I had planned 2 hours, was there for 6 hours (including a visit to the restaurant) and was far from seeing everything.

The Braun twins ran a nightclub in Hamburg before persuading the bank to help bankroll this project 20 years ago! We have been there 4 times (total of18 hours viewing time) and have still not seen it all. Italy' France and Monaco were added just prior to the pandemic and for the last 5 years they have been working on a fully operational model of the Monaco Grand prix (including racing cars that race independently with random overtaking and sound).They recently took over a second warehouse on the other side of a canal through the Speicher district, erected a bridge to connect the buildings (with a model railway crossing it) and are now in the process of building a layout representing South America. Rio de Janeiro was the first part opened and Patagonia (with working collapsing glacier in Drakes Passage) will open in a few weeks. Well worth a weekend in Hamburg. MiWuLa (as it's known colloquially) also frequently opens for free admission to those not in a position to afford entry.

I've lost count of how often I've been there. Living in Hamburg obviously makes it easy to just pop in if I feel like it. They are constantly (literally) building and expanding on the layout. Yes, it truly is amazing. What you see in the video is only a tiny part of the whole set. It simply isn't possible to show *everything* in a video that isn't many hours long. The level of detail is beyond what you can imagine. Each and every time I find something new I haven't seen before. Some of the figurines are involved in quite some raunchy behavior, so be prepared to either divert your kids' attention or to do some major explaining. But the truly raunchy stuff can only be seen on the "behind the scenes" guided tour as even the Braun brothers have deemed some stuff to be unsuitable for the general public. Mind you, they still haven't removed it completely from the set, just put it somewhere 'safer' so anyone seeing it can't claim it wasn't 'self-inflicted'. 😂 To retain the moniquer of "world's largest model train set" every part of the rails has to be reachable by any train, no matter how long it has to drive there, and how many switches have to be turned. But that is a Guiness Book requirement. This placed quite some strain on the development team when they rented out the same floor in the storage building right over the canal. They were allowed to connect the two buildings with a footbridge, which wasn't as trivial as it sounds. Both the status as a world heritage site for the Speicherstadt / the warehouse city, as well as the construction of the warehouses themselves made it a challenge. These warehouses were built in the 19th century by ramming thick wooden poles deep into the silty mud of the river. The whole Speicherstadt has been declared a world heritage site, thus major changes to the architecture have to be signed of by the city council to be in congruence with keeping the site pristine. The canals themselves however fall semi-dry as the river Elbe is tidally influenced by the North Sea. Similar to the Themse river in London, it rises and falls with the lunar tides. As such the water pressure outside on the silty mud changes constantly, allowing the buildings to shift their lean with each tide. This means that the top of the buildings have a horizontal divergence depending on the tides by up to 30 cm from one extreme to the other, or roughly one foot (for you Americans). This posed a problem both for the pedestrians but also the trains. To sustain the interconnectivity of the train tracks and their title as the largest model railway the designers had to come up with a solution how this difference in distance could be compensated with usually inflexible train tracks so the trains could travel across the bridge as well. The self-driving cars was a development by the team themselves. It simply didn't exist before they put their heads to it. It is so sophisticated that each and every vehicle relays its charging level to a central computer which then calculates when the vehicles has to drive itsself to a charging station. These charging stations do not require human interaction. The outer rear view mirrors on vehicles act as connectors to the chargers which careful attach to them automatically. These vehicles don't drive in slots, but with a magnet that tracks along a thin wire under the road surface. This allows for vehicles to switch from one to another road section under computer control, so it seems as if the traffic were at least somewhat natural.

This video is already eleven years old. In the meantime the Miniatur Wunderland has grown bigger and bigger and is has become even more fascinating than it was back then. So even if you have been there before, you can be sure to see lots of new areas after a few years. I could hardly believe it when I first heard it was - and still is - the most popular tourist attraction in Hamburg, because the city has so much to offer. But on second thought, there is a lot to see, but no other single location that is definitely a must-see. If you visit the Minitatur Wunderland, take a lot of time! It's really fun to discover all the small details. The people working there are true artist, so take your time to appreciate their work!

