Razer is in this space for a long time and the Basilisk series remains one of their top-selling gaming mice, probably with good reason. So we now get the latest, the Basilisk V3, and apart from the usual upgrades such as the sensor and RGB, we now get a really nifty scroll wheel.

Just got the V3 recently (V2 is barely available in my country nowadays) and I can't shake the feeling of discomfort because of the DPI button/switch on the left hand side which not only does not work but also feels like a bump in my way when I'm trying to rest my hand. Also despite the more abrasive coating that's meant to tighten your grip on the mouse and prevent sweat issues, I still feel the mouse slipping away. Maybe also cuz of the way in which I position my hand as to avoid said "bump" and also the hump on its back that pushes the hand away. Any advice on bypassing such shortcomings? Or should I take it back and get the wireless version instead, which doesn't have the left DPI button and seems a bit smaller and less restrictive (although I have rather big hands and thus have always preferred Deathadders).

A nice review, and going over the features thoroughly. I've been on a Mionix Castor since 2015 (my second one which i got in 2017). On both reitirations, the rubber grip on the side started to peel off, and that was annoying. With this one, it started to peel off on December 2022. I was really on the look out, and the Razer Basilisk really cought my eye. My last Razer mouse was the Death Adder 2013. Although the Rasilisk Pro would've been nice, for its wireless feature and charging, for convenience, I just couldn't agree to paying up around £150 for a mouse, especially with cost of living in general. I am just glad the Basilisk V3 Wired i picked up for £57 on Amazon was very reasonable, and I jumped in with my decision. As for the Mionix mice to anyone who reads this. They are nice, build wise the buttons and ergonomics is comfortable. Just regarding the rubber grip, they do tend to peel off after a couple of years, so that's its only downside. The big problem I had with the Basilisk... My ring finger would readily impact and actuate the wrap around right mouse button when squeezing the mouse to use the thumb buttons.

3:11 a lot of people did not know this. Thanks for the info! My Basilisk v2 has a chipped paint on left side I am willing to give Razer a 2nd chance if something wears off in less than 5 years ima just move to Corsair.

Hi there, thanks for your review :) Does the lack of a foot on the right side of the mouse impact how the mouse moves while in use? Have seen other reviewers mention it, but just picked up my original Basilisk and realised it also doesn’t have a foot on the right side, and have never noticed any drag because of it, so am wondering whether it’s something that is a very individual experience. Thanks!

Not at all. It will only affect depending on how you grip the mouse. As long as your pinky doesn’t drag across the mat, you should be good.

For modders: I wonder if it's possible to find the scroll wheel part that is built into the V3, to replace the Ultimate's scroll wheel with it. Although, since the switch between tactile and free-spin is electronically controlled, there must also be a difference between the two mice's circuit board, making the mod harder to pull off. Coming from a G502, Im just really missing that free spin on the Ultimate, I hope they update that model soon.

Hmmmm… possibly an update to the Basilisk Ultimate down the road, to include the new 26K sensor and that scroll wheel. We don’t know when however. But it’s a plausible future.

Removing the resistance dial under the mouse is a deal breaker. It was the V2’s best feature.

You will feel a little weight/resistance in tactile mode.

How long it lasts depend on how fast/hard you flick it. Like a spinning top. The force needed to start it is pretty easy, a little light for our liking.

Up to you. Ergonomics is the main differentiating factor along with weight. If you feel like trying something different, go for it.

I'm on a dilemma. I have Basilisk V2, but need a new one for my Laptop, on which i play Kovaaks(Aim Trainer). I have hard time choosing between this one and DeathAdder V2 PRO.Razer said this is a new sensor. Obviously it has 6k more DPI, but no one cares about this one. Is the sensor improved, in terms of preciouses, tracking, smoothness and so on, or is the same sensor as DeathAdder and Basilisk V2, with just added a bit more DPI ???

The sensor is definitely updated. The clicks also feel more based and sturdy. I’m telling you this owning both basilisk V3 and a viper. (I returned the viper)

Wow! If V2 is discounted to half the price of V3, we would say V2 is still very much worth it. They are almost exactly the same and the V2 does feature the ability to remove that side trigger should you want to. Perhaps if you can try it out in store, that'll be the best. But just based on price alone, the V2 is definitely tempting.

Do you know if it is possible to exchange some parts? Unfortunately the built quality of the Basilisk v3 is horrendous, especially the wheel. But from all mice it still hast the best shape, together with the G502. I also own a Viper 8K (the shape really sucks) and I wonder what would be possible to rip out of it to put it into the Basilisk. It seems there is no really good mouse on the market, they all have something really bad. And nearly most of them are by far to heavy. I miss the good old times with the MX518, the best mouse ever produced. :-/

Not *just* an upgrade from the V2.. Upgraded Focus+ , going from 20k to 26k is a HUGE difference. And that's directly competing with the HERO 25k. Also.. I'm guessing that the multi-function trigger is also an optical switch. But would have made more sense if it was an analog optical switch. Which I realize is only possible in their keyboard switches right now.. but analog optical mouse switches will be the next best thing.

@@leksdex5682 at the time of that comment I posted, I was in an aggravated mood. And I'm sorry for what I said. Going from 20k to 26k is a huge difference. That's a difference of 6000 DPI, of course. For example, if you played at 400 dpi and added 6000 dpi to that! 6400 dpi would feel very different to you. Yes, you can convert your current sensitivity while using 400 dpi so that you'd be using the correct translation of sens while at 6400 dpi. I'm a max dpi user and playing at that level is a very different experience. We're talking about the most "raw input" you can be at. As every micro movement you do translates onto your screen, you're experiencing true accuracy.

Then you are missing on performance. Edpi is the key. You increase dpi and adjust sensitivity to keep your preferred edpi

@@Terafied By the way, i have some questions about this mouse. 1) Is the left click sound/feeling, satisfying? 2) How do you change the dpi? With the button under wheel unlock (like g502) or with the button under the mouse? Actually the "profile switching" can change just the DPI? 3) I have G502 but the left click is a bit broken right now (still usable for browsing and mild gaming). The thing i like too much about 502 is the upper side buttons. I use them in some games but also , i use them for Copy / paste (control C/Control V) while browsing. Can i make the same with this mouse? Like, while pressing the clutch button and then pressing some other button to do that task? For example G502 has this kind of button (G button) to also, while pressing it, to be able to do different stuff with the other buttons. Such a good customization.
