There is so much meaning in so much of the choreo. I don't want to overwhelm you with all of it, but there is one big one I want to point out. If you watch the Lie live performance, you'll see the same lift towards the end of the choreo, but he DOESN'T escape the hold it has on him. He doesn't escape the lie. I honestly burst into tears at the end the first time I watched when they did that lift and drop because he finally FINALLY was able to break through the lie. I'm immensely proud of him. Not just for the album, which is excellent, but also for the work he put into himself to get to this point where he's accepted himself and says f you all if you don't like it.

When this song first came out...kpop stans were really going at it... hating it for the use of autotune and whatnot. But as any music lover (ARMY or not) would tell you, the song is an absolute masterpiece. The instrumentals... the visuals... the vocals... the stylistic use of autotune... the choreography... everything. SMFP2 will go down in history as one of those iconic songs that rookies and idols will try to replicate for years to come... and will never be able to do justice to. Jimin had the tendency to do that. He did it with Lie too. He's called 'The Rookie Bible' for a reason. For someone so smol, he's such a powerhouse performer. RM was right, he's an axis... who knows how to make himself the centre of every stage.

Love this reaction 💜 His whole 'FACE' album is absolutely amazing and tells a really touching story. Jimin said it's about the emotions he felt and experiences he had during the pandemic in chronological order. Some of it is heart breaking, raw and explicit, but also empowering. It contains themes like loneliness, escapism, drinking, ending relationships, getting used by other people, but also breaking free from all of that, finding himself and becoming a stronger person. I'm so thankful he gave us such an intimate view into himself, and it will always be one of my favourite albums. Here's some information about the songs: Face-off: This song has a lot of anger. Jimin explained that relationships are difficult and hard to maintain. During the pandemic, he broke off with some people because he got to see their true colours and realised, that they only used him for who he is. Unfortunately, he also blamed himself for it, saying he shouldn’t have trusted them. He mentions drinking because he didn't want to be sober to deal with all of it (lyrics: “tonight I don’t wanna be sober, pour it up it’s all fu****g over”). It could also be interpreted as a face-off with himself like trying to get rid of traces he doesn't accept in himself. Like Crazy: Jimin said it's about the time he lost himself in escapism to cope during the pandemic. He didn't realise (or didn't want to accept) he wasn't doing fine and just tried to push back and avoid all the bad emotions and things by going out, having fun, drinking, and staying in this ‘dream reality’ (as you can her in the lyrics "don't try to save me, I wanna stay in this dream”). But at the end of the day, he came back home, being alone again. After that period, he realised he wasn't okay, like "wait, what am I even doing?" and came to the realization he wasn't simply having fun but actually just escaping his problems, loneliness and pain. It's a very sensual song which can be interpreted in many ways. Jimin said it was inspired by one of his favourite movies called 'Like Crazy', which deals with a very realistic break up of a couple. Alone: In ‘Alone’ he realises he wasn’t doing okay before. It’s like finally waking up from that dream. He talks about how lonely he actually feels, and he doesn’t know how and when the pain will end. He’s trying not to show anyone in how much pain he’s in, but he feels pathetic pretending to be fine all the time. Although he says everything will get better, he doesn’t actually believe in it (lyrics: “It’s gonna be alright. Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie …”) Set me free pt. 2: This song is Jimin finally breaking free from all that he suffered from. He’s unapologetically going to be himself now, not caring about what anyone might say. He’s accepting the true face of himself and won’t hide himself anymore, even if it hurts. All hardships have made him a different person, but he won’t forget his past self and is proud of what he has accomplished. Unfortunately, Jimin is one of the members that got the most hate. He had (and still has) to go through many things. This is a very powerful and aggressive way of showing all those people how strong he has become and that he won't listen to them anymore. Even the instrumental is like a hymn, it just sounds so epic and empowering. Jimin finally overcame his hardships and set himself free. (Fun fact: when this song was announced, the producer said that Jimin is going to end K-pop with it. And he really did, it just blew all of our minds.) Sorry for the long comment, I’m just very passionate about Jimin’s music. Hope this helped :)

Jimin was my first Bias - Dope was my first exposure to BTS and immediately I had to know more about the long-legged stunning redhead. And still today, he can make me quit breathing with his artistry and beauty. FACE, his solo album, is the essence of Jimin and just as ambiguous and dynamic. I guess you can tell I remain as infatuated as the first time I saw him.

