Make sure you keep an eye on it if you are doing it for the first time and you're using lower cost budget rims. I had someone report it melted the rims for them. I was told the rims didn't touch the liquid either. I've done Tamiya and Schumacher rims myself with no issues but with so many rims being made all over the place, you take your chances as a grown adult.

During the winter season I do this a lot. 2 sets of tyres for three cars on one weekend. I just drop them straight into the acetone. I never ever had anything melt, get soft or be destroyed. Including foams. However only on new stuff, my top force rims being the exception. I use ammo cans to do this, they work brilliantly.

Just make sure you run a test as some plastics work fine and some car react.

Acetone will completely destroy ABS plastic based wheels. Only good for nylon wheels

I use Team Orion D- Fuse CA debonder and works perfectly to remove tires from wheels , just put it on and the cyano acrylic glue debonds and the tire comes of and this happens after a few seconds / minutes , it's perfectly safe for tires and rims and your own skin

But what (if anything) does it do paint? In other words, painted wheels that didn't come 'painted' from the factory? EDIT: Every o/l retailer reports it as "discontinued". Can't even purchased directly. However, other manufacturers, incl Bob Smith Industries, have their own versions.

There are other special products that are specific for debonding glue from tires, specific hobby products and similar to the Team Orion CA Debonder, just have to look it up, but i would never use ACETON.... the word itself... if it is harmfull for the skin....

Excellent advice there Gavin,👍 I'm interested in the long term were the tyres or wheels affected by the acetone? I made a silly mistake and I'm currently looking to remedy it. I used Super glue to lock the 5 tiny screws and nuts on beadlock Tamiya Hornet/ Grasshopper/ frog wheels. Unfortunately I made a dumb mistake of having the inside centre reversed so now the wheelnuts are on the outside and the screw heads are inside against the stub axle. Have you got any ideas on how to dissolve the glue without hurting the wheel plastic please Gavin? I think maybe the acetone won't be good for the wheel plastic but maybe your technique shown in this video might work? Thanks again for a great channel at RCkicks 👍💪

Unfortunately, Tamiya rims get soft and deformed with this method. What worked is to boil the tires and rims and remove the tire from the rim as the glue gets soft

Certain plastics get affected by this yeah think it's abs plastic that essentially melts while nylon is perfectly safe, so you'd have too research that.

Need this trick hard to remove small wheels with small rims. For my kyosho dodge charger rc.

WD40 also works good at removing CA glue. The problem is that WD40 also will “eat” or melt certain types of plastic. WD40 can work pretty fast but the longer you soak it, the better it works but with the catch that it can chemically react to certain plastic.
