Another reason why Luke gets more respect than Octavian is because his motives make SENSE and even Percy agrees to some degree.

I actly like Blood of Olympus cuz Reyna and Nico's povs and we meet the hunters, the war was yeah, prob not a whole lot, but i didn't hate the book-

I gotta say, Jason is probably kinda lonely. I mean, in the seven, Percy had Annabeth, Leo and piper were likely good friends before Jason was inserted like a last minute love interest by petty cow/goat lady, and hazel and Frank at least had actual conversations that we didn’t see. People say that Leo was a seventh wheel, but Jason was by far the character who was the most left out. I doubt he even formed actual bonds with any of the seven, and that’s why jason x piper flopped. Also, Reyna sorta moved on already from him and he probably didn’t have many friends in Camp Jupiter. Like the video said, the timeline was far too rushed for any of them to form real bonds.

I would have to say i disagree that Nico didnt have as many impressive feats as Percy and Hazel by age 13. Nico made it through Tartarus around 13 years old, which wasn't accomplished by Percy until he was over 16 years old, and Percy barely survived. Nico was years younger, and had no training from Camp Half-Blood before doing so. He learned the extent of his powers on his own, out in the world, unprotected. That in itself is one of the biggest feats within the Riordanverse besides beating Gaea and Typhon. Tartarus is one of the most feared places and beings in the whole franchise. And now he's had to face it TWICE, still as a teenager. Not to mention him being trapped inside a jar for days on end in a death trance at age 13, while only consuming one of Persephone's pomegranate seeds per day while waiting for Percy to rescue him and whilst using his power IN the death trance to send Percy dream visions. Honestly, any character in the franchise would be ELATED to be able to endure what Nico's body does.

Here’s my opinion : Something that don’t get talk about enough in the book is the reaction to the trauma itself. Like, yes, the kids clearly have problems, but do they REALLY act like it ? Now, I’m not a psychologist or a therapist or anything, but I do know that what they went through would leave more visible emotional and mental scars that would make then act a certain way, and since we’re reading from their pov, * think * a certain way, like, most of times when I’m reading it, I have to remind myself that “ Oh, these aren’t just kids, they’re traumatized “. Especially in HOH, Percabeth literally fall into Tartarus, yet in BOO, they act like nothing happened, beside some flinching here and there, other than that, nothing. The only one who actually seem to have ADHD is Leo. Like, really, think about it, what ADHD traits does any of them have beside them being flighty ? And that shouldn’t even count because being flighty is a trait most trauma victims have. As someone with ADHD, when I find out that Percy have ADHD, I was so happy because I thought that I will be able to relate to him on some level, but no, pretty sure I forgot that they even have ADHD by the third book. I think the forgiveness that Luke received should also be given to Octavian, if not more, because really, think about it - Luke have a valid reason, yes, but still, he betrays CHB, hurt several people, cause most the death that could’ve been avoid in PJO ( Zoe, Bianca, Castor, Lee, Michael, Silena, Charlie, A bunch of unnamed Apollo kids ), and whenever you like it or not, those are all his faults for freeing Kronos. Killing himself is NOT a redemption Arc and the only reason most of us forgive him is because we meet him before he reveals to be evil, and because Percy does Octavian, on the other hand, also have a good reason ( The romans allow a floating warship onto their land, said floating warship then bomb them and runaway with 3 romans, basically declaring war ), but the part that mad him better here is nobody * actually * dies, except himself. Like, think about it, who dies ? And like Luke, the only reason we hate him is because our first impression with him isn’t the best and that mostly everyone was happy he dies. Nico is stronger than Percy by 13, like, look at this : Nico by 13 : - Lotus Casino - His sister dies - Becomes the Ghost King - Fought 1 war - Met Akhlys ( Canon ) - Survive Tartarus ( Bonus point he’s a child of Hades so he sees Tartarus in his true form ) - Probably kill a bunch of monster in Tartarus - Survive 1 weeks in a jar on pomegranate seeds - Bryce Lawrence Percy by 13 ( SOM ) : - Gabe - Kill a bunch of monster ( When compare to Nico, we don’t know what monster Nico fought so if we name them, it wouldn’t be fair ) - Survive the SOM - Fought Ares ( He doesn’t actually fight Hades, just escaped him ) - Lost his mom ( Momentarily ) So yes, Nico was stronger than Percy when Percy was 13 TOA is my favourite because I’m a sucker for character growths, and while yes, PJO / HOO have characters growths too, but they’re very sublte and you have to squint for it, and I would rather not have to stare at a sentence for 3 hours straight just to get a droplet of character growths worthy of analysis, thank you very much. Not to mention, by MOA, I was getting sick of the MCs ( Except Hazel and Frank, idk why ) so the fact that TOA gives more spotlight to new / minor characters gives me immense joy. I would rant more, but if I do, then it’ll end up not making sense at all. That’s all lol, I’ve spent like, 30 minutes on this

