Dana K White of aslobcomesclean... declutters the linen closet . . . again. It's reality (in her home) that a once decluttered space will again become cluttered and messy, so re-decluttering is a thing. And a necessity. Book: aslobcomesclean...

What I love about your videos is that you're not striving for perfection, matching baskets & cricket made labels. That in itself is overwhelming. Love it! Thank you.

Thank you for emphasizing that it's okay to declutter imperfectly. I just decluttered my dining room and it is about 500% better than it was before. But I haven't yet gone through the cabinets thoroughly. I just got the obvious stuff, and I was fretting about it, because I have no intention of doing that completely thorough prune until I've tackled some of the other badly cluttered spots in my home. So it could be a while. A long while, since I have a bedroom, an office, a living room, a laundry room, a workshop, a family room, and a would-be guest room that I want to do rough decluttering on before I circle back to do more fine tuning on my dining room and my kitchen. Now I feel reassured that that's okay! :D

Yes!!! This is exactly how I am tackling my house! Every room is in need of decluttering. I started small, with the easy stuff. And I did initial "decluttering/downsizing", knowing that any progress is still progress! I'm "building my decluttering muscles" so I can have a clean-ER, more manageable and inviting home, and gain momentum to do more and make better decisions on "round 2"

This video has stayed in my memory the most, just seeing you wave your hand and take a deep breath and confess to the overwhelmed feeling. That is so me, except I wasn't honest with myself and would shut down and run to the TV or computer or food or other distractions. You showed me I wasn't alone or weird. Just normal run-of-the-mill overwhelmed and dysfunctioning. Thank you.

Oh my!! This is hilarious!! I JUST decluttered my linen closet space two days ago!! I donated two garbage bags full of stuff! We had lots of mismatched linens! Using your container idea told me that my kitchen towel drawer only held four. I have one hanging by the sink and typically one hanging on the stove door handle. So we just took them to the donation box today!! Thanks SO much for sharing!!❤️

I like to buy all white towels so that they can be bleached when they get dingey or stained. I have enough plus a few extras that are more or less matching . When they become ragged I donate them all to the animal shelter and replace them all when they go on sale. I fold them all the same so they are very neat. My dishes were bought at Correll outlet store and I only bought dinner plates , larger cereal bowls plus some serving bowls because that is all I really use. I don't need the other pieces that come in a set. I got rid of all the odd glassware and plastic cups and replaced them with simple glasses that are sturdy and easy to replace. It did cost a little to get rid of the old and replace it with new but everything is uniform in size and stacks well and there is so much less clutter taking up room.

I'm not organized but I LOOVE to clean and get organized. It just never stays that way. And you nailed it with getting distracted. I'll start (I pull everything out) and then i'm like, "awwwww my old journals. How about I spend the next 3 hours reading them and texting my friends and reminiscing" ughhhh. Then my son comes and needs to eat and then he wants to watch Power Rangers and then everything gets thrown into my closet :(

I have been binge watching Dana's videos. I liked this one as a place to start: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsungrWGrpvbiKs.html She said start with what you see. Don't start in place that you don't see the difference, ie closets, cubbys , basement, attic, etc. Start with the coffee table, start with the shelf of the China cabinet, start with the top of the desk. Start with surfaces where things just accumulate. If you start with what you can't see then it is easy to get discouraged and down because you don't see the progress.

You often say, "and this will always be a problem for me." I think it would be better to say something else or nothing at all. When I catch others saying something like this I make them restate it as "this USED to be a problem for me", "I used to do that all the time". I totally understand that you need to let us know that you are still in the struggle with us and that you have traits that seem to have worked against you in the past. No need to change anything. I just don't want listeners to think they should be saying that something "will ALWAYS be a PROBLEM for ME" to themselves. It's almost a joke for me and my friends/co-workers when I say "I used to do that" (about something I just did one second ago). Anyway, Love you; love your followers!

A great tip I heard somewhere: for sets of sheets and/ or duvet cover, fold them and put them in the pillow case, makes for easy storage. If the sheets/cover can be folded small, fold the pillow case over, makes for easy storage.

Hi... I thought I would offer that sometimes that second mattress cover could come in handy if you had a child that was ill or had an accident in the middle of the night.... You can put on the first mattress cover against the mattress, put on your fitted sheet then put on your second mattress protector and fitted sheet from the set you are going to dress your bed with and make the bed as usual... Now if something happens in the middle of the night you tear off the soiled one and your child can be cleaned up quickly and be back to bed while you either deal with the mess right away or go back to bed yourself... Hope that helps.. Just found your channel... Thanks for the great ideas, Dana.... :)

I’ve started watching your videos and I have finally found someone who thinks like I do. Thank you and God Bless You for putting up, “A Slob Come’s Clean “ because one of the main things that keeps me from getting my house clean is the guilt that I let it get this bad to begin with. I re declutterd our linen closet as well. We have a king size bed and our 7 yo daughter has a king size bed as well. I got rid of her old bedding and got her a new king set minus the flat sheet she hates them). I also put the extra bedding (we ONLY have two sets per bed minus the flat sheet we hate them) in the plastic zippered bags they came in. They are even labeled on the bag even though they are clear bags. It helps keep them clean and dust off of them. I did that because our daughter has allergies and asthma so this definitely helps. I even declutterd a TON of personal care products. I even donated two contractor bags to a charity. I hate knick knacks but I actually do love to clean and organize. How we had this much stuff is beyond me!

