Took my 24-year-old kid to this show in Los Angeles Besides the mind melting talent, three things stood out to me 1) it was a seated arena and literally no one sat in their seats. If you didn't stand up, you'd miss the show. Everyone was standing up 2) these guys played for over 3 hours with one short break in the middle and played Moving Pictures start to finish 3) light show and sound was the best I ever heard in 200 concerts, we couldn't hear right for 24 hours I will accept father of the year for this

Some people complain about Geddy’s older voice not having the same punch. But that’s to be expected. Their later albums reflected what he could do at the time and the live shows supported this. But he could still do most older things. Surely not the screaming first albums but they entertained. And honestly when you’re at the show, joined by thousands of peers for one reason: to see three legends do their thing, it was amazing.

@mpmlopes

I'm like 99% sure that Alex's solo was improvised and if you hear another performance from the same tour, it won't be the same. Alex is clearly the type that has a solo that he created and is in the recording, and then live he'll improvise around his original idea. In this performance he really took it to another level. This is a case of flow and energy from the music, the other musicians, and the audience, channeling and producing an epic performance. The performance was going great, the audience was completely into it, so Alex got caught in that and just went for it. You can see the same thing with Neal on that last drum fill, he got swept by the energy of the performance going so well, the other musicians getting carried away, and he just completely went for it, at the end of the fill he still needed to channel the remaining energy somewhere, hence that movement with his arms and face, because he couldn't do it with the drums since the music required him to end the fill. While Alex and Geddy can channel that energy into moving around and jumping, Neil is sitting on the drums, when he can't channel it to the drums, he has to direct it somewhere else.

You need to listen to the original studio version and compare it to this version. What a difference 40 years of experience makes and it's fun to see that they still love what they do and have a bit of a devilish playful aspect to all of their personalities which perfectly translates to the trio that is RUSH! And oh yeah, they still rock hard with the best of them.
@RoarOfWolverine

The original cut also had a different drummer and though John Rutsey was a really good drummer, he was nowhere near Neil’s world. Just the addition of Neil changed the sound of this song a lot. The love version on All The World’s A Stage showed a tremendous change in the song and that was just a few years after the original recording, yet Neil had completely rewritten the song.

Then a dude in front of me turned to me and did like a triple take, then faced ME whole show lmao I said NUMEROUS times, that's Neil dude, turn around, you're missing it, idiot!! He wandered off drunk and returned with roses for me lmao... I turn to the bros and was like "this is a good example of the freak magnet in action"😂 they loved it bc he bought us all 3 rounds of beers lmaooooo... The Magnet comment was a good one. Geddy and Alex have been best friends since they were 13 the same age they both started playing instruments. They have been playing together since 1968 when Alex formed the band. All three of them were not only band mates but also the best of friends. Dinner with Rush would be a good one for you to react to as you will see how much fun these guys had with each other. Also, The bit they were playing at the end was Cygnus X I book 1 from a Farewell to Kings then the continuation Cygnus Book 2 is on Hemispheres . That would be two awesome ones to check out. Geddy hits some incrediblely high notes in Cygnus book 1 Cheers

I almost always prefer the studio over a live version because the sound is usually superior without the crowd "white noise". This is good, though & keeps the crowd as background noise. The exception would be Queen who used their crowds as part of the live experience.

Incredible performance! By the way, on this "Time Machine" tour, Rush was always pushing WM to be more and more of a jam, but they didn't always play it exactly like this. I was at the Red Rocks concert -- near Denver -- and WM was, again, blistering. But, I went back and watched it recently and I saw that it differs slightly from the Cleveland show, in a small but significant way. Alex....Alex just ABUSED his guitar (like it owed him money), and brought out a solo that almost beats the one you just heard! The Red Rocks shows -- over the years, they came back to RR a few times -- are special, that's for sure!

I think the most stunning aspect of this live version is that you literally can't see this coming based on the studio version. Such is Rush; they use their studio version as the baseline and build up from it for their live shows, while other bands can only try to match their studio versions in their live shows.

I am a huge Rush fan, so I am so biased with these three guys. Neil: drum legend. Alex: a guitar player’s guitar player. But in my opinion, pound for pound Geddy is by far the most impressive musician I have ever literally seen. With writing, bass playing, sun h playing, foot pedal playing and singing and usually all at the same time….. no one has the right to have so much talent.
