16:15 - I think the noticeable dip in viewers after Asom's reaction may've also occurred for another reason. You have that huge spike on the day he reacts, and sure those newcomers may subscribe and drop a like, but they're not sticking around to watch the video again - they've already seen it. As a result, it tanks the video's average watch time, which is a major factor (potentially the most important factor) KZfaq's algorithm uses to determine which videos to recommend. But hey, that's just a theory. Loved the video btw, keep it up!
@adroxorz
@adroxorz Жыл бұрын
I understand what you are saying in terms of viewer numbers and algorithms, however due to the way Asmon engages the content(transformative) with insights and opinion based rhetoric, the amount of times he pauses to articulate his pov, it robs the continuity and some people hate that and just watch the OP content for an uninterrupted viewing.

Yeah it feels random at times. One of the videos that did better than usual I did years ago was just because the game I was covering had a big update and I was in a spot in the game to show it off. Something I noticed recently with the algorithm: I'll watch a video from 3 years ago. Now I'm being recommended many videos (of differing content) from 3 years ago. I'll watch a video from a creator with 5000 or less subs, now I'm being recommended lots of videos from channels with 'low' sub counts. The way it works is weird man. It really tries to define your tastes not just by content you watch but even the time frame or sub count.

Musicians are everywhere, good ones, really good ones, it comes down to more than just skill and self promoting. If you don't play the game/find and meet the right people you'll never make it. As someone who watches reaction videos often and enjoys them I would like to give a prospective from a viewer. I believe reaction content is the pinnacle of parasocial content. If you are bored and want to watch something, a reaction video is perfect content to watch with your favorite content creator. I'm about to blow some people's minds with this one but most of the videos featured in reaction videos I would NOT WATCH on my own. The reaction turns the video into something I wouldn't care about into something I could think about with my selected streamer/youtuber. Reaction videos are perfect for busy people that want to feel at least a little like they have someone to talk and listen too. As sad as that sounds, many people find it hard to make friends or experience adequate time with friends as everyone seems to be so busy nowadays. TLDR: Reaction videos have a place on KZfaq and Twitch for their ability to provide the viewer with a sense of friendship even if it is fake, as well as review on the videos being reacted to. PS: This only applies to reactionary content that provides at least some additional value. I'm aware there are some reaction videos that don't provide anything besides reuploading the video.

@achannel6324
@achannel6324 Жыл бұрын
@@solame10101 To answer your question quickly, Is react streamers a net loss or gain. Small creator needs exposure, to get in algorithm, beneficial having big streamers viewers subscribing to channel, gets the small creator into algorithm. Bigger creators care a lot about algorithm presence, since they already in it, they care about retained viewership and growth, react streamer exposure means very little when already popular, have to compete in algorithm against duplicate videos in recommended tab likely actually significant net loss potential views on original video since viewers rarely rewatch the original once they saw favorite streamer react to entire original video. Long explanation If a large react streamer or youtuber is reacting to a small channel, it's a net positive for that small creator easily, as a small channel Is just trying to gain traction in the algorithm the exposure is meaningful. Bigger channels don't really stand to gain much from react streamers, sure they may get like a couple hundred subs from exposure, when the creators channel has a lot of subs already this is unnoticeable, I would argue a big channel would actually see this as competing with a duplicate videos, which can take a spot in your recommended page, which could potentially be the original video or the big react streamers reaction to original. Some extra things to consider, to why a bigger content creators are worse off, having their videos re uploaded with facecam. React content rarely translates to views on the original video, there is little incentive to rewatch the original video, once said viewer has seem their favorite react streamer react to the original video in its entirety, there isn't anything new that the original video has to offer, yes the viewer may decide to rewatch the original video with no reactions, its obviously a very tiny portion, of the react videos total viewers migrating to watch the original video. Additionally, Its worth mentioning, often the react streamers will just yoink the thumbnail of the original video, slap their face on the corner of said thumbnail, this could lead to some confusion to the viewer, said viewer may think its the original video, since the react streamers thumbnail is very similar to the original thumbnail. Potential Improvement? I have heard people propose a revenue sharing policy on youtube for react content, so the react youtubers would have to share their monetization with the owner of said content, I personally think it is a ok solution, as at least the original creator actually benefits directly from their content being used. If you read all that I'm surprised.