I just found your videos and have watched several. I've watched tons of other people's decluttering videos. I REALLY appreciate you going through your things, decluttering, and showing all of the difficult moments and exactly what to do to get through them. I haven't found detail like that anywhere else. Also, I very much appreciate your techniques that I haven't seen anywhere else either. Like not messing the whole room or house up while decluttering a space. And no keep boxes. I have so many of those that it didn't help to make and I now must go through which is overwhelming. But, now I can imitate you taking deep breathes and saying those reasonings, going through the emotions instead of using them down or away and accomplishing! I like that you say it's ok if it's just a little I get done. It's progress! Awesome! Thanks to you, I can start on my amazing masses of clutter without being overwhelmed by dread pulling me down and paralyzing. I can be free! I am so excited! Thank you so much for all the time and effort it took/takes to make these videos. You're a Godsend.

Loved your comment, " it is better." I have a book shelf that was bothering me. Letting go of books is hard for me. I took a few books off the shelf that I have not read for years and it looks better. (By years I mean like 20 plus years ago) does any one remember Men are from Mars women are from Venus? ) It was all the rage in the mid 90's. Now my books shelf looks better!! Loved your comment on not doing it perfectly but less and noticing that it looks better. I have never been a slob and have always recognized limits on the amount of stuff that can fit in a space but this helped me because neatly putting away stuff that you dont need isn't good either. I have been minimizing for the past year and my house looks the same but when you open drawers and cabinets it looks better and feels better. Yeah!! That overwhelming feeling I do understand. Even people who are not slobs have areas where we feel overwhelmed. We just hide the places we have been afraid to tackle better. 🤣 So thank you !!

This video helped me understand him better, because he has the same anxiety reactions that you displayed in the video. It also helped me because It motivated me to get going on areas in my home. Thank you so much for being real and for posting this video. Also, if you roll your blankets, like you do your towels, they're so easy to fit them in a small space and it's easy. I got some pins to use to fasten cloth to my two living room chairs and hassock. So I'm going to use one of my extra full sheet sets to do that. Then I'll have a new look for fall & winter. It would be nice if there was a rule that told us how long we should keep a gift, and at what point we can let it go. It would be nice if people were not so invested in the stuff they give us that they need to see that we are using it. It would be nice if we weren't so sentimental that we keep things just because "so and so gave it to me." I think these are all problems we face when trying to declutter.

Yes, that's true, and I agree. How long is appropriate to keep a gift that you really don't want?

I can relate! I do some kon mari folding. Once I started a few years ago I've stayed with it - but not for everything. Underwear, towels, sheets and linens look super neat. Clothes not so much. Each piece comes out folded differently.

I can soooo relate to you and the organizational challenges that you face. It made me feel better, as I often face similar obstacles. As I watch your videos, I realize that I'm only human and I'm not perfect, no one is. And that I need to keep reminding myself, keep going, and not give up. 😊

The comments you make always make me laugh!! I have trouble folding large things too (it doesn't help that I'm short). I now have only one set of sheets. The main reason was because I just have no storage space (small apt and no linen closet), but never having to fold them has been great!

I am short here too, I'm 5ft 2 and it's a bit annoying at times because I have to use step stools to reach my shelves in closets and the kitchen cabinets and like you said folding large items is a bit of a challenge. Ugh.

Dana, I don't know if you still read comments on old videos, but... I thought I was the only one who shoved the sheets into a pillow case. That is literally how I've been storing them for years. Recently I've been trying to do better and from the videos about fold that I've watched, I've noticed that no matter what the method, folding in thirds (at least the last fold) always make it look so much neater than if it's just folded in half. I've been trying to keep it up... we'll see if it lasts. Thanks for your realness!

Lol, I laughed so hard @ your 2nd attempt at your closet. Thx for the laugh! .. I actually love folding & organizing 'when' i actually attempt it... My salvation is being somewhat of a minimalist. .. I also found that I have to be more simple than than all the great ideas --> i do a "5 item clean-up" all throughout the day. This seems to be working well, especially with large piles.

When i look at overwhelming areas, or boring 'to do' places --> it's very helpful to say that I'm going to grab only '5 things' to put away, then i can go do something fun again. Usually I do more than 5 things, and after a few days, the momemtum of what is cleaned up, really kicks in.