Im from Germany, but not from Hamburg. I've been there several times now, and I plan to go again. They are always adding amazing sections - this video is quite old; by now, there are several new sections, including Italy with Mt. Vesuvius, Monaco, Rio de Janeiro and soon Patagonia and Antarctica. Tickets are 20€ for adults and there are a lot of discounts for kids, students or disabled people. You have a restaurant in there, too, so you don't have to leave for food. And yes, you definitely can spend a whole day there. When we went, we always chose dates with no vacation or holiday throughout Germany, and then went to Hamburg on one day, stayed overnight, and made sure we were the first ones to scratch at the entrance door on the second day. Last day we'd ride home. When you ever come back to Europe again, make sure you visit the Wunderland. It's absolutely stunning, and I do not use that word lightly.

Miniatur Wunderland is the attraction with the highest attendance in whole Germany and people from EVERY country in this world have visited it in all the years. I am from Ruhrgebiet which is about 450 km away from Hamburg. But two years ago I made a one day trip to Hamburg (using the Autobahn to be there in about 3 h one direction) only to see the Wunderland again. Hamburg is great, but the Wunderland is the most attractive place to meet there. The track is still growing and it's worth going there regulary (maybe once a year).

I haven't been there, and I'm not a model train buff, but I find it absolutely mind boggling what they created there. This video is farly old, by now they have expanded quite significantly. I also love the little humorous scenes they put in here and there. And it all started from a crazy idea that two guys had, which was concidered to be nonsense by most people. And look at it now...

I was there two times but you'll find something new after spending two whole weeks nonstop there. It has so many details that it is impossible to find all of them. In there is a restaurant designed after old long distance trains. They have old seats of decommissioned trains in there and painted windows that you can imagine to ride the train while eating.

The video itself is quite outdated. The mentioned numbers in the beginning have just risen. In 2016, they finished an italian section with Rome, the Vatican, Venice and the Vesuvius volcano that erupts every 15 minutes at night. In 2021 they opened a bridge over a canal into the neighbouring building, and the first south-american section of Rio de Janeiro. In ~2 weeks, on May 3rd, the second south-american part, Patagonia will be opened to the public (with a moving Drake Pasage, and calving glaciers). And Peru with the Atacama desert is already under construction, as is Monaco with a functional Formula 1 track. If you go there for the first time, you will be blown away, not only as train enthusiasts. But you also get tired as you are "bombarded" with so many different details. It is not uncommon for first-time visitors to leave the exhibition exhausted after only seeing around half of it. But you could go there every few months/years and see what is new.

I was there last week. Your mind will blow away if you see this for real. The airport is the most impressive feat.

I live in Hamburg and have visited the place a few times. For visitors to our city, i would advise - if you stay longer than 3 days, go and visit it, especially if you have children more than 3 years old. It's a great place and i like the pushbuttons with which you can influence the scenery. If you stay longer than 3 days and don't have children and are perhaps a bit more mature - go and visit the biggest cemetery of the City, Ohlsdorf. From the start, it has been planned as a huge park (with a cemetery). It has become so big that there are two bus routes which never leave the park. You can have great walks for hours without getting back to the same place! It's more than twice as large as London Hyde Park...

Since I lived close by to the miniaturenwonderland, I used to take my international friends there. Once my Swedish friend and I were walking through the Swiss Section with all the mountains. At some stairs there is a huge wall of a mountain part with several holes in it that are supposed to be small caves. Each cave light up, wenn you look into it, but its so tiny, you have to come really close with your eye. Inside are dwarfs or diamonds or sceletons… One hole was really dark, so I got really close with my eye peeping into it. That second a huge dinosaur eye lightened up inside, like right into my face - as if a veliceraptor was peeping from inside out. That was such a jump scare, I screamed and jumped off the stairs - everyone around me looked at me as if I lost my mind. My friend lughed her ass off - and the security guys behind the security cameras as well, I am pretty sure XD Such a cool prank!

I have absolutely no interest in miniatures, but when I visited the Miniatur Wunderland, I didn't want to leave. It's just that awesome, and small details to be discovered everywhere.

I was in Hamburg for a weekend, didn't preorder a ticket to get into the Miniatur Wunderland, didn't get in, no chance without preordering.

Somehow it's even more impressive when you're there. Every minute you're like 'how the fck does that even work?'. They had to invent a lot over the years, because noone had pulled off something like that before. I don't know if they have their channel subtitled, they go over the technical side of things for those who are interested. I'm not into building miniatures, but I'm nerdy enough to appreciate what they're doing. People visiting Hamburg should consider to stop by. I was blown away.

