Great reaction!!! Two of my favorite comedies are What's Up, Doc (1972), starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal; and Move Over, Darling (1963), starring Doris Day and James Garner.

One of the Coen brothers' best comedies! I particularly adore Holly Hunter in this. She's adorable. I love her so mu-uu-uch! 😭😭😭 The entirety of the 'yodeling chase' is comedic perfection from start to finish, and every time John Goodman starts screaming i can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣

Indeed, Holly Hunter is magnificent in this movie. Ever since I first watched this movie - DECADES ago lol - I still say, "Turn to tha RAGHT" when the situation arises haha. And Nic Cage has the best bedhead in any movie ever made. Should have won an award just for that!

Took a date to this movie way back. It wasn't heavily promoted, so I figured the theater would be relatively empty should any hanky panky happen. But from the opening seconds we were both enthralled. My plan of romance in a dark empty theater quickly evaporated. Walking home, all we talked about was the movie. We went again the next night with all our friends in tow. My date and I are still good friends to this day. I am going to share this reaction with her. Top 5 movie in my favourites.

What a beautiful memory, thanks so much for sharing that. You make us feel like we were there with you. Definitely love this movie since it came out (I saw it pretty quickly after it was released, on cable). When I think Coen Brothers, THIS is the movie I think of, first and forever. And "Blood Simple" and "Fargo" are my other two favorites. And all three are similar: they're about crime gone wrong, and they're cartoonishly regional. Anyways, thanks for the great remembrance!

Tex Cobb/Leonard Smalls (Warthog from Hell) used to be my neighbor in Nashville in the '90's. I met him when he did "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" & episode of "Married With Children", around '93. I already knew who he was from the many classic movies he'd appeared in throughout my youth, including this, my personal favorite Nick Cage, as well as Coen Brothers movie. He was also a professional kick-boxer/boxer. I'd see him jog by my window every morning, stopping to punch trees along the way. Poor trees!😅 I'd also see him a lot at our local store on beer runs. We "knew" each other & he'd always take a minute to shoot the shit, but I never brought up Hollywood or his boxing career because I knew people bugged him all the time about it. Then heard he died, but later found out it was his son & he'd moved back to Philadelphia afterwards. Hope he's doing well. Hope you & yours are too, Dawn Marie! Best Wishes for 2023!🙏 ✌🌎❤

Too Kool! Been a fan of Randy's since he won the Heavyweight World KB Title! I remember he was on the Tonight Show w/Johnny Carson, and Johnny said it must be hard work to become world champion; Tex just came back "I'm the laziest person I know - I'll fight anybody just to keep from workin' a regular job." and Johnny just fell out laughin'!

We must have been neighbors because Tex Cobb shopped at the same grocery store I did back then. It was the Compton's Food Market on 21st, across from Brown's Dinner.

@@michaelbuhl4250 Yeah, I lived on Belmont on opposite corner of block that had the International Market, & was referring to the Circle K. He lived by Circle K still when I first met him, then he later moved down Belmont close to Wedgewood, but still got his beer at Circle K unless grocery shopping at Compton's. Belmont was real nice back then. I remember you could drive around with $75-$100 in your pocket & be able to find a place & move in on the spot! Was a whole nother world back then, as you know, old neighbor! ✌😎❤

@@satyadasgumbyji8956 I lived on Blair a couple of doors down from Brown's Dinner for a couple of years, and then I moved to Portland Ave. and lived in an apartment there for around 10 years or so. My rent on Portland was under $900 when I moved out. I can't imagine what it would be now. The people who owned the International Market were old family friends, and my college graduation present was a trip with my dad around Southeast Asia organized by them. I spent a lot of time at Bongo Java and at the Iguana when it was still around. I went to that Circle K quite often.

I grew up in Arizona. The state was filled up with people from the rest of the country, so doesn't have a regional accent. Doctors commonly sent their patients there because they thought the climate was very healthy.

I liked the people I met in Arizona very very much, but the climate was far to severe for me. I found limited amusement in being able to ACTUALLY fry an egg on the sidewalks.

I lived in Arizona for a few years, and I found that some people from rural areas had a "southern accent" (actually I'm thinking of one guy in particular from Wilcox, AZ, but not just him), but for the most part you're right.

Haven’t seen this in a long time but it’s without doubt the funniest movie I’ve ever seen - can’t think of anything that comes close. Lots of rollicking laughter watching this multiple times with different groups of people long ago. There’s some funny movies like “Anchorman” or “Home Alone” but this is just an entirely different level.

Just watched the trailer for "Renfield" and I personally can't wait! And yeah, he's either hit or miss, but when he's good he is REALLY GOOD. Couldn't begin to picture anyone else playing H.I. in this movie. Classic.