I'd argue it should be 70/30 (Original/Reactor), since the ratio of time investment to create the content is at least 20:1

@@daasdingo This will lead to no one reacting cuz if you told me I would lose my paycheck if I took out my smart phone during work. I wouldn’t be taking out my smart phone anymore. This seems to be only an issue with asmongold/fine bros now that the we react on stream to videos and eat while watching meta has died. The best way for KZfaq to resolve this is to give priority to the original video by enforcing a react policy where people need to tag react videos. So only people who have watched the original video get recommended reactions.

While I do think there should be some amount of revenue sharing, I think it should also be variable depending on the reactor. For example, if a reactor is just watching the video on their channel but doesn't add any insight/nuance/commentary whatsoever, the original creator should get 100% because the reactor essentially just put their face over part of the video. But, if you are adding commentary, creating more discussion, etc, it gets murkier and that's where the variability comes in.

This was good. I rarely see anyone talking about reacting content. I subscribe to one chronic-reactor but I usually just check for the original link in his description if the video is good. I think the idea of revenue sharing is an excellent one. It is kind of crazy that react streamers can make millions off just commenting on videos that likely took days if not weeks of work. Revenue sharing allows them to basically pay to watch your video and use it for their own exposure (thats something you didnt mention/talk about is the fact that these react streamers wont become popular if they dont find good videos to react to, so it goes both ways regarding visibility). Really enjoyed the content!
@roasted9095
@roasted9095 Жыл бұрын
No, it's not. There is no intellectual property in words like this video which is, in fact, a criticism. Why would I must pay a fee to criticize a criticism ? As long as you go through this format anyone should be able to react even if it's mean making a full retake in a video, that way, you can't monopolize the platform against the others by just words but the most important thing here is that it simply allows this video to exist whitout fees, claims or w/e itself. So yes, reactor are totaly legit for this format and what they do is just fair use, period.
@1mclv
@1mclv 5 ай бұрын
@@roasted9095sure, how about you construct criticism after watching the video: -Watch the full video alone -Make a list about what you want to criticize/emphasize. -Construct your argument against or in favor about the video. -Create an entertaining script that goes along your argument. -Select the necessary clips for the video. -Record your response/react video. -Post your video. If you go watching the video for the first time in front of an audience, what's most likely going to happen is that you'll misinterpreet some points due to not having heard the whole argument, which if you watch reaction streamers, you'll quickly realize that this is what almost always happens. Streamers that "react" to a live audience have no original content to entertain their audience with, just look at Hasan. He sits there eating without talking or even sometimes leaves videos playing while he goes to do some other thing, if there would be no video to babysit his audience, they would just leave. Also imagine this, if the video is available at KZfaq, sharing just the time stamp of where the streamer is currently at, should be enough. No need to show the video in full display.

These are very sensible solutions and I hope something is implemented in this vein. It has never sat well with me that the video creator puts in hours or days or even weeks of work and a reactor puts in the time that it takes to watch it and often (even usually) gets way more views while also preventing some amount of future original video views from taking place. Barny64's Scarab Lord series of videos is one of the egregious examples, as those videos have more effort and story than many films but fewer views than the "reaction version". It's not right.

