You know...he was known to super glue his callouses back on when he stripped it off his finger. _No..seriously._ "According to Stevie’s guitar technician, René Martinez he most often played GHS Nickel Rockers (and sometimes Boomers) in the following gauges: .013 - .015 - .019p - .028 - .038 - .058 As discussed in point 2, these aren’t typical .013s-they’re lighter on the top end and a bit heavier on the bottom end. This made them easier to bend, while still giving him a hot and heavy tone when he played rhythm. Now does this mean that if you string up your strat with these gauges you’re going to sound like SRV overnight? Probably not. As with most guitarists, the secret to tone often lies in the fingers." - SRV Archive

I was blessed to have seen this man twice before he died. I was at his last show at Alpine Valley the night his helicopter crashed. People who have just now became aware of his absolute greatness ask why the crowds that Stevie played for didn't seem to be enjoying the performances but believe me were were in total amazement....we couldn't believe what we were witnessing...and what it FELT like to hear that in person.

Next thing you need to see is him playing "Voodoo Child", specifically the video that's live in Austin 1989. Good clear footage. You'll know it's the right one if he's dressed in black. Best Blues guitarist ever imo and, by all accounts, one of the kindest, most humble human beings you'd ever want to meet. We lost something special when we lost him, in more ways than one. Stevie Ray & his music are a gift. So glad you're discovering him.💙

Considered by many, including myself, to be the best ever! Winner of a slew of awards, a bunch of grammys, first white person to be inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame & voted into the Rock and Roll Hall Fame by over 18 million people. Major influence to a whole generation of top guitarists. Admired & idolized by all the greats that came before. Referred to as legendary by the likes of Albert King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, B. B. King & anybody else you can think of. Beat drugs & booze and helped countless others to do the same. A great musician & a good soul. Now playing in heaven with the angels. Killed in a chopper crash in late August, 1990 leaving a concert. Such a tragedy for the world! He was poised on the brink of superstardom.

I honestly believe that he does NOT have one song/performance that is not inspiring and entertaining to watch and listen to without praising him. I envy your position that you’re about to witness every performance for the first time, but honestly every video I’ve seen of him I’ve watched dozens of times and I can say I never get tired of watching them. In fact, they only get more like able the more you watch them. I could recommend one video, but really ANY that you watch is fire!! One of my favorites is “Mary Had A Little Lamb live in Austin “ you get to also watch one of the top keyboardist in Reese Wynans!! Put magic.

Stevie Ray Vaughan was a guitar 🎸beast. He played with 13 gauge strings which tore up his fingertips. When his callouses would come off, he'd just Super Glue them back on and keep playing. He never played a song the same way twice. A lot of his sweating back then was due to mass quantities of cocaine. He got clean awhile before he was killed. I honestly thought his drugged out performances were stellar. We love him and miss him here in Texas. RIP Stevie Ray ❤
