I have both the EZ Red and Mountain set. Love them, my go to tool all the time. NOT a high torque tool, the hinge pin is too soft and will bend or break, and the inner ratcheting part can crack but still works. Overall, a must have for everything he described!

Was looking on Amazon. A lot of people complaining about the durability and lack of warranty. This set is $150 right now. I'm a home mechanic. That price sounds reasonable to me. The fact that you are ok with the reason they break coupled with that price, I think replacing them at $30 each, which is the individual price on Amazon atm, trumps a tool truck's price for the lifetime warranty. If I were a full-time mechanic, that warranty would be awesome.

Haha, I broke an 8mm craftsman wrench doing the exact same thing on a Jaguar trans fill plug not even a month ago! I ended up cutting off the end of an allen L wrench, which worked for me.

Love mine. 12x14 and 17x19 get a lot of play. I do have an extra 12x14 in case of breakage, as that one gets used the most. Mine are PLATINUM by ATD. Great get for any tech.

Got the same set via ATD (#99650 XL), mainly due to ease of warranty from local supplier. Agree. I use them daily. I was worried about the spline drive, but they grab pretty good. Very useful addition to the toolbox. I've reefed on them hard enough I had to put a glove on (edges are a little sharp). One warranty so far (reversing button issue).

I'm with you brother. The Mountain long (for more leverage) ratchet box wrench is my most favorite and, like you, the most used tool in my tool set. I started with the 12 / 14 mm but eventually got an used set going up to 19 mm. I'm buying another set for my mobile tool box as well. I'm going to do a video comparing and contrasting this tool with socket ratchet wrenches and short box wrenches.

I have the old Matco non offset non reversible type. Matco has since made the offset type. I’ve been meaning to pick up the newer version. I will say there a few situations where space is tight . You need the flat clearance. But if your not careful ( because it’s non reversible) you get stuck. Where you can’t run the bolt back in to remove the wrench. But you can’t get the bolt all the way out. That only happened to me once. After that I always check my wrench removal clearances.

Yours are going to break your mountain if you use them to break tight nuts and bolts.. The mountain set alone is not enough. You should also get the gearwrench 120xp wrench set. You can use the non-ratchet end of gearwrench to break loose first and then use the mountain. Doing so should make you unlikely to break any wrenches. By the way, the gearwrench non-ratchet side is offset but the ratchet end is flat. The two set wrenches complete each other. The mounttains do not have non-ratchet ends , and the gearwrenches do not have reverses. Like you, I only have the mountain set, but I am thinking about getting the gearwrench set for the usage I mentioned. One more thing, why you do not use a 6 points 1/2 drive 19mm for Honda crankbolt?

I would have to agree. I use these wrenches, branded by Monster in my case, daily. I did buy the larger set mainly for Land Rover brake caliper bolts. 21mm 12 point, so the extended size wrenches Work exceptionally for this. There are a few more uses, but for my daily, as I’m a Land Rover technician, this is the most common usage.

Buy em soon while they are in stock, because the quit making them. You already can't warranty them for the same one. The replacement they send you has a locking flex head, but it will only let a nut/bolt go in on the offset end and it's shorter.

I have a Matco set of double box ratcheting wrenches don't have a Matco truck I bought them on eBay had to buy an EZ-Red 13x15 when the 13mm head pin fell out and the the box fell off love my EZ-Red but will probably swap over to a Tekton set cause Tekton makes them in 6 pointed double box and I'm one of those guys that prefers 6 over 12 point or spline drive sockets, wrenches, ratcheting wrenches etc

I accidentally got these for free off Amazon.... 😬 they were like $150ish from what I remember, so I paid it and a week later I get a box of like 25 abrasive sponge discs. So I messaged Amazon to send me what I ordered, but they said they'll just give me a refund. So they did and the wrenches came 2 days later haha so they're DEFINITELY worth the money. For real though I use them all the time on Nissans, I am just really careful to avoid using too much force like when breaking things loose. So far so good!

I did a video on the Platinum version of these recently. Soon after Carlyle sent me their version of these for free that I also made a video on. The Carlyles are 90 tooth versions verses all the others that are 72 tooth versions. A poster on my video said the Matco versions were 90 tooth as well but I have not confirmed that. The EZ Red models now have a positive stop built into the them where the fastener will not pass all the way through, they also changed up the reversing mechanism where the switch is on top now. I would assume they are still being manufactured by Kabo.

Debating on getting these or the 120xp xl by gearwrench. I'm only a diyer, so I don't real need, and can't afford both. I know you own both sets. I really like the offset on the mountain, but the gearwrench has a zero offset on the non ratcheting end. Would you recommend buying one set over the other, and if I really should eventually buy both which should I buy first?

I’m just a backyard mechanic who works on his own cars (and sometimes friend’s cars). It seems like the main purpose of these tools is for flat rate mechanics who want to shave minutes off a job. Am I wrong? All I care about is getting the job done well (not willing to spend a bunch of money to save ten minutes changing a water pump). I have a good collection of regular box wrenches, flare wrenches, sockets, breaker bars, regular and flex head ratchets. Would I ever get into a situation where I couldn’t do the job without these, or something like this? I know you mainly advise professional auto techs, but as a DIY guy, I still love your channel.