This was one of my favorite films of the '80s - and though I've recommended it to other reactors, you're the first to do it - Thanks so much, and glad you enjoyed! They made this on a shoestring budget and had to teach the SW speech colloquialisms to some of the actors (which worked their way into my everyday lexicon). H.I. said "her fiance' had left her", but dropped the accent at the end, so it came out "fiance". Former Heavyweight Kickbox Champion of The World, Randy "Tex" Cobb, played the Warthog from Hell, and needed no diction coaching (and wouldn't respond well to directions anyway).

The Coen bros have a delightfully dark sense of humor and I really enjoy their work. For more of their comedies - The Big Lebowski, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Though, Burn After Reading, and Hail Ceasar.

I was going to school in Phoenix when this movie came out. The Safeway grocery where Hi steals the Huggies was down the street from where I worked and the Short Stop he went to rob was by the school. I believe both are gone now - the whole Valley has changed so much since then. When my ex and I watched the movie, we kept saying - I know where that is, we've been there before. Great fun..

Out West in Arizona, just as in Texas, it is almost the law that everyone has a gun. This was such a good movie. The scenes where he is on the lamb were great. The yodeling, the sound track, the dogs joining in the chase and everything running through stranger's houses. Great cadence. Those Coen brother sumbitches are great! Love your laugh!

Definitely my favorite Cohen brothers movie amiga!!!!it’s also the first I saw in the theater. I laughed my arse off the whole time. I gotta watch it once a week ever since I saw it. Favorite quote: “WE GOT A CHILD IN HERE, EVERYTHING’S CHAAAAAAANGED”, and it was beautiful how Holly Hunter did that Elvis/Billy Idol lip curl 😍😍😍😍😍

Hi Dawn, I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better after watching Raising Arizona. It’s one of my very favorites too. Another feel good romantic comedy is, What’s Up Doc. It’s a homage to the screwball comedies from the 40’s. It’s from the 70’s. That sumbitch is a fine movie, if you get my drift. 😊

Very glad you saw this film. It's my favorite comedy and I try to tell everyone about it, since it came out in the '80's and doesn't get enough attention these days. The Coens really captured lightning in a bottle with this film.

Dawn, hope you decide to keep watching the Coen brother films. I highly recommend Miller's Crossing (interesting take on gangster films), Oh Brother Where Art Thou (their version of The Odyssey) and The Big Lebowski (probably their best film ever).

I lived in Tempe AZ for 15 years. They filmed a lot of it there. The grocery store scene was filmed Osco near my apartment. I think the bank was in Apache Junction but it sure does look like Tortilla Flats. One scene looked like Papago Buttes but it's hard to tell. I loved this movie. A friend of mine named his dog... H.I.

I Love this movie, got it in mu collection..Hy and his wife showed by how hard they fought to stop evil Harley-riding bounty hunter from taking Nathan Jr, then returnng him home, That they were great parent material after all. I only hope the dream he had at the end became a reality for them..Great pick, Dawn!!

The Coen Brothers have made so many great off-beat comedy movies, this being one of them. I think this was the first Coen Bro movie I remember seeing. As for your favorite word - the first movie I remember hearing that repeated often was in a comedy action adventure movie "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977).

If you need another heartwarming movie that will make you emotional... this movie reminded me of "Gifted" from 2017 starring Chris Evans! It is a very good movie... in my opinion.

@@Wungolioth Barton Fink is one of my favorites. I’ve seen it many times, but never seen it reacted to. I wonder if it’s a film for more hardcore cinephiles… open to much interpretation and analysis that might bewilder most first-time viewers. All the ones I listed are a little easier for mass digestion, IMO… as are Blood Simple, Hail Caesar, Burn After Reading, Ladykillers, Buster Scruggs, Inside Llewyn Davis, etc. And yes, Miller’s Crossing, absolutely would be a good one to react to.

@@flerbus I did, but I wouldn't classify it as one of my favorites, it's good, but it's also pretty dead serious, I might have to give it a rewatch, but I recall it being devoid of humor altogether, and I was trying to focus on one I feel often gets overlooked in their filmography, and has humor, but in this case very dark.

This is my absolute favorite movie! Every time I watch it, it’s just as funny and enjoyable as the last. It’s one of the best-written comedies I’ve ever seen- I love the combination of redneck dialect and highly-refined, almost poetic English and the subtly brilliant humor. That combined with the cartoonish but well-placed slapstick makes for something very enjoyable.

I remember seeing this in 1987 and you knew immediately that Cage and Hunter would have long successful careers. Hard to believe the Coen Brothers that made this are also made No Country For Old Men and Fargo. They are very good filmmakers.

Raising Arizona is one of my all-time favorites. Have you done other Coen Bros. movies? I recommend Fargo, Big Lebowski, True Grit, No /Country for Old Men, Miller's Crossing. Pretty much any of theirs.

