Well, I can read Portuguese (and I live in Curitiba. It was all over the news for months), and the text he's sent on Whatsapp is extremely poorly written (I don't mean to excuse his degree of stupidity and don't feel much sympathy for him either, even though further medical examination of Cristiana Brites - mispelled in the video - showed no sign of assault).

I defiantly agree with you that people should not be telling young children or anyone in general that their worth is based on their “purity”. Also, being a religious Christian my self, I see that there is not enough support and acceptance of people that have lost their virginity. There should be more talk about how no matter what morals people hold or things they have been taught and follow, life is going to be unfair and we can’t always be “perfect”.

I'm from the Philippines and I remember this story very well, that is also the very reason why schools and universities now refuse to do team buildings and out-of-town activities, especially provinces far from Manila. Until now, some doesn't want to join, it's just a discretion but it certainly made a backlash. Also, seniors are not allowed to join camping trips because we have a very strong belief that something might happen during these events, unfortunately those children in the video were all freshmen and they did pass away too early. It's really sad.

I live in Curitiba and when the first case in the video happened, a bit more than one year ago, made it into all headlines for weeks (you still get some occasional update on the trials and investigations once in a while). It's a well known fact that Edison Brites (now in jail) is a thug, who got rich with very suspicious business, and that, as mentioned here, further medical examination on his wife showed no signs of sexual assault. However, the victim's attitude was completely brainless and not really well-intentioned. As much as I, like basically everybody who lives here, was shocked and disgusted by learning of the crime itself, I also dislike how much the lowest part of Brazilian media tries to make a spectacle out of it, painting young mr. de Freitas as an angel, when, despite of a totally disproportional reaction by the killer and his sidekicks, his behaviour was nasty, and nowhere worthy of any praise or euphemism (I do believe he was drunk both from his face, and from how badly spelled his Whatsapp messages were, but who said it is an excuse?). That's right that everyone must pay for their crimes and trespasses, but life does not work like a tale of "good" and "bad" guys.

Very well put. It seems that there are a lot of shades of grey in this case, where nobody can really be classified as "innocent." The man certainly didn't deserve to die, but it seems like he should not have put himself in that situation with those people. And, his intentions were most likely not pure in any way. Have there been any updates on the court proceedings?

@@dvt1393 Right now, Edison Brites and 3 employees of him are the only ones who are still in jail. A last trial is supposed to happen in the first half of 2023. The family hired a notorious lawyer (Claudio Dalledone) famous for helping the defendants of very controversial cases (Google the murder of Tatiane Spitzner and the "accident" involving former congressman Fernando Ribas Carli. In both he is the accused's lawyer). The family wants to take it as far as the Supreme Court, but since the man has admitted to kill Daniel de Freitas, it's very unlikely that he would win.

Oh thank youu. To remember him, let me share a short story about him. My uncle said, at least he died doing what he loves. He's a good climber and had climbed a lot of mountains in my country, and everest was in his list. Whenever there's family gathering, we entertained by story about his journey to climb those mountain. The last time we met he said he's saving for the journey to india-himalaya with his team. That's it. I didn't know much more about the detail, but one day my dad got a call from my uncle that his son got an accident while climbing. Then, few days later we knew that he died in death zone, it's possible to get him down but cost a looot of money, so his close family decided not to but they took a flight there for ceremony, at least that's still affordable. His death was something that I never ever think may happen in my family. I saw a lot of documentary about everest before, and knew that my cousin holiday/journey to everest could killed him, like in documentaries I saw.. just.. noo.. no way..

Elizabeth does not live up to the last name “Smart”. At one point a police officer approached her and offered help, she denied and said her captor was her father. She was 14 yo, she should have known better.
@Fenrize
@Fenrize Жыл бұрын
@@ingGS It wasn't Elizabeth who claimed her captor was her father, it was the captor himself. They were questioned by the officer for their weird clothes to which the captor claimed they were for religious reasons as well as why the women weren't supposedly allowed to speak in public. The moment the officer approached them Barzee (the wife) gripped her legs under the table as a silent threat which also added to the fear and made her unable to tell the officer what was actually going on. But really, it's not the question of Elizabeth being smart (pun not intended), she was just a child who was kidnapped by that religious delusional lunatic who r#aped her who knows how many times and regularly threatened to kill her, starved her and kept her in a non-stop state of fear for her life. It really had nothing to do with her not knowing better, it was pure fear and self-preservation. I have experienced SA and the feeling of freezing is one of the worst feelings I can think of. The combination of pure primal fear and panic, it's like you're screaming in your head do something, make it stop but you can't just do anything. It's like your body just locked down but your mind is seeing everything in a tunnel vision. I hope you got something out of this because frankly your comment made you come off as pretty damn ignorant and clearly (and gladly) you've never had to experience anything remotely similar to this.
@ingGS

