This is a reaction video to Ian Dury And The Blockheads performing "There Ain't Half Been Some Clever Bastards" which is the b-side to the hit single "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick". Ian does his poetic justice to this song.

Ian Dury was greatly influenced by old East End music hall entertainers, who used alot of innuendos, and humorous songs.

As someone else has said, Ian Dury was a pretty clever bustard. He had a high iq and went to a grammar school. My father was a cockney and I still live in Essex but even I have some problems with his slang. He brings a smile to my face.

Hi Kim E ... I fell in love with Ian when I first bought the single "Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll". What an amazingly strange voice that just makes you want to hear more by him. And nobody writes more straight forward lyrics then Ian. Take care and keep rockin' ... 😎🎸✌

@@drivingwithtodd1781 yes, he’s such a unique artist. You know I did see a movie recently of his life story, unfortunately I can’t recall the name of it.

So many wonderful social commentary ditties from this geezer. One of the true gentlemen of the UK music industry,singer songwriter social activist music producer record label owner, engineer, mentor (Heavey influence to Suggs of Madness - take a deep listen) "Spasticus Autisticus" was written in 1981 as a protest against the International Year of Disabled Persons, which Dury considered to be patronising. Dury was himself disabled by polio contracted in his youth. Fed up with repeated requests to get involved with charitable causes, Dury wrote an "anti-charity" song. Noddy song I wanna be straight. What a waste. Sex and drugs and Rock'n'roll are amongst my favourite Ian tracks

People always under estimate how difficult it is to make something genuinely funny and charming. If you think about it, can you come up with anything which matches Ian Dury in this respect? Maybe Noel Coward…

Great song, Ian Dury seemed to have a don't give a shit sort of attitude which i like. Suggs and some of the lads from the band Madness used to go and watch the Kilburn and the High Roads before they had formed the band, Suggs has said how he was influenced by Ian Dury's stage presence and singing. In 1999 Madness released a song fearturing Ian Dury in the song Drip Fed Fred. It would be great to hear what you think of the song.

Hi Martin ... I am also a fan of Madness though I have not heard Drip Fed Fred. That will be a future reaction. Thanks for suggesting it! Keep rockin' ... 😎🎸✌

Explaining the words of the song, which let's face it is as complex as an abstruse algebraic equation, makes it sooooo much funnier.

I'm not sure but is Phil Jupitus in the video of One Step Beyond By Madness? I think he is the bloke dancing wearing the black trench coat and red fred perry shirt?
@drivingwithtodd17812 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin ... That could be. I am not personally familiar with Phil since he is a UK comedian but from what I read about him, he was good friends with Ian and members of Madness. Take care and enjoy ... 😎🎸✌

I wish you would listen first and respond later. Your interruptions didn't really add anything to your observations. It's nice to see you enjoying the wordplay and the skill of the musicians.
