I'm 70 now, and i listened to music, let's say, the last 60 years but there never was a band with such a quality, versatility, amount of songs and an unbeatable leadsinger. They are the best!

I am almost 30 at the moment. Maybe to you I seem very young and perhaps foolhardy. I hope you were the same at my age, because it is excelirating! I can only hope, that one, I am alive at my 70th, and two, I enjoy music in the same deep way you are apparently doing. I am from the Netherlands, although it doesn't matter where you live, music cuts through to the core of the modern-day fast paced world like nothing else. Stay strong and stay safe!

Once again amazing to see you to react to Nightwish. It is one of my favorite bands of all times. Just wait until you see their ''Greatest show on Earth'' and ''The Poet and The Pendulum''. First one of them is one of the most epic stories I have ever seen and second one shivers me everytime. When you do ''The Poet and The Pendulum'' make sure you do have lyrics on and you have read the back story of the song in advance.

Respect for your description of some of the most Iconic and Classic bands in recent history, but once you get deep into the poetry, the emotional connection to Earth and Stars, the deep dark human stories and poems while Rockin' your Brain out !!! I thought no band could compete with the classic music I have heard since the late 60's thru today....but Nightwish literally changed my life. The way Stevie Nicks, Rush, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, KISS, Pink Floyd, Genesis, U2, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers.... OMG, I could go on forever. But Nightwish literally moves my SOUL ❤️ in musicality and poetry and HONESTY. There's no BS ! And they move me to Tears, whether it be a happy song or a heartbreaking song.... I'm crying every time. Can't wait to see MORE from you ! And stay with you through this journey !

Floor is Flawless, she will never hit anything or anyone with her windmill headbanging. It's something that she loves to do and this is very we'll rehearse. The crowd headbanging with her is how they honor their Queen. We all miss Jukka, he drums like an octopus with 6 arms and 2 feet. BTW he was responsible for the track sync, he uses a clicker in his ears, the moves follow that damm clicker. He had to hang the drum sticks due to severe insomnia, now he works as CEO of the band.

@droiduser9633
@droiduser9633 3 жыл бұрын
At this time, Jukka was still the drummer. Sadly he suffered health issues , as I understand, in the form of severe insomnia. He stepped down asking his friend Kai (from Wintersun) to take over, great idea! Jukka is more of a showman, but both men can make metronomes run screaming in fear! His suffering is apparent in many live videos sadly! Thankfully' Jukka is still a major part of Nightwish, in an administrative capacity! As an American who luckily found Nightwish 20 some odd years ago, I am so glad you now are listening to them as well! Such a great, diverse, group of musicians that never try to one up, just play what the current song requires! This rabbit hole is deeper than would seem, I look forward to you continue sinking in! Follow your journey into Nightwish as you see fit man, I will be there for sure every step! yes I am looking into your other videos as well! Much enjoyment all around!

O.S.N. I like you talking there and your accurate observations of the music Nightwish plays. Btw. If I remember correctly it was Deep Purple that used keyboards before Wings did. But you´re right; some notes Tuomas puts in his keybords really sounds bit of Wings. There are more of some familiar sounds when Emppu play his guitar, but as we know the music is composed by Tuomas. Greetings from Finland.

"Is there nothing that they do that isn't for a purpose?" - Other than having fun doing what they're doing and being so good at it? Nope. "And Nightwish has it's little spot in Symphonic metal." - Define little. 😂 Every song I would suggest right now already has been suggested, so I just liked those comments. I enjoy your reactions, but now I really wanna know what you consider "old". After looking up the release-year of that album I wonder if I am at the verge of being old or if I'm already there. Deep questions.🤔

Re storytelling, you should look at Jethro Tull if you haven't. I feel there are some similarities with Nightwish also, just in another style. About musicianship, I kind of disagree. Nightwish does their music differently from Rush. They don't improvise much, much of the output does not *seem* overly technical, but that is due to the songs being through-composed in a more songwriting style. There are very many nifty things hidden in there that keep the songs interesting and create the flow in the first place. And you will agree that they are faultless and tight at playing. If you have some time, look at the reactions that Chase Carneson has done to the Nightwish songs that you have reacted to. He's a musician (guitarist, I think), and he goes into deep analysis.

Hello @OldSkuleNerd I discovered your youtube channel these days and I've been loving your videos. I agree that Nightwish doesn't have Rush musicianship, but I also think that no other band does. When I found Dream Theater I believed they would have it someday, but in fact I was wrong. However, I see in Nightwish what I don't see in any other band, in any other historical moment, which is the ability and musical genius of Tuomas, who in my opinion is a complete musician and must have about 200 IQ. What he's been building, especially in recent years, is really impressive. I am grateful for having the opportunity to see two Rush´s concerts, it´s also one of my three favorite bands (Rush, Nightwish and Rammstein - yes, I'm crazy), and I'm so sorry to say goodbye to Mr. Peart. And I agree with you: I watched Pantera's concert on the Vulgar Display of Power tour here in Brazil and only my sister and I were women in the show. It's funny that you mention Jukka's crazy posture and shit. I always wondered if he had back problems from the way he was always hunched forward. Also it's interesting that you mentioned the age thing, you'd be surprised how many Nightwish fans are in their 50s and 60s. Hell my Dad is 68 and he loves Nightwish. We went to see them in VA Beach together a few years ago, it was fantastic. He still wears his Nightwish shirt all the time, and has got a few funny looks and comments, the funniest of which was a teenager at Petco that gave him a hilarious look and asked him "....You listen to Nightwish?!" and then my dad started gushing about how kickass Floor was when we went to see them.

