Throughout his extensive career, Tim Maia, born Sebastião Rodrigues Maia on September 28, 1942, and passing away on March 15, 1998, achieved significant success in the Brazilian music industry. His legacy includes a variety of musical styles like soul, funk, disco, jazz, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, romantic ballads, samba, bossa nova, baião, and música popular brasileira (MPB). He was particularly instrumental in introducing the soul genre to Brazilian music and, alongside Jorge Ben, was a pioneer in blending samba with soul, funk, and rock and roll in a style known as sambalanço.
Tim Maia's impact in music continued posthumously, with his works maintaining popularity and inspiring a 2012 theatrical musical in Rio de Janeiro titled "Vale Tudo." During his career, he had stints with all major Brazilian record labels, producing several hits like "O Descobridor dos Sete Mares" and "Me Dê Motivo." He also collaborated with artists like Fevers, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Ivan Lins, and Sandra de Sá, with his partnership with Sá on "Vale Tudo" later becoming a solo success. The 1980s saw more achievements with albums like "Tim Maia" (1986), featuring the hit "Do Leme ao Pontal (Tomo Guaraná, Suco de Caju, Goiabada Para Sobremesa)." Maia's exploration in music led him to produce a bossa nova covers album, inspired by Caetano Veloso's songbook. Despite a period of lesser media presence, he surged back into popularity with mentions in Jorge Ben Jor's "W/Brasil" and a successful re-recording of Lulu Santos' "Como uma Onda." Tim Maia's personal life was as eventful as his career. He spent time in the United States from 1959 to 1964, where he encountered legal troubles that eventually led to his deportation. He had three sons: José Carlos da Silva Nogueira, whom he met at age 15 but never legally recognized; Marcio Leonardo "Léo" Maia, whom he adopted; and Carmelo "Telmo" Maia, with his wife Geisa Gomes da Silva, from whom he later divorced. In his later years, Maia joined the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) in October 1997, rumored to be considering a Senate run. He was known for his candid and often ironic take on Brazilian politics and society. On March 8, 1998, followed a health decline during a performance, leaving behind a rich and influential musical legacy.

Tim Maia was a Brazilian singer, songwriter, musician and businessman who was known for his eclectic, ironic, outspoken and humorous musical style. He was one of the pioneers of soul and funk music in Brazil and one of the most influential and popular artists in Brazilian music history. He experimented with various musical genres, such as MPB, samba, bossa nova, rock, disco and R&B. He wrote and performed songs that dealt with themes such as love, spirituality, social justice, drugs and humor. He was born as Sebastião Rodrigues Maia in Rio de Janeiro in 1942. He started writing songs and playing instruments at a young age. He formed his first band at 14 and taught guitar to his friends Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos, who later became famous singers as well. He was also part of a group of young musicians who hung out at Matoso Street in Tijuca, including Jorge Ben Jor. They were influenced by rock and roll, especially by Elvis Presley and Little Richard. In 1959, he moved to the United States, where he lived for five years. He joined a vocal group called The Ideals and learned English by listening to soul and R&B records. He also got involved with drugs and was arrested several times for theft and drug possession. He was deported back to Brazil in 1964 after being caught smoking marijuana in a stolen car. Back in Brazil, he resumed his musical career and adopted the stage name Tim Maia. He recorded his first single in 1968 with the songs "Meu País" and "Sentimento". He also collaborated with other artists such as Elis Regina, Wilson Simonal and Gal Costa. In 1970, he released his first album, Tim Maia, which was a huge success and established him as a star. The album included hits such as "Azul da Cor do Mar", "Primavera" and "Coroné Antônio Bento". He followed up with more albums that consolidated his fame and popularity, such as Tim Maia (1971), Tim Maia (1972) and Tim Maia (1973). In 1974, he converted to a religious sect called Cultura Racional, which influenced his music and his lifestyle. He released two albums dedicated to the sect: Racional Vol. 1 (1975) and Racional Vol. 2 (1976). These albums are considered cult classics by many fans and critics, but they were initially rejected by the public and the media. He later renounced the sect and returned to his previous style. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he experimented with disco music and had hits such as "Sossego", "Acenda o Farol" and "Do Leme ao Pontal". He also recorded duets with Gal Costa ("Um Dia de Domingo") and Fábio Jr. ("O Que Me Importa"). He also faced problems with drugs, alcohol, obesity and health issues that affected his career and his personal life. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he tried to revive his career with new albums and tours. He had some success with songs such as "Me Dê Motivo", "Descobridor dos Sete Mares" and "Não Quero Dinheiro". He also participated in TV shows, movies and documentaries about his life and music. He died in 1998 at the age of 55 from a heart attack while performing on stage in Niterói. Tim Maia was a special artist because he had a unique voice, a charismatic personality and a creative musical vision. He blended different influences from Brazilian and international music into his own style that appealed to a wide audience. He also expressed his feelings, opinions and experiences through his songs with honesty, humor and emotion. He left a legacy of songs that are still loved and admired by many people today.

According to the lyrics translation, the song "Você" by Tim Maia is about a man who falls in love with a woman who he thinks is impossible to win over. He expresses his feelings for her and asks her not to go away because he would miss her terribly. He says she is more than he ever imagined and everything to him. It's a very romantic and passionate song.