I always wanted to make a web app that provides this service, basically you can record a reaction, with pauses, or whatever you want, and then it will just play as an optional track, on the video. I think 80/20 to the reactor is fair. not because the reactor does more work. but mainly because the og creator will already benefit a lot from multiple people reacting. 5 popular youtubers with 3 million views each, watch your video. it gets counted to your video, you have 15 million views (suddenly you will get add deals no problem) you get 20% of those views paid, so you will end up with a nice amount anyway. It basically still provides that massive incentive for react channels to exist, but you get more than just "exposure"

I honestly think 50/50 is more reasonable. At the end of the day, Asmon subscribers are not watching his reacts to MadSeason's videos because they like MadSeason's videos, they are doing it more so because they are fans of Asmon. I would say revenue sharing is a terrible model to begin with (whether for reacts or music) because it's hard to judge just how much of the views and ad revenue is due to 1 creator vs another. I would say the model of double-counting the views is probably the best one.
@JoeSmith-lo2ct
@JoeSmith-lo2ct Жыл бұрын
@@PeterDB90 I would nott agree and here is why. First lets begin by recognizing the value of original content. In your statement, you highlighted that subscribers watch reaction videos primarily because they are fans of the reactor (Asmon, in this case). This might be true, but it overlooks the fact that without original content (MadSeason's videos in this context), there would be no material for Asmon to react to. The original content creator invests significant time, effort, and sometimes financial resources into producing content. This can include scriptwriting, filming, editing, creating graphics, music licensing, etc. This whole process demands a certain level of skill, knowledge, and creativity, making original content a highly valuable asset. In contrast, react videos, while requiring their own skills and creativity, lean heavily on the content they are reacting to. They're not generating entirely new content but instead offering commentary and opinions. While this adds value and attracts viewers, it's still fundamentally different from creating original content. As such, a 50/50 split might not adequately compensate the original content creator for their significant investment. A more equitable model could be a higher percentage for the original content creator, acknowledging their creative labor and investment.
@PeterDB90
@PeterDB90 Жыл бұрын
@@JoeSmith-lo2ct I disagree and here is why: I agree with the premise of what you are saying, but you should not be looking at who gets more revenue based on amount of effort and work - this is a "fair" division of revenue when looked at from the point of labor input, but it is NOT a fair division of revenue when you look at WHO generated that revenue. I think an argument can be made for let's plays being glorified reacts to original content that was made by the devs that made said game, but you don't see people advocating for video game publishers getting their "fair share" of revenue from streamers for creating the BULK of the content that the streamer/let's play KZfaqr receives their revenue from, and trust me - they would jump at the opportunity (I wouldn't be surprised if they already did try and it fell off as an unpopular opinion). Yes, without MadSeason's videos, Asmon wouldn't have anything to react to IN THAT PARTICULAR instance, but the truth is that he WOULD have something to react to and would still generate millions of views - it doesn't have to be MadSeason's videos, it could be ANY other video - heck, he could probably react to an old video of his own and still get millions of views. He often times simply has a discussion over literally any topic - say Twitch changing it's policy - and post a video on it that was just as low effort as the reaction video but still generates similar views - should he have to receive less revenue because it was low-effort? What I'm saying is that like it or not, the amount of effort does not matter - there are plenty of KZfaqrs putting in incredible effort into channels that never end up growing - no one cheated them, they simply didn't play the algorithm correctly. So what does matter? The view you generate. If you can show that the views he generated would have otherwise gone to MadSeason if Asmon didn't react to his video, then you can make a case for it, but as it stands Asmon a) generates views and revenue based on his brand recognition and clickbaiting and b) does not steal view from MadSeason, and if anything adds to them. This is why double-counting views would be the BEST solution because MadSeason's Channel would get 100% of the exposure benefit and can then use said exposure to generate revenue natively on his own channel.

I think a talk about react channels is incomplete without talking about Jinx. He was the original react Andy and was bullied off YT for “just watching someone else’s video and only adding their reaction to what’s in the video.” IMO since he was the first, he was attacked the most. He legit crawled through broken glass so the rest could run. It’s important to note so people can see how the “main stream” view of react Andy content went from hated to the new norm.