The poetry on his body is deep. I love that he did something so meaningful and artistic.

Set me free is a song by Agust D on his second mixtape D-2 and it's thematically similar to Jimins song. He even wanted to feature Yoongi on it or let him write some of it but he decided that the album is too personal. The song is about finally overcoming his depression during the pandemic and setting himself free from all of those feelings (see his words in the behind the scenes of this MV). You can see the feeling of being trapped in the choreography, where the dancers often surrond him, try to close in on him, point at him and even try to bury him at the end but then they lift him up, which symbolises him finally overcoming when he is in the white outfit. You can also see it in the way the camera moves often circling around him and how the set is designed in a circular shape that is "like a prison" (see again the behind the scenes). Even the song sounds like he is talking to himself where the autotune is used to symbolise the different voices that collide in his head. Haha same girl 🙈😂Jimin shirtless is a treat. Like the members said he only puts clothes on to take them off. The Bangtan shirtless era started in chapter 2 (so 2022) and hasn't stopped since. (though Jimin in particular went completely shirtless on camera once before at the 2014 MAMA when he was 19) Funfact: You can see a couple of his real tattoos if you look closely. At 1:57 his NEVERMIND across his ribs (inspired by a Suga song), at 4:43 his 13 on his wrist (13th October is his birthdate, 13th June 2013 is BTS' debut date and it's his favourite number) and at 5:20 the top of the moonphases down his back (he got the first moon on his neck and then Tae showed him fanart of them down his back so he got them) Also it was really surprising to hear him swear in his music for the first time, because before that it was only the rapline, in their solo and BTS songs, that did. Jimin's duality is insane. Other ARMYs can verify this. I was caught off guard when I first saw this video because I wasn't expecting Jimin to swear. But I freaking love it. In his documentary about this song, Jimin said he asked for the dancers to get a choreography he couldn't dance to. He also said he wasn't aware that some of the dancers had actually hit their heads on the floor during that part of the routine until afterward.

I LOVE this song!! However, Jimin got a lot of hate from kpop fans and haters (I don't know why they care so much lol) for using an autotune when ALL artists in the world use it including their faves lol. Anyway, BTS don't use autotune to enhance their voices, it's actually the opposite. They use it to distort their voices or in an artistic way to convey the darker image/message of the song. But yeah, I guess their violent reactions were like a testament of how good was this song.

"Set Me Free" is an Agust D song from Yoongi's first mixtape. It is beautiful and kind of haunting both vocally and musically. Jimin felt like it dealt with similar themes as his song, so he decided to call it "Part 2" to call back to Yoongi's original. They'll talk about it a little in Suchwita. This song took a bit to grow on me, but the choreo + song work together so well to tell a story. What else would one expect from a dancer like Park Jimin, I guess! 😀Vocally I enjoy the live performances more because Jimin ad libs a lot and it sounds less electronic, which I prefer, but I get the style choice and both he and his dancers killed it! It's like they're summoning something, or performing a ritual. It is one of my favorite choreos from any of them, ever.

