The direct comparisons are very interesting. In my humble opinion, I think the Quad Cortex can handle the low mids, especially on palm mutes a little bit better than the Kemper. On the other side, the highs on the Cortex are more ,, smooth'' and ,, polished '' while the Kemper keeps even the really high frequencies which can be good, depending on your mixing situation. But the most important thing, both are great and Cabs or IR's matter the most !
@pablosrf38812 жыл бұрын
On point, I've tried both in mixing and the Kemper cuts easily, it looks like it has more quality/frequency but you need to EQ it a lot to tame those low mids palm mutes and harshness on high freqs. The Neutral DSP / Quad Cortex sims have a more ready sound in the palm mutes, low mids, not needing EQ or any trick to sound amazing, but its a little harder to cut in the next, definitely you need to EQ the highs to bring that extra power. Its like they are opposites in this regards... I prefer the Neural sound tho in the end, at least for me.
@FernandoRoma3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Both did a great job. In my opinion the major difference was on the Engl palm mutes, there is some "fuzzy" thing in the real amp that both kemper and QC didn't captured. One of the best comparisons i´ve see! Thanks!

Yes, there have been a few if not many comments in various YT vids that the QC capture gain seems low. The presence to me has been lacking during capture as well. QC should address these concerns and certainly would make a lot of folks happy and to say the least, give Kemper more competition other than the price. Well done Mendel!!!

Perhaps the QC can manage the harmonic spectrum better, but I truly do prefer the Kemper, cause it sounds kinda more on the low spectrum, though perhaps as you said k, the palm muting or the noise is even augmented . In the end, this seems more natural and real to me.. But it depends on the needs of recording, or what you are searching for, of course!

So Excited for this comparison, Really great job Mendel... The verdict for me is that they have a slightly different tonal character but none is a clear winner...which i was hopping for...
@adamstrachn3 жыл бұрын
Really interesting. They all sound good, which is to be expected. I think the Quad Cortex has a touch less highs that poke out compared to the Kemper. But that's not necessarily a bad thing on either product. The Quad Cortex has a better defined tight mid range. Like Psycroptic tight. Not as 'fluffy' as the Kemper. Quad Cortex wins in my opinion. Sounds a bit tighter, better harmonics in the distortion & has more clarity overall without harshness.

not really here it is like it has a better compression effect going though. the kemper is annoying and has a cocked wah sound. Every time I play it it bugs me on all profiles bar a splawn and maybe a couple more.
@MirageLinne3 жыл бұрын
The tonal balance between the QC and the real thing is so spot on, but it almost sounds like the QC had the gain turned up a little more. Like the low mid of the real thing gets a little wooly on the QC. The kemper has that, but the high end felt less rich than both the real and the QC. both not quite there, but in a mix? I would be screwed trying to make out which is which. Amazing technology all of it!
@nangko3 жыл бұрын
Don't think I would sell my Kemper for difference in tone quality. I think Kemper is good enough. But since the QC is quite compact and also an audio interface, can it also replace a good audio interface? That would be one device less in my setup. :) And if the preamps are good enough, maybe in the future it will also have great models or captures for vocal signals and wil it be the device that can do it all?

This is a very well produced and helpful video. Thanks a lot! In the direct capture of the amps the Kemper did the better job and I wouldn‘t use what came out of the QC there because it lacked low end definition and chord clarity. But when capturing a whole signal chain including the cab the QC definitely did the significantly better job. Adding the fact that the Quad Cortex can do so much more in terms of I/O and processing, has such an incredibly well thought-out workflow and is also perfectly compact with a display that even my bad eyes will be able to see it just makes it the better overall device in my opinion. It is still lacking in terms of the number of amps and effects but it already makes up for that by the quality of the sounds not lacking that last bit of high-end and always sounding slightly digital like an Axe FX for example. I will already buy one now but I can‘t even imagine how good it will be in 1-2 years with all the updates that will be coming.

The QC has something more which is missing from the Kemper profiles. In my opinion, it is a clear win for the Quad Cortex. Also, you can modify the QC captures to match the sound of the real amp better, if your capture turns out to be a little bit brighter/darker. For me, the Kemper profiles sound like as there is a ‘blanket’ over the cab.

I think that if you lower the definition and play a little with the amp section parameters you will make a closer sound to the real amp. Especially the definition that I think that adds these strange mids in Kemper!!Also I think Direct is closer to the real amp..thats what I use all the time, Direct/Merged - also for the Studio profiles except the Definition that adds these bad mids and need to take Definition about to 5-7 ( even better lower Definition before refinement) You should go to Cab section and add high shift from 0.1 to 0.3...never more than 0.4 needed. These will make profiles sound more open. Check them and you gonna see Kemper comes closer than Cortex

QC handles palm mutes a little bit better than Kemper, Kemper is a little bit better on open chords, both are fairly close to the real amp. I prefer the Kemper a little bit more than the QC, speaking strictly of capture/profile capacities. I have a lot of plugins from NeuralDSP, while there are some I like and some I don't, they are all implemented very well. Kemper on the other hand is so amazing, it's 11 years old at this point and still goes toe to toe against Axe Fx, Helix and QC.

However, if you play live, get the real amp! Nothing feels like a real amp! I have all 3 and can tell you nothing beats the real amp!
@Mendelian3 жыл бұрын
I could reamp 4 DI’s simultaneously, with the Kemper i’d had to do 1 at a time. So just by saving that much time the QC wins easily. I won’t sell the Kemper just yet, having some magic tones in there that i can’t capture just right for now. And live i’d never do real amps again, i remember back in Aborted we switched from real amps to Kempers and it was the best move ever made.
@musicinsession2 жыл бұрын
@@Mendelian don't get me wrong mate, the QC is far superior in terms of tech and especially UI. Seriously, the people at kemper have the worst UI person ever, and I am not just talking about the units, the app for the pc is fucking terrible and so inflexible! But in terms of sound (profiles), the difference is pretty negligible, especially in the mix. (BUT then again I always get my songs reamped through a "real" amp) So yeah... I wouldn't just go and spend my hard earned money on a QC if you already have a Kemper and, like you very well say, have invested in a lot of good profiles ready to go. Regarding playing live with these things... For me personally, nothing beats the real amp with a real cab. I have a mesa mark V 25 and a 2x12 cab that gives me a vibe like nothing else...
