Ray's should be recognized as a national treasure. One in a million. Saw him once at a casino. Laughed my ass off at his stories. Love his music. Drunken poet's dream is my favorite. Lyrics are so vivid and descriptive you can picture what he's singing.

In an interview Ray said he is getting older and this song is about his mortality

Ray Wylie songs are like a journey. You have a detour, a couple left turns, obstructions in your way on a strange trip but in the end you enjoyed the ride!

Tell the devil that ill get there as fast as i can is a metaphor for living life till the very end.

One thing I’ve noticed about Ray is that he seems to write quite a few songs about the musical lifestyle. He often goes into much greater detail than you might expect, listing specific gear, bands etc.

I can relate to living with her is like living in a thunderstorm 😂 That is his son playing that equisite Les Paul. To me this story is about living life through the struggles and it not being to coveted "Leave It To Beaver" world. And the beauty is you can draw your own conclusions and imaginations. I realize this is a year old- I’m catching up. Maybe it’s being kind of a geezer - 67 years old they say, a few years younger than RWH. This seems pretty simple to me. Songs like this and “Choctaw Bingo” are nothing more than the answer to the question, “Hey Ray! Whatcha been up to?” This one is just “I’m living a hardass life, headed for hell. Tell the devil….”

Folks that like don't him are usually not people you'd want to waste time on. I know that's some tough litmus...but it's true every time!

I take it to mean that he’s buying his way to hell not by doing anything horrible, but by making every stupid little mistake along the way.

I recommend Snake Farm and Mother Blues. Snake Farm because it’s a fun song and Mother Blues because it tells more of his and his wife’s story. Thanx for some rwh Don.
