Intended for those wanting to get a taste of Macro Photography without the expense.
The Raynox DCR-250 offers up to 2.5x magnification depending on the focal length of the lens used. Please note the diopter will clip snugly onto the front element of lenses with a filter diameter of 67mm. Anything beyond that and you will need to get a step down ring for it to work as intended.
To calculate the macro ratio of the lens you intend to use in conjunction with the DCR-250, or other Raynox diopter lenses, check out this nifty little converter engine here:

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your video is the first I’ve seen, after much searching, which really explains how to fit the Raynox snap on to my camera. I was so frustrated. 👍

Perhaps to illustrate the oof corner areas from the lens....you shoot something flat and then you’ll be able to actually determine the amount of oof as it relates to small depth of field, or the lenses corner performance.

Considering what you said about the falloff of sharpness, you could have shown a comparison of the lens with the 250 and a simple crop to the same size using only the main lens. Modern cameras have so many spare megapixels that we might be as well off cropping as adding additional glass. Most reviewers seemed to like the Raynox better than you did and probably blamed that unsharpness on the lack of depth of field. I have not seen one that I believe did enough testing to prove one way or the other. There is also the possibility of putting that lens on an extension tube and achieving a third way of going closer.

Cheers for the feedback. I think many of the viewers and subscribers here have seen my imaging when dealing with the same subjects. Maybe I took that for granted. I no longer have the Raynox to make any additional content about it. Cheers.

Thank you for this video. I have a Lumix S1r 47.5 megapixels, 287 high resolution mode. For this, I will stick to my lenses for EF mount with adaptor. This is one of the times where too many pixels isn't enough.
@chennyye28
@chennyye28 7 ай бұрын
Well, you actually don't want a lens with too many pixels, the reason is optic diffraction is quite strong when shooting in macro, while if you want a depth of field, you need to lower the aperture, which lead to the efficient resolution is limited by the lens not the sensor. Unless you will use the focus stacking skills.

Hi Ya, I watched your video yesterday as well as a stream of other and in the end bought a dcr-150, as a starter. Now talking on filters, one question I ask is that my lens is a 62mm, do I use that filter a polarizer there or do I now need either another 49mm polariser or do I get a 49mm-to-62mm attachment. Any advice would be great please. Once again Thanks for the You-Tube tutorial..
@seawildearth
@seawildearth Жыл бұрын
If you're asking whether this fits over the polarizer I would say yes. Personally, I wouldn't be using a polarizer in macro photography. You wouldn't need a second setup ring.

What happens if you close aperture further and compensate with more light? Will it still be such a drastic drop off?
@seawildearth
@seawildearth 2 жыл бұрын
It is a characteristic of the glass element. Irrespective of the aperture used I am of the mind that you will see that drop off in quality through to the corners.

Hi, I love this video. Can I also get great result if I attach Raynox DCR 250 to a non-macro lens. I have Tamrom 18-200mm 3.5-6.5

Hi there, I've only ever used this clip on filter on Macro lenses so I'm not sure what the results would be if you use it with the Tamron lens you mentioned. Only one way to find out! I'd be interested to hear of it does work.

Hi I just used it on my 100mm f / 2.8 and I don't see anything at all. Is the converter not compatible with this lens or is it because I have a mirrorless instead of a DSLR? Thanks
@seawildearth
@seawildearth 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jorge, I have never used that combination so I cannot really give you any insight. It shouldn't matter if the camera is mirrorless or not.

@@seawildearth The Raynox is an optical device, neither camera nor lens should matter, though AF might not work in some cameras.

How would focus stack work with the raynox? Will it fix the dof line? Thinking about it for my olympus, that can focus stack directly in cam.
@oneeyedphotographer
@oneeyedphotographer 2 жыл бұрын
If you have an Olympus with high res, 80 megapixels in camera is a good start. In-camera stacking might not work with the 60mm lens, but bracketing should.

Was it the 90mm MACRO lens that you used this on? I’m looking to get the Sigma 100mm f2.8 macro and I’m wondering if I can add a Raynox onto it to get beyond 2:1 magnification. Can you give any advice there? Thank you. Really love your tutorials.

Great stuff cheers, I'm researching what I need for microscope objective macro photography at 10x mag, a vid I watched mentioned the Raynox Diopter and was wondering how it clipped on, great analysis on the bokeh, I don't think there will be an issue using a microscope objective as the image circle is so small and the center of the raynox lens will be used to spread the light to the sensor, would you have any thoughts on that?
