These are very common issue for dogs that have had minimal environmental exposure when young, or dogs that have been conditioned early on (accidentally by us, typically through misinformation in some puppy schools) to place extreme value in the environment at the expense of the handler.
The answer lies in the basics. Short, basic exercises, but a huge volume of them overtime, done carefully. Creating emotional change takes time, we can’t rush it. Being aware of when our dog is ready to take the next step is also a skill we need to develop.
