The Evil Dead Guy discusses his Homelite Ash vs Evil Dead chainsaw hand. An introduction for the ideas, inspiration, and concept for a fully functional gas powered chainsaw that imitates the one seen by Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead movies.
This video talks about the three different working Evil Dead chainsaws modified to function and look like the saws seen on the screen.
This is not a prop replica build, however I intend to cover the build for those as well.
I have future plans to possibly show a step by step build of my working Evil Dead chainsaw for those interested. This video does discuss the steps and concept to get yourself started.

that's so awesome. I made a non-working one out of an old remington chainsaw (not exact but close to the basic shape, plus it was free) during one summer. it's pretty rough since I didn't have a lot of the proper tools (I literally just used a hacksaw and a power drill) and it's yellow instead of red (eventually I'll paint it) but it gets the compliments. but I would love to have one like this.

Thank you very much. It was hard work. Making that AVED saw look as screen accurate as possible, while being a real running chainsaw took a lot of trial and error.

If you haven't got one yet I recommend buying a cutterless chain from Forester. Lot safer and you can take it to conventions setup with one.

I've never thought about that. I had a bar and chain once from Forester. Not sure what Saw I bought it for though. I'll look into it. Thank you.

So a good way to paint the Annie chainsaw is that the black top handle part should be painted brown. Then the rest of the handle all the way to the front body line that crosses the body in the front needs to be silver. You can see that in the first cabin scene. The red in the handle when seen on the floor is from simply handling the chainsaw . They tried to make that chainsaw look like the modified chainsaws that are in the film. Groovy work btw👍

When i was 13, i made a prob Chainsaw out of cardbord, paper, tinfoil, duct tape and a masering stick to hold of the Blade part and red paint for fake blood. i'm a pro evil dead too. i'm also a write of a book that am doing, Ash Williams is in this. now i got two heroes (Bruce Campbell And The Evil Dead guy) GO EVIL DEAD!

I appreciate the interest, but a lot of liability comes with that. It took me a long time to complete this. making another or tearing it down just isn't possible. If you understand small engines I basically built a string trimmer like throttle. It's also very uncomfortable to wear. As I've made things tight fitting for looks purposes.

My main chainsaw, Ash vs Evil Dead I'd never sell. That's the one with the top lid. Too much work went into it and I regularly use it my parody videos. If I ever made any to sell it would be the flat top version. Only because I don't have proper welding tools for that top lid. The man hours that went into designing this was insane. I do appreciate the interest though. I wouldn't know what to sell one for. Replicas go for 400 and they don't have an engine. The guide bar I use isn't screen accurate and hard to come by now. Those Homelite chainsaws are getting harder to come by

How'd you modify the spark plug to fit the cuff? And what parts did you use?

My cuff is made out of PVC and I made a notch so the spark plug and boot had room without being restricted. The T-bolt clamp hides that notch I made. I'm planning on having an in-depth video (later this month) on my chainsaw build. I used PVC because of the threading to separate cuff from power glove holder where my hand is, and metal actually caused my spark plug to ground out.

@@rodeocool Yep. Once you have it placed where you need/want it, just notch out a piece so the spark plug boot isn't pinched.

@@rodeocool no worries buddy, it was difficult to figure out, but then simple once I got it together. For the throttle, you want to be able to pull on a key ring inside the cuff. Only way is to use weed Wacker throttle or picture hanger wire. Insert in the small hole on the back throttle pin, not the one the saw originally used. The one behind where the gas tank sits, but make sure you wrap the wire OVER the fuel line. If it's under, it'll get pinched and won't operate.

Tempting. Off hand not sure what I'd even charge. Are you comfortable working with chainsaws on the mechanic side. I'm soon going to film a very detailed, step-by-step tutorial. I myself do not make the red raised lids. But I will show how I did mine in the video. Hopefully it'll be out by next month. Maybe sooner.

@@logo927 okay, well that is a great birthday gift 😆my type of birthday gift. I love the Homelite Super 2. This build was some hard work. And to be honest, I modified a power tool in a rather dangerous way. But I've been around them a bit. You bought a replica from Etsy? Also a nice and simple way to make a real Evil Dead chainsaw is what I call "the Annie saw". Which is just putting on a grill piece and wood dowel for the rope.

@@TheEvilDeadGuy oh yea when I was getting my Halloween costume I went straight to Etsy and found some replica evil dead chainsaws but of course Etsy is super expensive 😭 only gripe I have with the replica I bought it’s too big and the rod inside of it is so deep in the saw the whole thing takes up half my forearm but other then that it looks pretty nifty lol

I've been wanting to. People have asked me. And it's on my to do list. It's not super hard, but filming it will require a bit. Also, most builders will not have access to the rounded top lid, so I'll demonstrate making a flat top as well.
