I live in the town where the Lister D was made. I rebuilt one. The simplicity and the quality of manufacture meant that with only basic maintenance, Lister D's would run foreve! Great bike too. Love the imagination and style of the rider...! Thoroughly enjoyed watching that....!

Well now, when we had a 1936 "Liner" cement mixer in our farm yard, I never ever thought that it's Lister "D" upright engine would find a home in a motorcycle. . . Hmm, goes to show you never can tell! And those engines will plod along, day in, and day out, without missing a beat. As for cooking food in the water hopper? Absolutely true, and the builders used to boil eggs in ours, then, come break time, hot egg sandwiches and tea, or coffee. If you wanted the deluxe cooling system, you could get a version with a radiator and fan, using thermo-syphon to circulate the water.

I've never understood the rat rod/ steampunk aesthetic, but that is one heck of a bike right there. It looks fantastic (if a tad overboard on the patina for my taste) and has tons of character. Plus, it can make a solid lunch, so I'd say it's a super-nice ride. o7

Original steampunk was a great aesthetic. Unfortunately it was taken over by people that didn't understand it, and started making everything clockwork/using cogs and stuff as buttons everywhere for no discernible reason. You know, how a lot of stuff is ruined. Thankfully dieselpunk is largely untouched by these types.

This has become my favourite YT video. It scores so many points in so many areas. Ingenuity, humour, style, artistry & artfulness, etc. And you have the essence of steampunk nailed. But the start system has to be of especial note. Anyone else might have just made a place to clip the handle on the frame. But incorporating it behind what looks like an electric pushbutton labelled "STARTER", that is sheer genius. Steiner (Lief) = you aare briiliant. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I have the idea of building a diesel powered motorcycle using a 7 horsepower Lombardi air cooled diesel engine. It looks like you pretty much built your own frame and just used the forks and rear of an existing motorcycle. Your frame nicely accommodates the extreme height of your engine. I hope to modify an existing frame, but we will see how it goes. I like yours a lot. I think it shows not only a lot of building skill and talent, but a lot of creativity. Very nice!!

I do not know if its a Lister engine, it could be also a Deutz, but it is made the 30th. This neat piece of machinery make enough power for hand tools, a small welder and lighting. The sound of those old engines is incredible.

About 45 years ago, I worked at a rental yard, that 2 or 3 generators, powered by Lister engines. The original owner bought them, to run, at the Boulder Dam, on the Colorado river, between Arizona and Nevada. (I think the dam has been renamed since.) They were hand-crank start, and had a compression release for each cylinder. One was 2 cylinder, an other was 3 cylinder. All were water cooled. That was in the '70's. Wish I could find one like them. steve

He used 2 cylinders from a radial airplane engine, and made his own crankcase, rods and crankshaft, and almost everything else, except the pistons and cylinders. Those who may not have seen his videos on youtube, just search flying millyard. He does some amazing work. That said, this is a great video, on it's own. I've got a Lister D engine just like this (1935), I can't think of a worse power source for a motorcycle! But that's what makes this so cool. A stationary engine, not being stationary. A hopper-cooled engine on a motorbike. What could go wrong? Awesome :)

Yes the bike has many wonderful aspects BUT when I saw the hotdogs being cooked I saw opportunity! Could a can of beans fit in there? A boil in bag Salisbury steak dinner?!? Carry a ladle, a cup, some dried soup, coffee or tea maybe? It’s Norway so just replenish with snow... maybe consider wearing a plague doctors beak as well. What great fun content here. Thanks very much for posting! Quite enjoyed it.
