Same here. It was my first not run-of-the-mill, found-in-the-office keyboard. I've since built multiple customs, but the difference between any generic office keyboard and a production gaming keyboard is enough to get you to drink the juice.

Awesome review as always. I'm not sure if you've tried this yet, but an easy way to lube razer stabs is to pop the key cap off, pull out the stems that connect to the wire (if they didn't stay attached to the cap) and put some grease on the inside of the part of the stem that clips on to the wire. Then some thinner lube on the 4 sides that make contact with the housing. I did this on my black widow mini and it got rid of the rattle entirely without gunking up the actuation.

Been waiting for this keyboard since the linear V2 came out on the huntsman mini. TKL is my ideal form factor I’m glad I can finally pair it with my razor viper ultimate. Had this keyboard about a week. I think it is my favorite keyboard I’ve had so far. Keypresses feel great key caps feel great. I do wish that the RGB Was a little brighter on max setting, but that may be just because of the key caps. Thanks again for an awesome review

Thanks for the review! I really hope the keys aren't drastically more dampened than the mini (in feel). The Huntsman Mini is only just bearable for me with the added switch dampening, and any more will make it too slow - it affects the key's reset speed quite a bit, which is very noticeable in games like Osu. On a side note, not to be a downer but I think you need your mic a bit closer - it's sounding a bit echoey and distorted in recent videos. You had really good mic audio before though, so that's the only reason I noticed, otherwise I'd not have said anything.

It'd be interesting if they did go with a heavier actuation than with the keys in the Mini, because the Mini definitely already had heavier actuation than the original "V1" linears in the OG Huntsman TE. I main the Mini right now, and on my force gauge it is at *least* 7-8gf heavier than my first-run Huntsman TE. I get that the V1s were too light for most people, but I don't know that going heavier than the Mini switches is something I'm super excited about. :/

I really appreciate your open-minded approach to the polling rate issue. It is extremely difficult to have this conversation in the custom community because most replies seem to deflect the question in general and question your motivations for asking about performance. Many enthusiasts refuse to acknowledge that customs simply don't always measure up to prebuilts in response time and just write off these claims as marketing nonsense despite evidence from sites like RTings that clearly demonstrate the difference in performance with video evidence.
@goodluck4037
@goodluck4037 2 жыл бұрын
Customs are better bar none. These prebuilts in keebs are no different than Mfgs selling over priced PCs that perform worse than what can built solo for the same price point. Whats the real world case that razer product out performs a custom? How does that real world case translate to razer keeb being better?
@garrett6389
@garrett6389 2 жыл бұрын
@@goodluck4037 Real world case would be I press a key and my keystroke registers faster than yours. Why make an objectively worse product because it's "good enough" as is? That makes no sense to me as a consumer when I spend $1k on a keyboard that doesn't process input as quickly as a $200 Apex Pro. Why go to such great lengths to perfect every single detail of the aesthetic, typefeel and acoustics of a keyboard just to arbitrarily neglect response time and gaming performance because it's "not important"? If you really cared about making the best keyboard you humanly could it would seem to me every aspect of your product should be pushing the limit of current tech and design.

About the polling rate, i got the hutsman v2 tkl a couple weeks ago and used it at 1000hz the first days because i did not think 8khz would make any difference and in the software it says 8khz can cause lower fps in games. Then I tried out 8khz and it did not impact fps in a measureable way. And the lower latency actually made a noticebale difference when timing mouse clicks with keyboard key presses for example when rocket jumping. I wouldn't be able to tell what's better, but 1khz and 8khz definitely feel a bit different, when i switch from one to the other i mess up all my rocket jumps for a while until i get used to the new timing. You probably won't notice a difference when walking around normally in a game or activating abilities. The latency difference is way too small compared to the whole system latency.

these huntsman boards are pretty decent value relative to the competition. but i still think these big brand gaming boards are too pricey for the quality they offer. the k100 kills me for its price, i can't believe they did that i still take issue with razer being wacky for the sport of it, though. the weird stabilizers that are inexplicably difficult for the user to access despite being plate mount. the switches not being swappable despite optical being inherently hotswap. the per-key stabilizers i know the market for this board doesn't care, but it's easier for me to recommend boards that are easy to fix on the chance that one day you do start caring. that's just what i think good review as always! was super excited for this one. oh yeah, and props for not going too deep into the latency thing. i think it's a super difficult to verify and potentially very misleading marketing trend at the moment

For someone who is just starting to mod my first hot-swap keyboard, my only gripe with the whole custom keyboard is the switches. So far I only changed my keycaps, bought a few cool puddings and dye-sub caps, they are not hard to understand. But for fuck's sake, nobody can seem to get it together with switches' terms, naming conventions, types/variants, and the biggest offender; feel. Say I wanna upgrade the brown switches that came with the board with ones that it lubed, dampened, and consistent. Tried searching for a lubed tactile switches and I get headaches just reading names and brands. Don't know why I rant in a video about a Razer keyboard when I have no interest in them nor the brand, but Brian's first sentences reminded me of that.

Or u could just read more and figure it out. Your whole post sounds like a cringe pity me fest. The whole point of custom keeb is to find what u like and make what u want. If you expected it to be easy get a pos pre-built off the shelf

Don't agree that "sound" is a basic fundamental of keyboards. Most people outside the custom community couldn't care less about how their keyboard sounds

The signal processing on your motherboard would probably take longer than 0.25ms It's not as simple as multiplying polling rate by another number to get latency.

Great stuff as always Bryan. Looks like keyboard nerds have a lot more to look up to these days.

Optical switches are dime a dozen and gateron makes some quite solid ones. Standard form factor too so lubing and filming do the same thing that they do in standard MX style switches. At $150, I don't see the value here unless you really like Razer and 8k poling rate means something important to you.

Razer optical switches in the original te are slightly faster than the mini. Less actuation and no frills for all the people who complainted about key press. Nothing in the way. I personally enjoy the sound of the original te and my triple edits are never as fast on other boards. I'm crazy I know but I traded my apex pro tkl for the huntsman te strictly for speed and I won't look back.

Which razer keyboard is better then this one? I require razer's hypershift tech so that I can set secondary keybinds to all my main keys to make leaning while strafing, precise weapon switching, etc, possible. Huntsman v2 tkl looks to be their best gaming keyboard.
