i just got dwarf hamsters today and we got them a small standard cage but it literally gave me a panic attack bc it’s to small but my parents said it’s the right size.

Tltr: The hamster always jumps onto the wheel and then jumps off it onto the bedding My hamster really likes jumping more than climbing,we recently got a super big wheel of Ebay because the one we bought with the cage was too small for her. We have a really big cage (floor space and height) and the wheel goes up to the 2nd floor so my hamster usually climbs on it and then jumps off the wheel, when I'm sleeping I constantly hear my hamster just jumping off it and onto the bedding.

@ItsBree it means your hamster is bored and/or stressed. You need to give it more room, bedding, toys, hideouts and other things to do. It is not normal for hamsters to climb on their roofs.

Ellie L. Well I just cleaned his cage and half of his cage has 8 inches of bedding and half has around 5 inches where his wheel, food dish, water dish, and a few toys are.

Half these hamsters probably belong to 10-year-olds who are at the mercy of their parents what kind of cages and supplies they can buy for their hamster. A mom isn't going to want to spend 100s of dollars on something the kid might lose interest in a few months, only hamster enthusiasts will do that. I've heard all this talk that bin cages are cheap but the large ones are quite expensive, plus you need the tools and extras to put it together, so get tired of hearing that

@@stitches318 As a parent who goes to great lengths to ensure our pets have suitable habitats and my son learns proper animal husbandry for all of our pets, it drives me crazy when other parents treat their kids pets like just another toy.

Originally I had the funds, and I saved up for the hamster myself, she reviewed the cage I used for the hamster, and actually managed to get a large wheel for my winter white, it wasn’t a silent spinner, so it was annoying, but anyway, it was my first pet, and I had educated myself as much as a 9/10 year old could about the topic. They lived past their average life span, and had everything they needed. I don’t think it is fair to make assumptions.. I was young and managed to completely support my hamster, and such, I wasn’t very educated at the start, but became more as I grew. In all while it was most likely dumb for such a small child to get a pet, everyone learns somewhere, and they taught me responsibility. I think if a parent knows their child can’t handle having a pet, don’t get it, but it’s just like having a cat or dog, they require time love and care. Hamsters aren’t just for adults, they can be used to help mature children (given the parents are making sure the hamster isn’t being mistreated). Okay bye :)

Hamsters are stereotypically cheap which they’re not. If you want to own a hamster you should be prepared for the cost as they are a little high maintenance. And it’s not ‘sad’, that we like to give a good life to our pets :)

The cage of a Syrian hamster (the most common pet hamster), should be at least 288 square inches in size (24 inches long by 12 inches wide).

@@kariluruiz-duran3095 I'm sorry about your fish/fishes something I have learnt from my experience from putting flower in that cage is that you can't do anything about it, you just have to improve and move on and the least guilty person there is to blame for your fishes death is you, the pet store should of told you how big the fishes tank should be and what should be in it, honestly just dont blame yourself the pet store should know how to take care of animals and know that the person taking the animal home has the right stuff for it, but ofc not bc all they care about is money and not the animals health and safety.

Awe it's okay :( unfortunately there's lots of misinformation when it comes to smaller animals. I used to have birds and I feel really sad I didn't give them better care but as long as you loved them and did your best.
