To temper your shock and despair, know that in the book, his poison was specifically designed for the mountain, it's too bad they didn't get to that in the show because sir Gregor was screaming bloody murder for WEEKS afterwards. Everyone in the red keep could hear it the whole time, rest assured, he suffered unimaginable pain for a fortnight, it was fated the second he took ANY hits from the spear

Not really, Oberyn practically had control of the whole fight. If he actually wanted to kill him without bs, he could do it in a few seconds. The moral of the story is to keep your distance if the enemy is still alive on the ground instead of getting cocky

I was studying abroad when this season came out and my parents and my sister were watching it. I read the books so I knew how this would play out. They all were so convinced Oberyn would win because his cause was so just. I would have paid anything to watch their reaction. 😅

This is one of the few parts I read ahead before watching. I sort of wish I hadn't. It really dampened the shock of seeing it on the screen. Not just the visual shock of how Oberyn's death looked, but the shock of how Oberyn managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The first time I saw this I couldn't react. I simply stood there without any thoughts, as if I had forgotten everything Oberyn had said during the fight. I could only think about Ellaria's scream for a few moments, until I regained consciousness.

The gore aside this is also a great tragedy in the show, you feel for Oberyn and Tyrion. You want them to have their justice. THEN the gore, the excruciating gore. So close to justice. This is such great writing, nothing has ever shocked me in TV as this.

This moment was so strongly emotional nobody noticed how awful the editing was. Continuity mistake after continuity mistake, and yet, one of the best scenes of GoT. This show was great.

The show was so damn good back then. In a normal fantasy story Oberyn, the superior fighter with the just cause, takes this but since he tried to take some weird high ground he got his head smashed. Oberyn puts him down like the rabid animal he is and he gets to stop the Dorne story before it happens.

Honestly one of my favourite the mountain moments, not from the kill itself but that one line "some dead man". He gives so little fucks about the fight and is so confident in his victory Like mace windu against the emperor in revenge of the sith If he just killed the mountain instead of turning it into a speech demanding confessions he would have won Would he have survived till the end, eh maybe, maybe not it's got but he at least would have lived longer and tyrion would have won his trial by combat But then again that's too nice and nothing in got could ever be nice

Despite The Mountain being one of the most vile and evil characters in GOT he is one of my favourites 😂. Him crushing Oberyn’s head with his bare hands holy shit! However, Oberyn was dead the moment he let his guard down and got to close to Clegane. Bronn put it perfectly, that you best tire him out and then strike but one stupid mistake and when he gets his hands on you, you’re dead. Also If you think he’s bad in the show, then you’ll be glad they left out what he does in the books.
