Razer might get some flak for being one of the most "gamery" brands out there, but their new Viper Mini SE mouse seems like it could be something special. With a magnesium body, great sensor, and various software features, will David be impressed or is the price tag too high?

Amazing mouse, but Razer really missed the mark on why the Viper Mini was so popular. The price point. The shape is pretty safe but not for everyone, but at such a cheap price and just a solid overall mouse, it was very hyped and recommended widely. Unfortunately, Razer saw this as a kind of push for the best of the best in a mouse, influenced by the hypebeast Finalmouse magnesium alloy mice, and perhaps innovation by the likes of G-Wolves' many ambitious strides. They made this. Sure you can argue that the many polls taken by Razer to the community over the development caused this, but they were blindsided by buzzwords... lol anyways theyre working on a non magnesium one soon, for the average consumer.

Magnesium is a metal that in time will evaporate on it own. And it is flammable it is what they make road flares out of. Now other metals rot away but not magnesium it goes to a gaseous state. So the metal part that craps the finish off the magnesium exposes the metal starting the evaporation. Now you can use clear finger nail polish to seal it back up and you should. And if you smoke keep it away from the mouse because that would be a really bad fire that your home fire extinguisher may not put out.

Oil protects from corosion, it forms a polymer layer that binds to the metal and prevents moisture from reacting. So don't worry about your greasy hands, they will not corode the magnesium alloy.

I'd not trust even Razer's "premium" products to be good. I have their 200$ Basilisk Ultimate, and the scroll wheel is so bad. Because of their adjustable resistance gimmick, the scroll wheel is super loose, and it double scrolls, skips steps, and the steps are uneven. And the software is so bad compared to even my 6 year old Roccat Kone EMP. It can't even swap profiles automatically, like Roccat has been able to for years and years. I've had 3 Razer products, and they've all had some problems that products at that price point shouldn't have.

razer seems to be picking up their quality. i picked up their optical low profile keyboard. Its super amazing compared to the low profile from logi. Still gonna be rough to get away from this logi mouse tough with the charging mat i literally never have to plug this mouse in and its amazing. Almost thinking that mouse would be sick for shooters and have the regular one for everything else

Mice started out lightweight, then we literally started adding weights, now we're back to wanting lightweight, but even lighter. Reminds me of cellphones. In the beginning, big was bad. Then we got the Razr, the LG Chocolate, hooo doggy! Then they decided bigger was better and now we have giant bricks we all carry around, some fold in half because even that isn't big enough. Apparently. Tech preferences are kinda funny over time.

Seems pretty premium product but one thing stood out for me, they had entire marketing point about adjustable lift off but then it was only a 3-step slider? Like Sensei had adjustable lift off 12 years ago and could adjust it by individual millimeters. Had a look in the software and man, the Sensei Ten is barebones compared to the original even though this is supposed to be an anniversary edition that respects the original.. I have to take a look if I can fix my Sensei, that was such a good mouse.
@PappyVPoodle
@PappyVPoodle Жыл бұрын
LOL it is adjustable, what do you mean? There's a seperate button at 10:27 that says "Enable Assymetric-Cutoff" and yeah, you can adjust both the Lift-off distance and the Landing distance in individual millimeters between 1-26 for both, 26 being high and 1 being low.

Review is lacking a lot of important information and testing: -Repairability: How is it to take apart and put back together? -Switches: What kind? If not optical, what brand/model? Are they hot swappable? -Scroll wheel: How's it feel? Optical or mechanical? What encoder? -Are the profiles stored in on-board memory on the device, or just stored in their windows crapware? The entire market has solved wireless responsiveness and reliability and have more than ample polling rates, yet it's all they scream about in their marketing still. Meanwhile, most mousewheel encoders become unusable after 2 years of daily use, and a lot of mouse switches develop issues over that time (especially logitech, who are rumoured to overvolt them to make them wear out faster. see "logitech doubleclick"). I really REALLY hope you guys start doing real testing when "the lab" is ready but honestly, a lot of this could have been tested or looked at during the shoot.

The top end Razer gaming mice have been excellent for the last few years at minimum so I am not sure why this host seemed so apprehensive at the beginning about a new high end Razer mouse. He also mentions Magnesium Alloy being used & how he doesn't know how it would stand up over long periods of use but fails to mention that Razer took this design idea from the Finalmouse Starlight, as well as a few other things. The Viper Mini SE was released as a direct competitor to the Finalmouse Starlight, as can be seen just by viewing the two mice or comparing specifications, so I think some comparisons (or even acknowledging the Finalmouse that inspired the Viper Mini SE) would have been useful. Sometimes LTT channels hit the nail right on the head when they have people like Anthony host a video about retro game consoles or Linux, but why is this host reviewing high end gaming mice when he seems to have little knowledge about it? I'm sure he is knowledgeable on other topics, it seems like he was put in a bad spot here. This is a top end enthusiast product meant to compete with an existing enthusiast level product, I would have liked to have seen a enthusiast review it like we do for so many other types of products on LTT channels.

You think? Well, I sure hope that's the case because this review lacked a lot of important information about the mouse, that definitely could have fit into the video without even lengthening it. Is the profile on-board or stuck in windows? What switches does it use? How's the scroll wheel? etc.

@@narwhal4304I looked up some of his previous mouse reviews which only made me more confused. In this review he says " I don't know if there is that many devices that are magnesium alloy that come into contact with disgusting oily hands, it remains to be seen if finger grease will mess this bad boy up " Despite the fact that almost exactly 1 year ago he reviewed the Finalmouse Starlight 12 which is made out of the same material.... Did he forget that he has already used a mouse made out of this stuff?

The skeleton body may look good when it's brand new but it will trap dirt and be difficult to clean. Also unless you are in the habit of getting mad and punching your desk or throwing your mouse across the room (in which case you should be working on that instead of playing video games), I don't think durability should be much of a concern...
@Cortanakya

Durability is always a concern with razer products. Seriously, their stuff works decently but it's a certainty that they'll fail earlier than products made by their competitors. That's coming from somebody that uses a razer keyboard and mouse.

Now if they had other mice made with durable materials. I have had 3 nagas fail in the last 8 years. All after warranty - the plastic becomes increasingly fragile, screw post snap or scroll holders snap. And that's assuming their switches or scroll pot doesn't start to fail (skipping scroll or failing/double clicks).
