Jeff's playing first came to my attention in 1966 when I was only 13 and he blew me away completely. Have followed his career ever since and have been lucky to have seen him on several occassions. For me he is the only guitarist and his passing broke my heart, being a guitarist myself, when ever my playing get's in a rut I put on some of Jeff's music and I am inspired to pick up the guitar and try harder. Sadly there will never be another Jeff Beck but it's great to see you people who play guitar listening to Jeff and hopefully being inspired to pull sounds out of the guitar like Jeff did.

Check out Jeff Beck in 70's and 80's to see his genius and development. I'm 73 so have followed his whole career with fascination and admiration.

Jeff Guitar playing is other worldly at times, and it's not the just technique it's his choice of intervals and notes. He had such great taste, a very classy and magical musician.

Jeff Beck's passing is a terrible loss! He's completely unique and his music was always developing! But watching two guitarists enthuse over his playing is extremely satisfying and rewarding to watch! ❤

Thanks. Stevie Wonder wrote this song for Syreeta. He'd also 'gifted' it for Beck to do later. The metal nut was on the first Strat Plus guitar which I still have yet I changed everything out.The nuts warp, which is why Beck would keep many spares.

He is honoring Roy Buchanan who mastered the volume swell. He dedicated the song to Roy on the album.

Ok let get through this. Jeff was just insanely talented on the electric twanger. “Blow by Blow” was literally one of the first albums I purchased as a teenager I’m a lifelong drummer in Vinnie Colaiuta is so good Now Tal Wickenfield is so damn good , I’ve said it dozens of times, I’ve only been stopped in my tracks by a bassist, Tal is one of them , JPJ when I saw Zep as a teenager and went to see Bonham , Les Claypool, Billy Scheen , Stanly Clark and Angeline Saris Went to see Jeff Campitelli play the drums and Angeline was jamming with him, she flooded me, I started turning asking people who in the hell is this bassist 😂. Anyway, Jeff Beck is my absolute favorite guitarist

I saw Jeff in Akron, Ohio a couple of years ago. I remember telling my buddy who was with me that it would almost be worth the price of admission to watch Jeff play even if you couldn't hear it.

I have my strat bridge set up the same as Jeff's, 2 springs only and if you pull back or up on the whammy bar you need to achieve a tone and a half on th 'G' string....so open G pull back to achieve A#.

I will add this true story about Jeff in another site on You-Tube. I was a school kid when it happened. One day a new boy came into our class. We were told that this new kid would appear. He came in and sat down in the front before the Music teacher came in. It was well before the Bell, because we were all about 14 and in a special Art Class called Art one and Art two, for the last two groups in this section of Art in the school specialising in Art. The boy who came in was called Jeff Beck, and we already knew him as he had appeared several weeks before. One day he came in with a pile of stuff in his hands and went straight to the back of the room and sat down on the floor in the Teacher's cupboard which was ajar. We had some time to go before the bell went for the afternoon session. The boys at the back of the room talked to Jeff, and he told them that he was trying to make a guitar. I immediately thought, that oh dear, there is no way Jeff could make a guitar out of what he had there! However a few sounds came out of the cupboard, and I thought, " We did not see any miniature radios in his hands, what could that be?". Eventually he came out and sat in the front. It was a mystery, but since then Jeff has told people that he did try to make quite a few small guitars which did not make many good sounds, so he was trying his best. Eventually he came out and sat at his desk. and our music lesson. began. We really wanted him to succeed, in his endeavours, and respected him as he was a bit older than us. This was in our last year of schooling. He was talented in drawing which is quite usual in musicians and artists. All the class would have tried to find any news of him over the years and eventually after I had had children I heard that he had been playing guitar up the River Thames in a famous place and then when I moved to Huddersfield Yorkshire, I heard, "High Ho, Silver Lining!" which he had been made to sing, and thought to myself, well he might not like that but he is going in the right direction. I imagine that most of the class would have looked out for news of him. As time went on he became more and more famous, and I was pleased for him. He certainly had rules to live by, as a boy came up to him and began boasting that his Dad had made £140,000. Jeff told him quietly that that was not something he should boast about because other pupils who are poor, or who do not have much money would feel dreadful, "Don't say things like that!" said Jeff," you could hurt other people's feelings!" I remembered that all my life, that Jeff already had rules to live by in order to respect others, and I was pleased that he was like that! Also the story that Jeff tried to make guitars was also true, as they still existed in their tiny forms, like a museum of Jeff Beck's past teenage life, and his ambitions! Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

On volume swells, I think it's possible that he might have had a special volume knob designed to fit his purpose. I remember hearing that Edward Van Halen had a volume knob that only rotated like 90 degrees or something like that.

I find it is easier to use the roll volume technique on a telecaster. You use your pinky to roll the volume knob after you pick the note. You can play runs of notes fairly fast with a little practise. You might checkout "Roy Buchanan - Live from Austin TX" Nov 1976. I think Roy pioneered the technique and used it extensively in his rendition of "Hey Joe" at that concert.

When you ride the vibrato it gives the guitar notes a floating feeling. You just have to not over do it. Do just enough to float it by flattening and sharpening.

I started out playing guitar with truth album. the only way i know how to play is jeff Beck style. You're good at what you study. I had to back off playing it so I could find my own style. It's not hard to cover if you're used to his style. If you have the fingers for it.

Crank the amp, back of the volume until it's barely breaking up.. Voila. Sweet spot.

Finesse is the word you’re looking for. Jeff could strangle a tune from a rubber ducky. 😶

PS. You're totally wrong about the Strat bridge and range of whammy bar. Just listen to Pink Floyd's "Sorrow" on the "Pulse" video. Set up properly it's as versatile as a locking trem. But you ought to know this stuff? Finally, just to correct your pupil, he doesn't use the whammy at all on Nessum Dorma! Sorry guys.

His Strat is highly modified with hi-fi quality pots, custom pickups and a vintage roller nut. He also had the highest floating trem you've seen!

Playing fast doesn't make you technical. Nobody I've heard uses as much varied technique in their playing as Jeff Beck, imo.
