Misa (me-sa) is known as the Barefoot Assassin because she plays barefooted and slays her 5-string bass! She plays with a pick, slaps & pops, and finger style and switches between them at a moment’s notice never missing a beat. She is truly extraordinary. She took it quite easy in this song, saying that she thought it was busy enough already. But typically she plays much more aggressively. Check them out if you can. ✌🏼

i saw this live a couple weeks ago in tokyo garden theater (1/9/2023) and it was AMAZING. When it started i felt like i was blasted back a bit by the shock of the soundwaves (I was in the 4th row). it was AWESOOOME.

When I first heard this, I was literally stunned into silence. It is a perfect complement to Onset, as both songs are so technically perfect as respects composition, yeah, it's KANAMI we are talking about here, we wouldn't expect anything other than that from her. I've said this before, but she is a true savant when it comes to taking the ideas in her brain and perfectly blending them into such a complex composition that sounds otherworldly. And it's a testament to the personal relationships between the ladies that they can work as such an integrated group to the point they can finish each other's sentences unbidden. I've listened to it maybe 30 times with a very good pair of headphones and it seem that every time I listen I pick up something different that astounds me. I just sit there and shake my head. I've played music before, mostly sax and keyboards, and I've followed rock since the late 1950's, and no one compares, except for Jimi, he was another savant. I had despaired at the steady elimination of true rock over the years, but Japan and it's female bands have resurrected and refined the genre, moving towards a new pinnacle of success. And they all just keep on improving all the time. it's a new Renaissance period for rock, and there are more and more new technically proficient artists all the time. There I go again getting all wordy, mea culpa. Just seeing your reaction is worth the price of admission.

Yes he's a legend. Besides being such a talented guitarist that Band-Maid invited him to audition 😉, he's done as much as anyone to spread the word of these fantastic Japanese bands. I've been subscribed to Dragonforce for a very long time, but if I weren't I'd definitely be subscribing now.

Herman-Maid!!! Dude, I love you for this man 😁 I have always known of Dragon Force and Herman Li (especially Herman) but I really found out about you through Band-Maid. Now that I have watched more of Dragon Force, Herman Li is a master of the guitar and to see how you have promoted my favorite guitarist of all time, Kanamincho, I love you even more man. I watched the audition when it came out and it made my heart swell with joy to see how much you made Miku and Mincho laugh and how happy all 3 of you were to celebrate music together. Your fan machine and maid outfit had Kanami say one of the cutest things I have ever heard her say when she called you Kawaii. YOU ROCK!!!

I am 57 yrs old...I've heard or seen all the greats..And these women to me are the best ever and its not even close IMHO...when they came to NY I saw them and loved every minute of it...having said all that I have a question...Why aren't they bigger here in the states and around the world? Is it the outfits? Is it the language barrier? Is it they're all females? I don't understand why a band as perfect as they are can't make it bigger around the world or is one of my theories correct or all 3 of my theories correct.

This year, after ten years of activity, they filled a hall of 8,000 people. An arena of 13,000 people has been decided in the fall. The fan base is definitely growing, and they appreciate that. As long as they play well and make good songs, the world will definitely recognize them.

Yes! This band is f'n incredible. Everything from their music to their live stage antics (and off stage) and amazing live shows makes them one of the best on the planet right now. And man are they all super talented. And funny af.

It is heartening to have someone of your talent and standing to comment so positively on Band Maid. I am old but committed fan and play just enough guitar, PRS 408, to know how exceptional Kanami's playing is. They seem to be attracting more and more attention these days but deserve a really big break. Let's hope your reaction will help them get the major success that they all deserve.

Thanks for the reaction Herman. I saw Band-maid in Boston in October. I was right in front of Misa in the front row. She is phenomenal! She never misses a note! Nobody is challenging her. She is the best! So sorry you didn't make the band. I thought your audition was incredible. I was looking forward to seeing you on the Band-Maid U.S. tour. Alas, it just didn't happen. Maybe Dragonforce can open for Band-Maid next time (😜). I would love to see a collaboration.

Damn. Band-maid is on of those hardest working girl band from Japan. I remember their oldest live videos where they performed on the grass without stage at random anime festivals. I remember they are saying they are struggling because they were better known outside of Japan then inside. Ps. You should also check out another hard working girl band from Japan, Gacharic Spin who always give their all in performing lives.

Thanks Herman for reacting to Band-Maid. I was lucky to get a ticket for Band-Maid's Okyuji at Tokyo Garden Theater on January 9th. They played From Now On live just as good as on this MV, they are amazing players 🙂I believe Davie504 has done a reaction on female Japanese bass players, but not played any of MISA's stuff. No God has a fair bit of slapping that Davie504 loves.