Sorry, this is long, but I do hope you read it, if you are interested: In an interview with Jimin: When the track list of the album was revealed, many noticed that the prerelease single was designated as “pt. 2” despite the fact that Jimin doesn’t have any existing song to his name titled “Set Me Free”. He confirmed that it’s a nod to a track on bandmate Suga’s second mixtape, D2. “There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide one or two parts,” he explains. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and Suga’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.” Personally, I loved this song except the auto-tune part when I first heard it but now, I love it. When BTS use auto-tune like in this, in a very distinct way, it usually has a deeper meaning. It connects to their album called Map of the Soul 7 album which is inspired by the Carl Jung Theory of Persona, Shadow, and Ego. Each of these (Persona, Shadow, Ego) are also solo BTS songs on the album that explain their perspective of what those mean in correlation too with the psychology theory. The shadow is something that we have a hard time with, trails, temptations, as well as things that if people knew about you would shame you or "cancel" you so to speak, etc. So, you will hear him "battling" the shadow/auto tune with his clear voice...If you listen to Shadow (the song by Suga), you will also understand better what I meant too... The 9/6 formation: Also, the 6 or 9 shape (depending on which way you flip it) that the dancers make and Jimin is dancing in the circle until he gets to the middle. That structure is called Fibonacci sequence. It has a lot of mathematical meaning that I honestly can't write very well about or understand super well, but it connects to the message of this song. I personally kind of interpret it as the line of the song that says, "fly away butterfly", because the 9 is last single number and where the numbers start all over again after, so with the lyrics he is "reborn" after the first round/way/1-9. He is reborn because at first, he is a caterpillar then eventually turns into a butterfly (which would also link to towards the end when they start coving him and fall with the Jimin wearing white emerges)... Fun Fact (credit goes to CSW7 on twitter) Jimin sings "Set Me Free" 9 times in the chorus, which made me curious what 9 means in numerology. If this wasn't intentional it's one h*ll of a coincidence. Things they looked up... 9 is the last of the single-digit numbers that play a core role in the study of numerology and is the highest ranking of the cardinal numbers. 9 is the number of wisdom and experience. As the final numeral, the number 9 symbolizes awakening and inner wisdom through life experiences and struggles. The number 9 represents a complete journey according to numerology. As the final single-digit number, 9 signifies culmination, although not the final ending. Numerology 9 is more like fulfilling one cycle and preparing for the next one. It's the number that signals the end and a beginning-because as soon as one chapter ends, a new cycle will start. So, the idea was the prisoners would be visible 24/7 in this large structure. So, while Jimin's lyrics are, "set me free", he is standing in a literal prison. This concept is now applied thinking about surveillance states (CCTV) and social media. (For the nerds this is the work of Foucault and then a bunch of social media, comms, and HCI have picked this up. The "tower" in the middle can actually be empty (self-policing by imagined guard). I could imagine two meanings as I think about it: 1. Jimin subverting the prison by being the guard (taking control) and/or 2. Jimin being his own guard as if he's being monitoring himself given his life experience and past policing from outsiders and talking control via the choreo and lyrics. ~BTS song reference that came to mind (you can choose to connect them or not) This also connects to the lyrics, "Going insane to stay sane" which are also similar lyrics to BTS song called On (which you reacted to) the lyrics are, "To remain sane, one must go insane”. I also BTS have a song called Butterfly, which I personally think it could connect to this song (There are two versions of Butterfly. The original has the rappers, but the Butterfly Prolog just has the vocalist), since it has the line "Fly away, butterfly-y-y". (P.S. is one of my absolute favorite BTS songs) BTS also has a song called Love Maze so when I read these lyrics, "I wandered into a maze...Still in a maze", form Set Me Free pt. 2, Love Maze by BTS came to mind. Some choreo reminded me of Jackson Wang song called Blow. The more i watch the more i find things i did not notice on the 1st watch. The body tat German poem is beautiful and very fitting. Heard Sienna Lalau worked on this choreo with a team. UCLA choir was used again. They use them all the time on songs. The spiral/ the golden ratio, shell, 9, metaphors used as usual. The moon series of tats on his back is real. His Nevermind tat on his ribs is real and his 13 tat on his wrist is real too. The German poem on his chest tat was temporary. Jimin also has a 7 tat bet. his fingers on one hand. He has young forever tat above his elbows and youth behind his ear. But we did not see these in this MV. Being apart from the fans really hurt him. Jimin is very kind, caring and sweet guy. He suffered a lot mentally like the others during the pandemic. They were supposed to have toured for the last time and than enlisted. But all of that got changed because of covid. Jimin is the charmer of the group. He is attractive to men and women. People were floored when they saw JHope's More. It was surprising in a way but also so on brand for JHope. Jimin, well. People are thrown off by the auto-tune which is used as an effect to show his inner dialog and opinions from others that have caged him.