The "Miniature Wunderland" is indeed awesome...however: my biggest "disappointment" when I was there, was: the location looks way bigger on video, than it actually is. On site, the aisles are pretty crammed with other people, so bring along a large portion of patience - you'll need it. And don't fear missing out on anything - all the "shows" _(planes starting and landing, firefighters moving out to extinguish a burning house, ships and boats moving along the rivers, etc)_ follow a strict routine, everything that happens anywhere on the scenery, will happen again _(every 15 minutes, or so?)_ if you wait for it. So you won't miss a thing, *IF* you plan enough time to spend on site, and you have the necessary patience to (1) wait to get in a spot where you can see whatever happens there, and (2) to wait there for it to happen again.

I've been there twice now, and I will definitely visit it again. Even if I'm not into this hobby. There's so much to explore and every time new things to discover.

I’m from Cologne, I have visited the MiWuLa three times and plan to visit again soon. This film was made before my last visit and I still did not see everything shown in the film. I also don’t care about model railway, but it’s fascinating and amazing. Think it’s even better in real life.

3:06 This tiny little gas station is connected to a computer that downloads every few hours the prices from the homepage of the oil company and forwards them to the little display. So the prices are always correct. That shows how perfectly the reality is shown there. Another great example: I did the guided tour in summer 2012 and at the airport I said to the guide "Wow you are ahead of the time". Why??" "Well in real life Thai Airways doesn't have the A380 before November". 4:28 "Ah OK but I better don't tell the bosses. They are able to take it out until then and that would be a shame because it is so beautiful". 😀 What a great approach to perfection!!

I don´t care for model trains or any miniatures, but my family wanted to visit the Miniatur Wunderland and I absolutely loved it. It´s very immersive because it is interactive. I can´t wait to visit again and see want they have built since I´ve been there.

You have to visit this place regularly. It‘s expanding every year, crossing a waterway via a bridge bridge to a different building on the other side. South America has just opened and Patagonia with the Antarctic glaciers will open in Mai.

I've been to the Miniatur Wunderland a few years ago and I spent more than 5 hours in there with the feeling I could stay quite longer. You could visit it the 100th time and still don't detect everything. Highly recommended!

Hello from Berlin, I have been only once there in person and it much better than in the videos. I have to go a 2nd time there ... So many things are new e.g. Monte Carlo, South America, Antarctica ...

Today the miniatur wunderland is not just the most poluar tourist attraction of Hamburg, but of whole germany. And its is well deserved!

We‘ve been there several times, and it is just plain fun to see it all. If you‘re ever in Hamburg, you‘ve got to go!

I'm living in Hamburg and i love to go to the Miniature Wunderland. Have been there at least 6 times and everytime you see something you have not seen before. And additionally the Team is extending the Wunderland. Its awesome.

Everytime I am in Hamburg I like to visit Miniatur Wunderland cus it is still growing. And I love to "hunt" all the Easter Eggs. I think even if you are not really a person who is much interested in stuff like this you have fun to visit it and be amazed with how much detail and love this miniature world is build. If you are in Hamburg, please give it a go and check it out by yourself 😊

Have been there yesterday. I have nothing to to with model train, but it was awesome! Spend 3,5 hours there and still feel, I havent seen everything. Was awesome! Much better than expectet.

Just came back from Wunderland able a month ago from the states and this place will blow your mind. We got there right when it opened, and stayed for about 5 hours and we were absolutely exhausted trying to see everything in it. I enjoy model railroads and my wife does not, after visiting she became a model railroad enthusiast. I do not think you can see all the details in a week. Eventually I will return, to see more of the expansion. I recommend people to visit, you will not go home disappointed. Plus for about $20 euro's the price can't be beat. Be careful as they have many stairs up to the museum

That official video is a bit old. They added quite a few new countries and continents. But, still a good impression. I visited this with my wife a few years ago. On my wish. And guess who EXPECTATIONS.

If you wanna go there be sure to pre-order tickets. When I was there, I couldn´t get in because there was at least a 3 hour wait.

Our kids are now grown up but the still come with us to the Miniatur Wunderland. They "visit" the Switzerland part multiple times during our stay because of the little chocolate factory with little chocolates for free

I am from germany but not Hamburg and was there like 3 or 4 times and plan to go again and again - you do not get everything in when you are going there for a day and they expand it all the time. They are soon open up a south america part of the exhibition - they needed to build a real bridge over a water canal in hamburg to expand into another building because they ran out of space. It is amazing, they are working on a Formula 1 course for over 10 years no - like completly developing the technology to do an actuall formula 1 race on miniature scale. They always publish updates on thier KZfaq Channel. I am not really into model railways but this is AWESOME.

