, who else thinks "The End of the Rainbow" would be a more appropriate title for this film? The double-meaning alone makes it brilliant.

After the success of the MLP movie, I’m glad that this style of animation was reused for this special. I also admire the number of characters involved in the plot(like Petunia and Kerfuffle to name a few) as well as the songs(“Living in Color” is my favorite BTW). Nice reaction too, I liked it.

You know in retrospect, I feel the moral here is a lot more impactful now then it would have been 20, even 10 years ago. It seems like people don't listen or talk to each other anymore.

While I did enjoy this special, it feels weird to get an hour long, movie animation, Slice of life story. It’s very casually paced, and not much action happens. It’s good, just odd.

Because of the animation-style, it gets easily compared to the movie. And honestly, apart from the length and the songs, I think it's arguably on par with it. While the movie is more of an extended season finale adventure or something, this one's a REALLY good slice-of-life special. It's one of those things that's just an amazingly good, fun thing to get and cap off the entire series with before the real ending. One last simple feel-good Mane 6 adventure, with movie-level animation, and it'll be great to always come back to and rewatch if you ever just want to briefly come back to that special feeling of this show. I've seen a lot of people praise this special because they say it reminds them a lot of early S1/S2 FiM in all the right ways, and I can see what they mean. This does have that specific feeling of the early seasons I think the show has kinda passed and hasn't had in quite a long while. Granted, I think for longevity's sake, it had to pass that to survive, but it's still nice to revisit once more. Only thing I think could've been improved story-wise, is that I think maybe there should have been some slightly bigger, more specific explanation as to what suddenly drove the town into such a state of hopelessness. I mean, it's not far-fetched that it can just... happen; it often does in real life. But I feel like something super bad must've been going on to cause such a level of this "hopeless magic", because we've never seen it before, at least in this specific form and extent. This story/situation is basically the EXACT same as in "Made in Manehattan" and we didn't see it happen there. So the situation in this town must've been even worse, but I feel if that's the case, I think we kinda needed a bit of an explanation. Or is it just a time-thing? Maybe the longer it goes on, that's what causes it. Kinda does make you wonder why The Cutie Map didn't just call them to save this village, too. In fact, I'm kinda surprised they did this "invited to a rainbow festival" thing instead of just using the map to get the story going. Would've made just as much, if not more sense.

What I'd like to say is that the show finally put emphasis on amputee ponies

I loved this episode. Not epic by any means or a favorite (such as Best Gift Ever), but very sweet and cute. I may have teared up a smidge at all the wholesomeness... The Mayor and Petunia especially were so sweet, IMO. I also really loved that it was also the last day of pride month and rainbow-filled!

What I haven't seen anyone mention is that the Mayor was voiced by Ian Hanlin, AKA Sunburst So if you ever wanted a Sunburst song, now you can close your eyes and imagine. I know there's at least one Sunburst fan out there

Okay apparently I just never watched this. It was a super nice surprise to find new pony a couple years after the show ended. Made me tear up a few times :)

I'm surprised that this is just about the first time that clothing specifically for wings is shown in MLP. You'd probably expect that to be pretty common considering about a third of the ponies are pegasi. Also, I'm guessing wings would get pretty cold during the winter considering how thin they are and how they are usually exposed to wind. Very nice design on the rainbow princess wing decorations.

This special gave us a lot of new really likable characters. It's a shame we'll probably never see them again. Which is a shame since I'd love to see Sunny Skies and Petunia's wedding.

If they ever revisit this town (in another special or something)-- I think it'd be cool if one of the town's ponies is naturally grey and white and is worried that there's something wrong with them since they didn't change physically.

This was kind of a toss up. While the story itself was pretty bland and forgettable, it more than made up for it with all the fun and memorable new characters. For as little as I cared about what was happening, I was surprised at how quickly I became invested with so many new faces. To me, all of these characters have an impact on par with Autumn Blaze; shame we probably won't get to see any of them ever again. Long live Kerfuffle and Torque.

i enjoyed it and while it wasnt great and probably didnt deserve the hour long special not to mention story elements thats been used before, Pinkie is kinda dumb which she shouldnt be i do think the message makes up for it especially since it improved on the whole befriending ponies that the movie suffered from. Hell EVERY pony did this instead of just a few. Despite it being saccharine as fuck and being kinda OG mlp related i actually care and felt for this town id say its a good B+

i’m going to give my opinion on it as is since i’ve already watched this and then make an edit giving any adjustments to my opinion if any. i’m not one to sugarcoat things i’m indifference about this special it was a enjoyable special and i had fun watching it. i enjoyed the movie animation it’s so smooth and fluid but i don’t understand why they’re using this animation i know this is the transitional period for gen 4-5 and that’s might be a reason but they could of just used the original animation and people will be happy by it. this was a hr long and had only two songs in it. what’s with the big mac clone? they run out of models and used big mac and colored him blue. why did the mayor have to “lie”to rainbow dash about the resort and the quality of the town. openly admitting they have a problem with the lack of color and asking Rainbow Dash to fix the lack of the Rainbow in the town the mane 6 would be more than happy to help. they would have been more prepared for the hotel and the crash landing and all of that... the story and plot was “creative” they used the children love rainbow dash trope again which really wasn’t needed. she is awesome why make her only in own world fans children? all the different town ponies bounding with the mane 6 was nice. i loved AppleJack and that repair pony. i feel sorry for her AppleJack was the first pony to give her the respect she deserves for her work as a Handy-pony. it’s been at least a year since the last rainbow festival she was able to fix the machine thing this time around why not just have her fix it when it broke? the mayor originally thought it was the cause of the problem. only Handy Pony in town have her fix it right when it broke. instead of asking Rainbow Dash to come to town. thus he would know if that actually was the problem. Hopeless magic? really the machine that made a rainbow at the rainbow festival brakes makes you lose hope thus losing your color? how did that make everyone be indifferent to each other. the ponies from manehatten not property introducing themselves to their neighbor after living next to him for years. they never ran into each other when our shopping or checking the mail? i’m looking way too into this. one of the best parts of this series is this the songs. if they had a song not for each mane 6 pony because that might’ve been annoying after awhile. maybe rainbow dash inspiring the twins to take it slow and applejack singing a jingle about how important it is to be a handy pony. just more songs. overall even though my complaints may be nitpicking i can’t say i hated this special i probably enjoyed it a lot less because i didn’t watch it all in one go. i’ll give it 7.5/10 good special to watch once not much for replay value.