@Ralf Meyer Verschreib mich zwar ger mal, Aber da steht Großensee!

Hi, here's Gerhard from Germany - Rush fan since decades and Nightwish fan since months. Musicianship and storytelling, I totally dig that - and Rush were the best. You should check out Ayreon with 'The Day That The World Breaks Down'. It may not quite be the league of 2112 but it has the vibe of it. And it has a lot more musicians (11 top class singers, among them Floor Jansen)!

"dude, they have like 200 songs, I'm gonna be here a while!" - I fail to see the problem. One thing I absolutely love about this song but I've not heard many people comment on is that for the final repeats of the chorus the music is in a different rhythm than Floor. The second-to-last repeat she's on the on-beat, the last repeat she's on the off beat.

Jukka, the drummer, is the band’s metronome. He’s in charge of the click track for the backing symphony track, so he’s constantly in motion. Also, I get more of a Pirate vibe from him, rather than a motorcycle gang.

About that, she is the third singer, maybe somebody has all ready mentioned but, fun fact, this also happens to be Floor's third band, so she is on stage as long as Nightwish

All 4 that tell their own stories in each song. But you do have a sold list too. Now I gotta check out your Romanticide reaction.

Jukka is like the energizer bunny behind the drums he's ALWAYS in motion it's great lol. Kai, the current drummer, is like the eye of the storm. Both of them are incredible. I'd recommend Weak Fantasy at Tempere! You get to see some of Kai as well as Troy :) and Marco playing bass AND guitar. helluva song Also since you mention storytelling, poet and the pendulum is really up there for me in that regard. There's a lot of backstory to that one... someone with a bit more knowledge than me will fill you in on it all in the comments, I'm sure xD

The drummer is sadly no longer with them on stage. He had to stop performing due to health issues. Currently newer songs and concerts are played by Kai Hahto the drummer of Wintersun who now joined nightwish.

Well now, Mr. O S Nerd, they sure do appeal to a vast range of people of both genders, my favourite is the last one I listen to. Perhaps a small illustration to the range of people, I'm the cantankerous, awkward, contentious old fart of 74 years and I need my daily dose of Nightwish or all Hell breaks loose. Good stuff, that reaction filled a need, thank you.

Great reaction. You seem to be a similar age to me and I agree with a lot of your views. No doubt, Rush are insurmountable, in my opinion, on technical musicianship and delivery. I've loved their live shows over the years and the effects and lighting has always been amazing. But the energy in Nightwish live shows is at least equal in my experience and some of the real masterpieces of Nightwish have echoes of 2112 for me. The dystopian storytelling in 2112 was amazing at the time - it felt like a George Orwell novel being read through rock! But, again, when you get to Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth, you'll find that Nightwish also take important messages and deliver them through their music. So, yeah, Neil Peart (R.I.P.), Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are different to Jukka / Kai, Tuomas, Marko, Floor, Troy and Emppu but I think there is just as much depth to their work.

i think youl like "7 days to the wolves", As others mentioned ''Greatest show on Earth'' and ''The Poet and The Pendulum'' are the most epic shows. After you checked most live shows you can check out the half year old latest nightwish album "Human nature". Its a bit different, experimental and lays the bar even higher for symphonic metal bands and contains a completely instrumental second disk. A 30 minute epic composition that showcases the compositional talent of tuomas that greatly complements the 1st music disk

OG here as well! While I don't think you're ready just yet, "Poet and the Pendulum" at Wembley is a must watch if you want a story... Do your research before hand. Three minutes and I'll leave it at that... If you want technical skills (and energy!) may I suggest getting introduced to Troy, "I want my tears back now" in Bueno Aires. Great reaction! Subbed.

Jukka/drummer is always on the move because he’s keeping the beat. He is, more than likely, listening to a click track. He is the workhorse of the group and his iconic headwear probably serves the added purpose of keeping the sweat out of his eyes. 😄🤘

Yes, Kai is a technician, great, unique (Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars), but Jukka brings as much emotion to his game as possible, he always looks like he wants to destroy the drums :-) They both have their own style and we love them both. Thanks and keep going.

Hi! I'm very thankful for your reaction and your recommendation (your favourites) on storytelling bands! I may be neither a young or an old and only dip into the metal genre on occasion, storytelling is what I'm really here for in any genre, so I'm excited to check them out (is there a specific year for Madison Square? I'm not knowledgeable about their live performances so I'm just asking just in case to get the best introduction) I love NW for this, their energy on stage, their synergy. Their outbound energy and connection to the crowd who only too happily returns it. (I'm not posing that as unique just as an aspect I cherish them for) I greatly love and miss Jukka drumming away like this and I'm so glad I get to see it everytime I watch their Wacken 2013. (also, in the Pantheon of Storytellers, yes even as a NW European I appreciate that analogy most certainly, thank you ;) ) Glad you are enjoying them! And it's good to hear your anecdotes and opinions that connect across time. Thank you.
