It's amazing -- even after all this time, he is as popular as ever.

John Denver was always one of those singers/songwriters everyone liked, even if his type of music wasn't really their thing. So much talent, so many hit songs. I'd bet if he was still with us, he'd be making music just as great as in the past.

Beautiful song! John Denver was a gifted singer songwriter & actor. He had so many great hits in the 70's-80's. Some of his signature songs were "Thank God I'm A Country Boy", "Grandma's Feather Bed", "Fly Away", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Back Home Again", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns. Home Free does an awesome version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads". Hope you will check it out.

This is one of the official songs adopted by the State of West Virginia. It may not be the law, but it would be UNTHINKABLE for a WV bar not to have this song on its jukebox!

My dad was born in Elwood city, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia and was a die-hard Mountaineers fan and watched a lot of their games and every time this song would play on the radio me and him would always sing along to it. He sadly passed away on August 31st 2021. Rest in peace dad.

The music critics consistently panned John Denver in their reviews, but usually they would end their bad review by saying "but the audience seemed to really enjoy the concert, from start to finish!"
@konradkanuckle59204 ай бұрын
I remember reviews in the 80's about ACDC,...before " who made who "....same exact thing, they called it a miracle they could sell out...yet I and everybody there NEVER sat in our seats!!! What do music critics know?!

You should definitely visit West Virginia, rent a side by side, probably a guide for your first time which is pretty cheap, and ride the Hatfield and McCoy trails. It's beautiful and lots of fun. It's beautiful scenery and a total blast!

West Virginia's state anthem. Do you know your state anthem? I live in Alaska. We have an anthem too. What are yours? Would love to hear them. Most folks forgot, every state has an anthem. A state bird, a flag, a chosen animal, and a flower. Do you know your's?

A ittle history of this song. John Denver did not write the song. The song was written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivett., Denver did contribute some changes. Taffy was born in Washington DC. They were married and driving on Clopper Rd in Montgomery County Maryland when the inspiration for the song came to them. I live just a few miles from Clopper Rd. Today there is a lot of development but back then it was very rural. Maryland did not fit in the lyrics so they used West Virginia.

Love John Denver. He reminds me so much of Dan Fogelberg. By the way, when are we going to get more reactions to him? You really need to check out his song called Longer.