The Lost Hero I feel like is so underrated. The characters are underrated, and the is storyline. People always tell me it because there was no action at the beginning when Piper literally fell now the fricken Grand Canyon in chapter 2, meanwhile in the Son of Neptune there are some evil grandmas that were killed in ten seconds and then your stuck at Camp Jupiter forever. I understand it is not as good as MoA, which is a very good book, or HoH but still come on people treat it like it is the worst book Rick has ever written. (Not counting BoO)

I have to say that I disagree with you about Rachel. (As a fellow introvert) I never felt like she was inserting herself where she didn't belong/trying to feel special. She's very bubbly and extroverted, and I see how it can be off putting to some people, but it always felt most like wholesome curiosity to me. She's had a whole new world presented to her and she wants to learn about it, and I think a lot of us would feel the same if we'd had her experiences at her age. Granted, she doesn't express it in the absolute best way, but she *is* a kid, so I don't really have a major issue with it. Later in the books though, she's become friends with (and developed feelings for) Percy and so her wanting to be involved out of genuine concern for him is valid in my eyes. She's also having her own explainable experiences in the form of the oracle dreams, and probably trying to look for answers for that. While I'm not a Perachel shipper (Percabeth forever), Rachel is still one of my favorite characters and I had to say something in her defense. Absolutely no hate to you though! We just interpreted her character differently, and I understand where you're coming from. (Also idk what everyone else is talking about, Octavian's official art is hot. And no, he's not redeemable, but I like him because he's a fun villain.)

In regards to who is worse between Luke and Octavian, keep in mind that we know exactly why Luke is so angry at the Gods and (even though he handled it in all the wrong ways) he was totally valid in those reasons. IIRC we don't get any sort of motivation for Octavian as to why he does what he does. Granted it's been a while since I've read the HoO books but I don't remember Octavian getting that kind of depth

I like annabeth, Leo, nico and Apollo's pov and I would like it if Rick could write Meg's pov.

The thing with Octavian is that we only get to see him through other people’s eyes, and looking back and rereading (specifically SON, the start of MOA and BOO) we can see that most of the stuff he does is really because he cares about Rome. Also, let’s take a moment to understand his actions, first of all, he was waiting to become praetor when all of a sudden Percy takes his place, okay fine, he acted as calm as he could be. When the Argo II arrives at New Rome, Octavian immediately sees it as a threat, because he foresaw the meeting with the Greeks going wrong, Can you blame him for being suspicious when they bring a literal WARSHIP with a promise of peace? Then Percy swears on his life that the Greeks come in peace, and that would not attack which we know it ended up being not true, despite the circumstances, the Romans don’t know it was Gaia’s doing. Octavian takes seriously the oaths, and he was already suspicious of Percy at the start, only for him to prove his suspicious, even if it was an accident, again, the romans never got to know it was actually Gaia. After that, Octavian goes after them because he demands justice, he only then goes to camp half blood, but didn’t exactly planned to kill the Greeks, his wording is very important because he uses the word unity a lot, which probably meant making the Greeks surrender to the Roman side, thus, making the gods schizo thing go away, maybe preventing Gaia from rising. It’s only when things tart to go bad that he changes plan and goes with kill the Greeks mindset, he does this in a moment of desperation. Yes, what he did in the end WAS bad, but I firmly believe that if the characters were not biased (some of them never knowing Octavian and immediately treating him like shit, i.e. Annabeth and Piper) Octavian’s actions might’ve been seen as something more reasonable, not exactly making said actions GOOD, but at the very least giving them a reason as to why he did it. I will be an Octavian defender til the end 😞

