Having left the hollers of Kentucky 15 years ago, Raylan Givens now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 15-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind. A chance encounter on a desolate Florida highway sends him to Detroit. There he crosses paths with Clement Mansell, aka The Oklahoma Wildman, a violent, sociopathic desperado who's already slipped through the fingers of Detroit's finest once and aims to do so again. Mansell's attorney, formidable Motor City native Carolyn Wilder, has every intention of representing her client, even as she finds herself caught between cop and criminal, with her own game afoot as well. These three characters set out on a collision course in classic Elmore Leonard fashion, to see who makes it out of the City Primeval alive.

Eight episodes to get one five second actual Justified scene. That was bad enough, but it implied that it wasn't a justified shooting and covered up the same way as everything else in the hellhole of Detroit. In the real Justified, Raylan took you out because you deserved it and it was a justified shoot. Being one of those who avoids previews and spoilers like the plague so I can experience a movie or show with no foreknowledge, I expected Justified set in Detroit (I obviously knew at least that much) to be Raylan following up with his previous Detroit mob interactions. That seemed logical rather than this mishmash of corruption and psychotically violent grifting that was completely unconnected to Justified. The Mandalorian episode had more connection. At least there was no whiny brat and cartoon Albanians doing their best wild and crazy guy impressions.

This series was terrible from the idiotic portrayal of Detroit to the pathetic role of Raylan' s daughter. The book wasn't much better a waste of my money. Givens having a fling with that heifer judge? 😆
