WE'RE BACK AT IT AGAIN! It's been a hot second since I've last taken on the world of anime, having you all send in prompts of real anime or fake ones you made up and guessing which ones were which, but it feels SO GOOD to return to it!! And this time, we take on one of my favorite genres: Mystery and Suspense!! Boy, did you all throw some freakin cool ones my way this time!! Also? I kinda want Thomas to do a "Real or Fake Pokemon edition" where instead of anime prompts he is given Pokedex entries because I know there are real Pokedex entries that sound too wild to be true. Depending on Thomas's knowledge of Pokemon it might make for a fun video

For “Bungo Stray Dogs,” the Bungo (pronounced Boon-gō) means “literary” This is because all of the characters and their powers are based off of classic authors. Since the main cast are Japanese though, all the authors names might not be immediately recognizable.

12:55 fun fact - the ‘bungou’/‘bungo’ (written as 文豪 in Japanese) means literary (or great literature/literary master), making the title roughly translate to ‘literary stray dogs’. Most of the cast in this anime are named after classic Japanese literary authors. So that’s what it refers to :)

Addition for more info: the weretiger mentioned in the video is named after Japanese author Atsushi Nakajima, and his ability is based off the irl Atsushi’s short story ‘Tiger Poet’. Just interesting info I like sharing

I love that all of the characters' powers are related to their irl counterparts! I can't tell you how much the literature nerd in me adores it, and just ;A; All of the characters in Bungou are named after literary authors (port mafia and armed detective agency are the Japanese authors and then the others that come up are from other places) BunStray is one of my favourite anime ugh I love it

It warms my heart to know that you both know and love Detective Conan. Such a underrated anime and manga in the west, which I blame marketing for as they really tried to make a anime where there's blood and death 99% of the time into a kids show. A dude loses his head in the first episode how did they think it was a good idea??? Anyways, I love this series to hell and back. It's so freaking good. Though it does stress me out lol when the characters are in danger. I literally can't get past episode 425 because I'm too scared of the BO hurting Ran. XD

You know what would be an excellent challenge? Since there are anime that have either a subplot or a single episode that’s different from the overall main plot, why not do a “Real or Fake Anime: SUBPLOT/FILLER EPISODE edition?” Maybe even say the title of a real or fake anime and describe a plot that lasts for 1-2 episodes. I don’t know how well it’ll work out, but it would be a great challenge!😁

I dunno, you would have to know some long-running anime (cough, One Piece) _very_ well in order to make sure the made-up filler hasn't already been used. No filler plot is too crazy to be real.

@@groofay I was honestly thinking about that after I typed it. However, I think it would work with slightly different rules. Like, you tell the specific anime series and the plot of a specific episode, then see if Thomas can figure out if that actually happened in the anime or not (all of the anime are real, but the plot can either be real or fake). So you’re not trying to find out if the SERIES is real, but if the EPISODE in that series is. Or maybe even a Real or Fake Anime video where we give titles and plots of MANGAS, and Thomas has to figure out if they’ve been adapted to anime yet or not.

For anyone interested in Banana Fish (20:20-21:40), it is a really great anime AND it's LGBTQ+, but just know that there is a MASSIVE trigger warning for sexual assault (including with children). It's not romanticized at all, thankfully, but it is heavy and prevalent throughout the entire show--there is no skipping it. Proceed at your own risk!

4:20 i knew it was going to be higurashi from the description but it was great to hear it. That is one of my favorites. It is very violent and psychological but the whole mystery behind what is actually happening is fascinating. I would suggest it to anyone who is even slightly ok with horror plot lines. If you think it will scare you just watch it during the day or something. It is brilliant and when there isn't brutal murder and "posessed people" going around it is also pretty funny and light hearted. Like he said the town is generally a pretty normal town when it comes down to it.

I really need to get into more mystery anime I just started Moriarty The Patriot and I love Bungo Stray Dogs currently. I used to love Case Closed that one has probably been my fav mystery anime crazy that one is still putting out episodes.

As a speech-language pathologist I have to say that the bit where Thomas has to order the pizza without being able to use certain words is actually huge in displaying how hard speech-language difficulties can be when it comes to performing certain tasks that we take for granted. Fun fact this specific type of language difficulty is known as anomia which is the technical term for word-finding difficulties

BUNGOU STRAY DOGS!!! also bungo stray dogs translates to literary stray dogs. all the characters are named after real life authors!! i really suggest watching it! the manga is still ongoing and season 4 was just announced a few months ago :)