i have Caleo SO MUCH. it's so creepy bc Calypso is over 1000 years old, and he's 15!! plus the fact that she's practically cursed to fall in love with every guy that washes up, so it's similar to Jiper, where the love isn't actually real and makes a toxic relationship also, she's ALREADY HAD KIDS. SHE HAS BEEN A MOTHER. AND NOW SHE'S WITH A 15 YEAR OLD. IT'S CREEPY I really love Octavian and he's my favorite character, so fight me on that /hj

Honestly, in my opinion, Octavian genuinely is overhated. TW: mentions of w@r, b0mbing, d3ath & su1c1d3 (nothing that isn’t in the books) So, his choices are cutting open stuffed animals or cutting open real animals, and he picked the less damaging (and cleaner..) option. Also, when everyone hates him for attacking the Greeks, think about it from his perspective: - they let the Greeks fly their *w@rship* into New Rome. - Leo (remember, this is from Octavian’s POV) b0mbs their city (which is almost definitely considered a declaration of w@r). - they then take 3 of the Romans and flee with no explanation, making them look *really* guilty. So I can understand why he’d want to attack the Greeks, he likely felt that he was just defending his city. Also, fun fact: when New Rome got b0mbed, Octavian was literally set on fire. Plus, Apollo (the one god he truly respects) was telling him “yeah, go for it!” for ages, and Gaea is also manipulating him to believe that the Greeks are the reason everything’s going wrong. Finally, his d3ath was *f-cked up* and I need more people to acknowledge that. He was clearly having a mental breakdown, there was literally gold *melting into his skin* and he couldn’t even feel it, and then when he d!es in a potential su1c1d3 (some of the things he says at the time heavily imply that he knew that he was about to d!e (he was rambling about being ‘remembered’ as the saviour of Rome, when you’d celebrate a living person, remembrance tends to be for d3ad people)), all that’s really said is “some deaths shouldn’t be prevented”. Which, whether you like Octavian or hate him, that’s still a pretty f-cked up thing to say about a person who technically just committed su1c1d3.

I love ToA opinions here cuz its my second fav series in the PJ universe. Also I think its more mature than PJO or at least HoO. The 2nd book really delves into much more darker themes as well as many parts of the 3rd & 4th books.

mhm…yeah for me, a twelve year old, who started reading the books in 4th grade, ToA is my fav series. Just Apollo and his personality touched my heart so much. And the characters in the series are my favs, idk, but pjo was good and I liked it, so that’s why I continued reading Rick riordan, but I think I liked ToA more…Percy was cool, but meeting Nico, Will, Leo, and Jason I liked them more. I think over time I started to not like Percy as much, and with multiple povs i don’t have the character I’m waiting for so I enjoy them, yeah hazel, piper, and franks povs def were my least fav, but they still were enjoyable. and with solangelo, I prefer them over percabeth, just cuz as people them selves, will and nico are higher on my favs list (my ultimate favs are will and lityerses)

Ok, I'm going to defend Trials Of Apollo here as a old fan and 20 something year old; it is fantastic. Maybe not the best executed in some ways, but when it hits? It HITS. I love Apollo as a main character, he does grow the most, and there's just something so...visceral and raw seeing an actual god go through so much growth to turn, essentially, into a human. The theme is incredible, the moments hit so hard, it's just so good I feel. It's the perfect send-off to the series as a whole, something both previous arcs had been really building up to thematically...how do you make permanent change for the world the gods created? You make one human. Not just physically, emotionally, understand what it's like to be human. God, it's so good. Also I personally agree with Nico and Hazel being stronger then Percy at that age. Like, Percy's feats are no laughing matter, but can he summon an army of the undead like Nico? Uh, no. No he cannot. And Hazel fights a GIANT, AND Gaea. That is by far more impressive than anything Percy fights in his first book, both Giants and Gaea are more powerful than any individual god. Fighting the god of literal war is deeply impressive, but, here's my hot take: fighting any number of monsters Percy has fought in his first book or two? That's his day job. That is what literally ANY OTHER demigod has to deal with. He isn't special in that regard. Percy is powerful, most likely still the most powerful demigod in the series, but people still find ways to overrate his power, which feels it shouldn't be possible but it is.

