Really appreciate the brush clearing saw videos. Not as many out there.

Best thing I've learn from my mentor who did this for about 50 years is that it's best to use a guide for the angle and more importantly keep between 10 and 15 degrees between the file and the blade plane, never perpendicular. Best of luck out there fellas🙏

Cold you do a bit of a close up as your running your file across the blade showing both angles. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. GOD BLESS you and your family.

I swear I felt like I was watching an old SNL skit. Too funny!!!! It also made me think of the attorney in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" that couldn't get his words out. I'm honestly not meaning to sound like an ass, I just honestly loved the video and it honestly made me laugh. AND, I learned how to sharpen my blade.

Good video but there are other ways of accomplishing the same task, I like to use a vice I leave my best tools and files at the vice, the vice holds the blade tight and square in both directions, I usually have 4 blades on the go at one time and I take all blades with me when I go thinning, I use the methods you use in the field if necessary but normally it is faster to change the blade to a sharp blade and then continue. One thing that you did not mention was filing the blade with a flat file on the flat side of the cutting edge once your blade gets filed a few times you need to bend it back to the tool angle and file the flat on the outer edge and then sharpen, doing all of this is smoother in the vice and I have a light there as well and it is the same standing position all the time. I also started with a Husqvarna about 30 years ago and now have a few Stihls to do the trimming. I also have bought a Bush Hog Squealer a brush cutter that connects to the 3 point hitch on the tractor it is much better production with the bush hog than the bush saw. When I was younger I used the spacing saw more now it is used to rim where the bush hog cannot easily get to like close to the tree stumps. These tools are not for the faint of heart you will get your work out and it is better to use these spacing/thinning saws in the fall or winter (cooler weather) Happy trail cutting.

Did you know that the black fastening nut on your file handle indicates the proper filing angle (at least for chainsaw chains)?

Simeon, do you use the recommended 7/32" file that's recommended or go smaller? I notice that the 7/32" file doesn't leave the "hook" on the tooth.

You still should take the blade of which is not much work and put it in a vise when you are not out in the wood for a more constant angle when fileing for you are doing it freehand anyway which isn't to accurate and it is even more important when you are resetting the shank (schränken)

Just a week ago here in Ohio I saw a man/boy cutting his grass with what looked to be a 4 or 5 year old child walking behind him and his mower. What he didn't understand was a child's eyes/head is closer to the ground and more at risk to any thing the mower may hit and toss out from under it. If the child was to be hurt by his neglect I would hope he would be charged with Child Endangerment.

At 9 I saw a girl get an eye put out with a rock and at 10 one of my best friends lost both his legs while cutting grass on a hill. So watching out for children, mine or someone else's is something I think we all should do!
