Makes me respect Eberle, and his work ethic, even more. One of the 3 reasons (Hall and Nugent-Hopkins being the other 2) I consider Edmonton my 2nd favorite team.

Has Jordan Eberle implemented box jumping, Power cleans, cleans or any of the many polymetric exercises into his work outs like Canucks Kuzmenko ?

What is the benefit of this compared to a straight strength program squat deadlift and overhead and or bench press? Is it the agility and speed thats the difference?

Life for a hockey player is divided into one minute bursts. After doing anything for more than a minute the guy will ask you, "Aren't we gonna sit down?"

most hockey players are pretty lean, power to weight ratio is key, and like it or not a lot of the bulk you see on weightlifters is useless when it comes to speed and endurance

Agreed. For me there is a lack of simple strength training...those guys should be able to bench 225 for 15-20 reps, squat to 320 and deadlift double their bodyweight...
@eifhsfueiushduiguidrg6684
@eifhsfueiushduiguidrg6684 4 жыл бұрын
Strength doesn’t have that big of an emphasis in the NHL anymore, it all revolves around speed and skill. All the extra mass you would have to have in order to lift high numbers would just slow you down
@williameddy1662
@williameddy1662 3 жыл бұрын
@@normvlqtte6512 Jordan Eberle weighs about 185-190 pounds . Double his bodyweight would be 370-380. He was deadlifting ABOUT 365 without too much effort . He seemed to have 4 -45 lb. weights on , plus , 4-35 lb. weights , on the Olympic bar , which is itself 45 pounds .

mainemce You've obviously never played hockey or seen Gretzky live.
@wovokanarchy
@wovokanarchy 8 жыл бұрын
Jim Taylor You don't think Gretzky would have adjusted to today's game? If he played today and adjusted his off training like players today, he would dominate the game and be in another level compared to other players. If people think Crosby or Ovie are great players today, Gretzky would make these two look like average players.
@defuzinSnipe
@defuzinSnipe 8 жыл бұрын
+wovokanarchy You're kidding right? Everyone and I mean EVERYONE is a whole lot better than gretzky's era. If he would play today, he would literally just be average. He was good for his era, but he wouldn't stand a chance in todays game. Physicality is different, speed is way faster, players are way smarter now, skating is better, playmaking is COMPLETELY different. Goalies are far better.. You obviously know nothing about hockey.
@wovokanarchy
@wovokanarchy 8 жыл бұрын
Scott O You've just proved your ignorance about the game. Gretzky and Lemieux played in an era where clutching and grabbing were the norm. They also played in an era where the ice wasn't constantly scrapped every 5 minutes.

Sets of four. Brutal! Very unimpressive. Just like Eberle. Just like the Oilers.
@fromryantoyou
@fromryantoyou 10 жыл бұрын
Why are sets of 4 brutal? In my opinion, as an aspiring strength and conditioning coach with a degree, sets of four are great for building strength and power with less of a focus on hypertrophy. There was likely an earlier phase in his training program with higher rep ranges like any periodized plan will have.

I work out harder than this and I am just a career 37 year old beer league-er. I am usually drenched in my own sweat at the end of cardio and hockey specific weight lifting. Eberle barely looked like broke a sweat, he looks so lazy here. I really wonder if these NHL players actually give a shit since they are getting paid millions to play hockey.
