Continuing the 1951 Chevy Budget Rat Truck build, I come up with strange ideas for tail light mountings and also build some tailgate latches.

Duff, You could always make tool storage like I used to do with all my pickup trucks. You just use a piano hinge and the outer skin pulls up and it gives you a hidden tool storage. It's really simple and I've done it since the 70's because my tools always got stolen or found legs and ran or got adopted with out my permission. Either way it's a great way to use blank space. I enjoy your videos very much so, thanks for taking the time to make them !

Before I read other comments, you pointed out the bump out down low that matches the tapered bump out you built. So by using the bottom they are symmetric and stacked. Just that girls should look. Besides, it is already there. Looks great! That is the beauty of this kind of build! You make it yours, what pleases your eyes. It is a tease to ask as you have most likely put them on by the time this reaches you. But one higher and one below on the sides other natural curve already stamped into the metal. Don't over think it, stick it on and take a look from aways back as this will give you pleasure or blah! Pain... DK, Omaha.

Turn signal in lower curve is excellent for symmetry, but they are really low in that spot. But I think that backing lights would fit excellent in there. As for the turn signals - for some reason i like the idea of putting them inboard lower diagonally. That will further break that flat panel look. Also, that taillight look pretty like corner point for me. My practical side see some asymmetrical visor, wrapping around it from top and inboard and leaving it visible from side

You certainly go to great difficulty to make very cool details ! I love it ! I actually like the turn signals down low on the lower bump out. The side by side look with an interesting trim would be cool as well. I like the weld tacks left visible . I think that is a signature look for your creations. Like the simplicity of the latches . You can't go wrong with simple mechanisms. Easy to build , easy to maintain , easy to replace, easy to use. Good Job !

You can make spring loaded tailgate latches by using a piece of flat bar like 4 in long 90 degree 1 in drill a hole through it insert a piece of round bar with a spring and a washer weld the washer onto the round bar which will load the spring, then drill a hole in the bed frame that allows the round bar to recess into , then bend a down turn in the round bar and then weld the assembly to the tailgate and u will have spring loaded tailgate latches.

Nice job on the tail lights but I probably would have recessed the tail lights back into the tube but that's me.🇺🇲👍

Yes, turn signal next to the tail light. As for the small radius down below, how's about back up lights? Some small bright white lights would look very stylish!!

Really enjoy watching your project progress from Nova Scotia Canada. Personal I like the indicator next to the tail light.