If you ever want to visit the Wunderland then plan more than only one day for it because of the size and amount of details. It is unbelievable!!

Been there roughly 15 times (and I don't live nowhere near close to MiWuLa) and still it does not get old. I still can discover things that I have missed before. For example, there is a WW2 U-Boat in Switzerland, it can be seen in your video at time stamp 6:20 down in the small lake in the valley. I discovered that only about 3 visits ago. By the way: This video is quite old and shows only all up to the airport. Since then Miniatur Wunderland has grown considerably. And they keep building and adding stuff. The next technological highlight (work in progress) will be the formula 1-race in Monaco. The race cars don't run in slots like on a carrera track. They are driven by a complex electronic below the track which generates an electromagnetic field and enables the cars to overtake in order to generate an always different outcome of the race. So, you better plan to stay a half of the day if you don't want to rush and miss all the fine details, which is the whole point after all.

I would be honored if you visited us in Germany. I would personally guide you through Miniatur Wunderland. But according to the current status in 2023, you need 3-4 days to see the entire Miniatur Wunderland.😁 There are now 2 warehouses connected by a glass bridge. The trains travel from one warehouse over the glass bridge to the other warehouse. Formula 1 is racing in Monaco. And you can also shrink yourself and experience Wonderland live as a figure using virtual reality.😇 This is an attraction of brilliant German engineering❤

Miniatur Wunderland is perfect for small kids and big kids! Period! Plan 6-8 hrs for your visit to catch every single detail.

I have been there in 2008. Was a nice way to spend the day after a training for work, but it has gown so muc hsince then it's just no comparison.

I was there only once, but would have been there more often if I wouldn't have moved to Bavaria one year later. But there are more visits planned, as the Italy section opened later, and Provence, Monaco and South America even later.

There is no such thing as a most impressive part - the details are funny, amazing, shocking, awesome - and the whole place is just worth a visit. You stay for hours and the entry fee is well spent. I say that as a woman in my 50s who does not like miniature trains at home and is not into all the technical staff. But the displays are even interesting if you do not care for the trains!

Ähm not only in Hamburg, in hole Germany!! Is the miniatur Wunderland the most visited Tourist destenation, in this year I was there at my hollyday in feb, 3 days in a row, it was my 20, 21 and 22 visit to the wunderland and I still belive that I didn't saw all. It's contantly renuvated and some details you don't even notice. It's a Mekka for railway fans, yes , but allso Women find there spotts there.

Ich bin Hamburger und muss gestehen, noch nie dort gewesen zu sein, obwohl ich, mal abgesehen während der Pandemie, seit der Eröffnung immer innerhalb von einer halben Stunde hätte dort sein können. Für Touristen, insbesondere mit Kindern, ist der Besuch ein Muss: Vieles von dem, was Hamburg zu bieten hat, ist zwar sehr schön, für Kinder aber eher langweilig. Das "Miniatur Wunderland" ist selbst spannend, und man ist direkt in der "Speicherstadt" und im Hafen.

I've been there only one time. But I must say, if you like stuff like this, you may spend hours and days there, coming back again and again, and you will discover a new detail every single time. It's so great!!!

To give you an idea about the insanity of this whole project: their latest project is to recreate the formula 1 racing course in Monaco fully computerized: for that (and in order to make the cars move realistically with flexible racing situations) they designed their own palatines that hardware producers had a hard time to produce! Nothing is „off the shelf“, they have an idea and develop it themselves!

If you are ever in Hamburg you have to visit it. It' just wounderfull. But book your Ticket online for the time you will arrive. Otherwise you have to wait some hours (on crowded days) to get in.

You should definitely visit the MiWuLa ..... and bring time .. a full day may just be enough time.. You will find a bistro there too .. because of exactly that. ;) I lived in hamburg til 2018 and visited the MiWuLa maybe five times or so over the years.. It's still developing and growing. It's nearly insane, when you visit it with some years in between .... you will possible be shocked what changed and came new. ;) And yes, i'm not such a railway freak ... more a tech freak. But .... whoa. ;) Millions and millions of details... it's insane. ;)

I've to say the videois really outdated. MiWuLa has grown a lot since the video was made. France and Italy were added years ago. Actually they added Monaco and Rio, a few days ago Patagonia was added. The Owners, Frederik and Gerrit Braun, added a second building and installed a bridge to the new building. Rain forest and far more to come.