@@Fenrize Blah, let’s teach out kids to be aware and smart. Look at Shasta Groene, she was only 8 years old, way younger than Elizabeth, she saw her family being tortured and killed and still managed to outsmart her captor, she made him call her by the name of his own daughter and quickly found freedom when a waitress and police intervened. Some people just have stronger wills and survival instincts. And by the way, you have no idea what I have been through. Where I come from I saw things no child should, but here I am, making it work for me and others.
@Fenrize
@Fenrize Жыл бұрын
@@ingGS What's the source for the part about her making her captor call her by name? Because all I could find was that the waitress herself recognized her as a missing child and called the police, then stalled him until they arrived to arrest him. Whatever the case, it's not about having stronger will or being smarter, you shouldn't expect everyone to react exactly the same to situations such as this. It's also not about age. Age doesn't equal maturity nor doesn't define how every single person would react in such situations. Even adults might react exactly the same if they were in a same situation as Smart was. Someone could argue if Shasta Groene had actually actively flagged someone down to help her, would she have been mature enough to understand what could have possibly happened following that? What I mean by this is that this could mean she would have actually lacked the certain survival instincts and simply went about it the childish way of thinking ("this man is bad, he hurt me and my family, I can ask this kind lady to help me") and not ("Should I ask for help? I might be putting myself and this cashier along with every single person in this store in immediate danger by telling this person I have been kidnapped by a dangerous person if he realizes what's going on and reacts violently"). Of course this would be ridiculous to expect of a child, but it does put your claim of her having stronger will and survival instincts into question, not to mention of her being somehow smarter than Elizabeth Smart. We have no idea of knowing what exactly was going through Elizabeth's mind in that moment with the officer, we can only speculate. But the notion you made that she wasn't smart because she didn't tell the officer what was going on is simply disappointing considering she has said it's one of her worst regrets. It's true, I have no idea what you've gone through in your life. But if you had any kind of empathy in you, you wouldn't go on to compare people and what they went through like that. Someone could go through something in a way considered "bad" but they may still come out of it just as affected as the ones who have experienced "worse". It's not a competition. My bad, I have a really bad habit of writing novels in KZfaq comment sections.

The last one about mt Everest - some if not all of the bodies are left in place because of their location and the risk of the living to retrieve the deceased. Another reason is due to the weather. Some of the climbers died because their partner(s) simply couldn't endanger or risk their own demise by bringing them or assisting them on the descent down. Everest is very unforgiving, dangerous, and downright cruel at times. It is not for the faint of heart. It's not even a feat anymore since the hard work is done by others and even novice climbers can make the journey with proper support.

I feel bad for all the kids on the bus and their families- that’s devastating. I also feel terrible for all of the people who had to see the photo’s of Bianca in real time because that’s traumatising. Knowing that someone is being or is murdered but not knowing where so you can tell authorities... I felt terrible for her family as well. Edit: Sadly, Mt. Everest is a graveyard. So many people die trying to climb it and are never discovered. They die somewhere up the path and are never recovered.

@Randy Bobandy anything you say in opposition to the claims i made (which were all substantiated by the same video evidence _all of us_ went on, cool guy, not just you) just means to me that you're dumb enough to try something just as stupid if not worse and get killed doing so. it almost seems u wanna be argumentative for the sake of being so. So i connected some dots and made some speculations that honestly should be obvious to _everyone_ imo, big deal... move on.

@Taylor .Williams where did I justify her death? I never once said her death was justified, that’s a straw-man. I said people should take this as a lesson to be kinder to people or suggest them to get help instead of being antagonistic and making fun of them or getting drunk and making out with somebody right in front of them. Things like this happen all the time because there is a lot of degeneracy in the world and a lot of people that aren’t mentally sound. If I was trying to justify her death, I would suggest that Clark should see lenience in the legal eye, which he shouldn’t. I’m not saying she deserves to die, but she definitely wasn’t helping herself.
@Daizlol
@Daizlol 2 жыл бұрын
@Taylor .Williams let me put this into perspective. If I run down the street screaming racial slurs, and somebody shoots me. That person killing me isn’t justified, but I sure as hell had it coming, and wasn’t helping myself by provoking that person to feel the need to shoot me.