Will there be a part two? Additionally, I believe that the Magnus Chase series is underappreciated. I wouldn't say the writing is better, but the characters are so entertaining that I hope more people would talk about the series. Here are my thoughts. 1. The best ship is Alex and Magnus, in my opinion. Even if you disagree, the fact that their relationship would rival others with more book time is noteworthy because they only had two volumes to develop as characters and as a couple. 2. I think the biggest reason people don't read it is because it should have had more than three novels. If they had 5, I would have liked to see more of the Alex and Sam sibling conversation and more of Hearth and Blitzen. 3. Blitzstone should have been canon. Enough said.

Actually I read PJO back after the first movie came out and didn’t want to read HoO because I was intimidated by the length of the first book. Eventually I got a lot older and found out about the other series through youtube and started reading all the other series in college around when we got a release date for ToN (yes I still love them all even as an adult). I also re read PJO once I finished ToA to put things in perspective and while I still have nostalgia for the first series but I also have a love of watching an author evolve over time and I felt Rick had evolved through HoO, MC, and ToA and I can see that in The Sun and the Star. I just like how Rick had evolved as an author in terms of the character arcs and emotions I felt as the reader in MC and especially ToA and TSatS. I’ve also seen some say that ToA is more mature and appeals more to older fans which could be why I connected with it more. Thou I admit due to Rick wanting to keep Percy at 17 PJO is better paced because it was the only series that had breathing room. Also why do people keep comparing Luke to Octavian? Luke was not only sympathetic, he did what he did because he was right about how unfair the demigods and minor gods were treated and Percy understood and made an effort to change things for the better. It helps that Luke made an effort to correct his mistakes, something else Octavian doesn’t have.

I think Magnus is the best MC he’s honestly way funnier than Percy, he has a very sad backstory, his motives are believable. He his heroic and in the second-ish chapter he was sacrificing himself to keep his friends and strangers safe. Also Alex x Magnus and Hearthstone x blitz are the best ships in the Riordan universe. Magnus also has the most normal reaction to finding out the gods are real.

On the point about Luke 2:25 I think a lot of people confuse what it means to empathizing with a character and having sympathy for them. In both directions. Some people see Luke’s story and go: “omg luke had all the reasons to do what he did. It’s not his fault Kronos manipulated him, and made him almost destroy the world. LUKE IS INNOCENT!!” Which is just a “no” from me. Just cause you can understand why a character did what they did, doesn’t mean they were right to do so, and Luke being manipulated doesn’t excuse all the war crimes and attempted/successful murder. However those who don’t empathize or sympathize with him can make the same mistake. Thinking saying “yeah I understand why you did this” is the same as saying “I think you were right to do that.” Is not true. It’s very different. I both empathies with and have sympathy for Luke, but I would NEVER say it’s okay to do what he did. There is a difference

When comparing the children of the big three, I feel like people don't realize that if they all excel with their powers in different categories, where's the point in comparing them?🧐🤓 examples: - Percy wins out in terms of raw power because, unlike Jason who has to call upon Zeus for all but flying, Percy can use any and all of his abilities whenever and however he needs or wants. - Jason wins with Rescue capabilities: Flight = easy exits and quick extractions, etc., etc. - Nico wins out with *raw talent* despite seeming to have the highest learning curve by far.

I find Reyna heavily overrated. Especially her skill. Percy and Annabeth change to much and I much prefer them in Pjo because it doesn’t make much sense how different they are.

Luke motivation was build off of the years of mistreatment by the god and in the dark at the time that Kronos more value of that vs Octavia reason was because of his wanting to be hero Luke try to get on a better path but due to a previous and he couldn't. Octavian never try he decided to stay on the path you versa where he have opportunity to change and even giving us a hand to do but deny it
