I’m South Korean. This is disturbing to the core. What the fuck. Most of us aren’t K-POP idols thank you very much. Our culture is about hard work, self discipline, self-control, making a life for yourself, and eventual enlightenment and self-actualization. It is NOT being “cute” and wearing weird accessories.

The glorification of Asians and Asian culture through anime, Kpop, and Kdramas has made many people forget about the unpleasant things in east Asian culture such as the high suicide rate, plastic surgery rates, and powerful families/gangs that can pressure police and courts. Most Asians don't look like cute anime girls or Kpop idols and things aren't so pretty beneath the surface

Anyone that changes to become "Chinese", hell, just put them through the start of COVID-19 where Chinese people were discriminated against and killed for "starting the pandemic." Racism towards the Chinese really reached an all-time high near that time. There's still racism as well occurring because of our "tiny eyes". And also "rice". Those are some of the more common examples of racist remarks towards the Chinese.

I don't think necessarily, if they introduce themselves to new people with being korean or japanese and those people are decent and respectful people they will accept it (I mean how can you not accept the race of someone). I for example also tell people I am egyptian when they ask for my race or heritage, but I can't speak the language and I don't "look" typically egyptian either, but it doesn't change the fact that I am trough my parents and I am thankful for having friends who don't take that away from me just because of my looks and language and instead respect me (even my arab friends) I know that is a different situation than the one in the video, but I do think there are some similarities. Personally I don't see a problem with what these girls are doing as long as they are happy and respectful, it doesn't really hurt anyone, whatever floats your boat kind of thing, you don't really have to befriend them. But also I think it is to overthink if you gain happiness from random people getting laughed at and I wouldn't deem that as any better behaviour then what they are doing.

@@MrsRedMink yeah maybe i was being a bit harsh, and i see what you're saying, but i feel like the situations are a bit different of actually being part of a race/ethnicity and just pretending to achieve an "aesthetic". if someone were to respect the culture normally without claiming to have changed their race, that'd be a different story, it's good to respect other cultures. but i think the problem is within how they take an entire race and culture and boil it down to an aesthetic. I'm not asian so i can't say too much about it, but it feels incredibly ignorant for someone with barely any knowledge about the culture outside of like kpop and anime, as shown in the video, to claim themselves as that race to be "cute". i take back what i said about wanting them to be laughed at (and i edited my comment to be a little less harsh), because i think it's clear that these girls have an internal self-hatred and that's not something that should be fueled further, however i still heavily disagree with what they're doing

I was heavily discriminated against for being Asian (although I’m not sure why students from the Phillipines, a country *pretty much next to mine* were safe from being threatened and laughed at) and now seeing people fetishising Asians, it makes my heart bleed. I’ve heard a couple of stories where people have gone to countries like Japan and had full on *existential crisises* because no one wears kimonos or uniforms and none of the teenagers were incredibly attractive like they are represented as in anime. I feel like Vietnam along with countries like India, Thailand, Pakistan, Mongolia, and Singapore are brushed aside because they’re “boring” (someone else’s words after I discussed this with them) and they don’t match the idealised aesthetic of Korea and Japan. If you want to learn about the values, culture, food, everyday life, or even politics of the country, go ahead. But just claiming to be Japanese or Korean because it’s “cute”, “desirable” or “special”… no one around you is gonna take you seriously.

It won't be called as the largest continent if it had only 3 countries. And if you like their culture, values, foods, tradition you can just go on a tour or if you want to study there, yes, you absolutely can. But that doesn't make you Asian just because you feel connected to it. Claiming to be Asian just because it's "Cute" or "Special" is just stupid. I like the fact that everyone who wanna be asian only admires the "kawaii" aspect of certain countries like south korea and Japan while theres alot of other amazing countries rich in culture and traditions. These people are so delusional that the line between reality and this illusion is blurred. They cant tell the difference and the sad thing is reality is far more disappointing than anime and kdramas. Being south korean or japanese is a nationality, but actually appreciating their cultures and traditions is dedication; might not make you one of them but you can still be accepted. the subliminal one is not how manifestation or subliminals work, I've seen people do a similar thing with becoming "endogenic systems" (which don't exist, if you genuinely are a system but don't have trauma it's more likely that you've either normalised to the point that you no longer view it as traumatic in any way or you don't remember it and do not realise that you have been through it which are both actually common trauma responses) through subliminals and manifestation which will not work, manifestation and subliminals are for things like mood changing, health changing, getting more money etc. which are all things that change throughout a person's life (you can also manifest people into your life, e.g. a romantic partner) you can't manifest traits and impossible changes such as race and a disorder that develops before the age of 9 as a teenager.

Korean American here! I just, wow. I was adopted to two white parents before I even turned one, and they tried with all of their might to make sure I never pursued an interest in my Korean origins. As I grew up with all of my all-white peers treating being Asian as a joke, I came to resent the way that I looked and, to an extent, all things remotely Asian. Going away to college was the first time I was able to meet other people that looked like me and learn about cultural things I've missed out on. I've since tried to reclaim parts of the culture I was robbed of as it's like reclaiming a piece of me that was always supposed to be there; be it through language, music, media, and historical dives. I've been fascinated by what I've seen, heard and learned, and am excited to someday visit Seoul to see that city and country I was born in! Unfortunately, I was also introduced to the idea of Korean fetishization. People who idealize being a Korean to an unhealthy degree and summing the entire culture up essentially as either an infantilized/cutesy culture where people are fragile porcelain dolls or BTS. It hurts when people tell me that I don't LOOK like a real Korean compared to their favorite K-Pop group. Bruh, I was born in Seoul. But it also makes me feel gross when I tell someone I'm Korean and they start salivating at the thought they're meeting "a real Korean," like I'm no longer a human, I'm just the subject of their weird, dehumanizing obsession. In short, please, PLEASE don't be an RCTA. It's harmful to try and claim culture and genetics (like, wtf) that were never yours to begin with. It just stigmatizes learning the culture entirely as cringe. As such, it only stands to makes it harder for people like me to try and reclaim what we've lost without a tainted sense of shame and embarrassment.

Oh wow I’m the same. I’ve been adopted by French parents tho but same they’ve not been really into showing me stuff from SK, so I had to use the internet. Everything you wrote is something I could’ve written myself. It’s a bit weird to read about so many similar experiences. Especially… the fetishization… and the problem with beauty standards… Btw just in case: the association InKAS (Korean adoptees) offer a yearly one or two weeks long summer camp for South Korean adoptees wanting to visit the motherland. It is free! Look it up :) I personally didn’t have the chance to participate because of work but I know some people who did and they had a lot of fun!

@@SisselSashaI feel as if why they don’t show you the other culture is a pretty easy answer. They adopted you from a different country because they wanted you to grow up in a safer and likeminded culture as they’re own

When the secret message was played, I spent all of my time to dissecting the frames and then when I finally got to it, it was just this random, random joke 💀😭
