Wait, was Ish the sailor that ended up part of the community in sewers? I think you discover his first letter in a boat after you jump off the bridge from Pittsburgh. Then you pick up more letters and ending in the sewers which stressed the fuck out of me playing the game lol
@Sirvikrail
@Sirvikrail Жыл бұрын
@blackspar Ishmael, or Ish was a guy that encountered a family as he returned to shore to try to resupply. According to his notes when Joel finds his ship on the beach (this is after they escape from the bandits and jump off the bridge), Ish had been surviving out at sea for a good while. Up to the cave segment in the game (and a little before that) you find some of Ish’s letters talking about how he viewed the family as his own and a few other survivors as well. But there is a letter in the cave saying something went wrong or one minor lapse in judgment and the entire thing went to shit. Ish and a Mother (from the family that befriended him) were the only 2 left alive when you find his last note in the house (before Sam (or was it Henry?) gets bit.

It's true what they say: comedic actors can easily be the amonst the greatest dramatic actors, yet choose comedy because it's harder to make people laugh than it is to make them cry. Robin Williams, Jim Carrey or Adam Sandler proved it, and now, Nick Offerman did too. Hell, Nick did a masterclass. I would've NEVER imagined such a performance from him. Unreal. What an episode and show. I can only imagine what they'll do with Ish's story.

Yeah, it’s weird. I’ve cried for other shows but somehow this story didn’t hit me as hard as it seems to have hit others. Something about the circumstances in the show mimicking things I’ve experienced (on a much lesser stakes level) in my past which have left me having a lot of difficulty finding love or trusting others. The emotional reactions I have to other shows are powerful and at expected times though.

@@elck3 I think many people are crying over the sadness.. but there's also a particular set of people, queer people really, who have just seen an authentic, loving, genuine pair of lovely people find each other in the worst of circumstances and find purpose in taking care of one another all the way to the end - on their terms. And that's what got me. I found it hopeful and a raw look at the kind of happiness you can find in the worst of times.

For a gay love Story to touch every from gay to straight viewers just shows how powerful the story was and how even in a dark bleak world the love story was a representation of love and hope in that touched everybody’s heart showing that even that darkness love and hope always find a way. Also I feel that hope was passed on to Joel who suddenly realized he has only Ellie now as everybody he cared about is now dead. One of the viewers said that they felt assaulted, or something like that. I don't know if I would go that far, since nobody has to watch the show if they don't want to. But the episode is, in my opinion, a case study in how to work the audience emotions. And of course that violin piece is just amazing. Violins go straight for the heart 'strings'. For whatever reason, they didn't give credit to the song in the end credits. So I had to do some digging. Anyhow, this is the emotion-triggering song played at the end of the latest episode of The Last of Us: Max Richter - On the Nature of Daylight

I was concerned about the deviation from the source material. But upon reflection, understanding of TV production (budget might be higher than most shows, but they still have to limit the amount of action beats as it can be expensive to do so), and having gone through the game and still remembering it even a decade later, this actually arrives at the same motivational beat for Joel's character change that was present in the game. Both are equally effective in their respective medium and help to drive the story forward for Joel and Ellie. I really enjoyed this episode, it reinvigorated my interest in the series, and it makes me excited that Mazin could actually push for major changes in TLOU2's adaptation. That story really needs a good rewrite to make it work and I feel his team might be up to snuff on that. Look forward to how they do all the major beats and change the way they arrive to those iconic moments in TV format.

true, atleast they are happy here in the show than being miserable in the game. Im familiar with the game's story so yeah I prefer this one. However, its a shame we cant see any interaction with bill and ellie this time.

The game won game of the year right? Welp, this show is following in that games footsteps for show the year. Seriously how can you make people cry FOR THREE EPISODES IN A ROW! God help us when we get to Henry and Sam.... God help us all.

At first I was afraid. I was petrified. Didn't know how I was gonna live without Bill beside Joel's side? But then I stayed up all night thinkin how I maybe wrong? And I grew strong, And I learned how to get along...

The one thing I wish they would have changed, would be when Frank asks Bill if he loves him, and then say’s, then love me like I want you to, I wish he’d said “Like I need you too”, I think that just sounds better myself. Just the most heartbreaking & beautiful episode, I’ve seen of any show.

What's so brilliant about the story is that Bill and Frank are very different individuals. Frank is about living life to the fullest (painting, decorating, growing fruit, being social, and making friends). He has a classic extraverted personality. In contrast, Bill is definitely the introverted person who cares about practicality and privacy. It's no surprise that Frank wants to end his life before this health condition gets even worse. He wants a dignified death and doesn't want to be any more burden to Bill who has aged significantly. One thing no one talks about is where they sleep. During the night of raiders, Frank and Bill were sleeping upstairs. But in 2023, they were both sleeping on the main level. This is very typical for seniors to avoid staircases. Incredible details in this episode.

Akasan's reaction bothered me lmao Like, wow, what a surface-level interpretation of Frank's motivations here. Sure, maybe it is selfish. But I'd say someone living a life of pain and misery from a degenerative disease that gets worse and worse by the day as they gradually lose control of their own body has the right to a selfish request or two. What should he do? Stick around until he wastes away completely just so Bill isn't lonely?

100%... I mean... I think they were both very aware of what was happening - without proper medical care. Without the hope of a cure or fix to their situation. There's something to be said for the dignity of going out the way you wanted - and being loved by your best friend, getting married and having that last romantic dinner... I mean... it was the right thing to do for them.

He could have given Bill more warning, poisoned his own wine, and/or marry Bill on literally any other day. If you love someone, their needs come first. Bill loves Frank. Frank loves what Bill does for Frank.

I understand not wanting to go through with being the one to end your lovers life…but you also have to think about their suffering. I wouldn’t want my wife to suffer because of my selfishness of wanting to keep her around longer. I love my wife too much to watch her suffering through all of that pain.