John Goodman is the Coen brothers' muse, I guess. He's in a lot of their movies. They have a unique style of filmmaking in story and look. I'm always impressed with their camera work. Glad you liked it. They are one of the best American filmmakers, IMO.

Love this movie. Love the Coen Brothers. Love Holly Hunter and Nicholas Cage. You should check out the Coen Brothers first feature film: Blood Simple. When you see P.O.E., E.O.P. on the door the biker rides through it is referring to the classic comedy Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb, directed by the great Stanley Kubrick.

One of my all time favourites. I cherish my VHS version. Holly Hunter is simply awesome. One of the funniest bits for me is when he strips his knuckles on the ceiling. Don't know what that coating is called, but I've seen it before, most abrasive. Also, I don't have any tattoos, but if I were to get one, I have just decided what It'll be.

I remember them as stucco ceilings, but I see they're also called popcorn, stipple or acoustic and were often made of asbestos fibers until the 1970s.

@@honkoff99 yeah I've worked with Stucco for gables, I don't think it's that. I remember seeing it as a kid in the eighties, thought it was like a type of paint with the pebble type stuff through it. Popcorn is a good descriptor. Could be preformed asbestos. Asbestos was supposedly banned here in Australia in '87/'88.

@@arconeagain It's called Artex in the UK. My wife's old house had it on the walls down the stairway and it's definitely good for skin removal! Little details like that show the imagination and flair of the Coens, I love this film.

The Lone Biker of the Apocalypse was played by Randall "Tex" Cobb, a heavyweight boxer who fought the champion, Larry Holmes, in 1982. (He lost.) He's a blue-collar intellectual. Interesting man. Holmes whacked him around for 15 rounds, and he wasn't tired and he didn't lose his comedic touch. When they asked him if he wanted to fight Holmes again, he said, "Hell, yes. Tonight. Now. The sumbitch might get tired." "Sumbitch," a thing you hear all the time in the Southwest, is featured in an action-comedy called Smokey and the Bandit (1977). Quintessentially '70s and quintessentially American. Hilarious.

10:32. Wonderful land yacht, the 1972 Chevrolet Impala. My first car was one of those. But the one at 14:12 is a later model based on the bumper.

The word Ed used at the beginning when she was crying was fiancé not finance, it was just pronounced funny to emphasise her strong accent, she was crying because her mister dumped her. That's why Hide started cursing and yelling that any man that would leave her was an idiot. When I was about 15 I watched this movie at least once a week on VHS (it was the 90's) because the humour always cracked me up the same every watch - "Son, you got a panty on your head.." and "Well, unless you think round is funny" had me in stitches every time.

As a new year pick-me-up I recommend *Captain Ron (1992)* which is a New Years Day tradition in my house It's about a family who leave the Chicago winter for an extended Caribbean Vacation

One o my favorites " You got your health H I, what you want with a job ? ". If you want o get back to black & white comedy, I have the solution for you. My Dad turned me onto W.C. Fields. A comedic genius. One thing he did was figuring a way to curse when it wasn't allowed. Listen to what he says in that respect. Funny as Hell ! - The Bank Dick, my personal favorite. My Little Chickadee with Mae West. The list goes on . . ... Take care Dawn, Have a good 2023!

This is my favorite movie in the entire world. The dialogue is flawless. Three other movies that always make me laugh are This is Spinal Tap, UHF and Tank Girl.

Great quirky classic you can always go back to for even more laughs! Such strong characters and acting--some even seem quite Norman Rockwell-ish LOL...Ed for one is simply hilarious!!! And "Sowm-Bitch" fits you very well!...accent and all!!😜 Knew this would be up your alley, but never dreamed you'd actually be reacting to it!! Welp, I guess its next onto 'National Treasure' (2005) & 'National Treasure 2' (2008) for more of Nicholas Cage's best movies...they are actually very good, fun, family movies and were done by Disney (with very high budgets), before they started to get woke and suck. They are a cross between 'The Da Vinci Code', 'Indiana Jones', and 'Pirates Of The Caribbean', if you will. And hence the name(s), they are "treasure hunting" movies, with lots of action and (historical) puzzle-solving. 'Lord of War' is Nicholas Cage's 4th best movie though, which I also highly recommend and is certainly worth bringing up--now and at all times, due to war always possibly being around the corner--as it has a great message behind it which makes it a MUST SEE--it is very very deep, troubling &/or interesting, and eye-opening, 👉👁👁👈 to say the least. But 'RAISING ARIZONA' is his best and I just love that theme song! All 4 movies are widely loved by most. He obviously has many other films but these 4 were the greatest contributions to cinema, imo. 🙏🙏🙏 And you are being too adorable👌...plz stop. Lol.
