Reality Cannot Be Known by the Mind

What is reality? Will it always be a mystery and an unknown to us?
Rupert says: ‘The understanding that objects are real - or that things are known - and that reality is a mystery is the point of view of the mind. From this point of view, objects are real and reality is abstract, and we presume we can’t know it. But in reality, it’s the other way around: all that is known is reality, and the objects that the mind seems to know are abstract.
‘That which is known by the mind can never be known by consciousness because infinite consciousness can only know the infinite. And that which is known by consciousness itself - the one infinite reality - can never be known by the mind. Here, we take the point of view of consciousness, so we say all that is ever known is reality, and it is consciousness that knows it.’

A table is made out of molecules, but if you ask the molecules about the table they would have no idea what you are talking about and say that they are just a bunch of molecules. Similarly, all thoughts have the same substance. But from the point of view of that substance, there are no such things as thoughts, there is only the substance.

He is saying that there is no matter and therefore no molecules. It is only the way that our mind sees the world and creates the illusion of matter. The idea of matter says more about our mind than it does about reality. Matter is the main assumption that is made in science, but they have forgotten that it is assumption and so they have tried to prove this assumption even though it cannot be proved. In Rupert Spira's approach we start with what is known, namely consciousness and we do not make the assumption of matter.

@@yerberohamsa Reality can be subjective, as it is often influenced by our perceptions, beliefs, and experiences. However, there is also an objective aspect to reality which draws itself from the physical world.

If we were to translate what Albert Einstein said using Rupert Spira's terminology it would say "The universe is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one". Rupert Spira uses the word reality differently than Albert Einstein in this quote.

Agreed, we can not ‘find’ or ‘know’ the Self. It’s never lost and both points imply duality. We can only be the Self (which we always are)

I find that idea expressed at the end truly profound, that the things we call matter are the abstractions, they don't exist in reality except as ideas, and reality is that which we are used to think of as abstractions. I feel like one could meditate on this for a long time. Thank you 🙏

You are in Spirit right now. You never ever left Spirit nor ever could. You literally are just dreaming this human physical reality experience. You choose this experience. The entire experience is to Remember. Life has literally no meaning, You give life meaning. Christ Consciousness is what we are seeking in this lifetime, life experience. That is the second coming of Christ. Yes. Oh with all that we know we still have our ups and downs. I truly believe the best thing to do is meditate out in nature as Much as humanly possible. Be quiet be still. The outside noise of this illusionary world seems to keep setting us back. Even knowing that this is all an illusion. Need more time outside in nature and no light pollution and star gaze. More time with the morning sunrise to sun gazing. We choose this experience surely for a reason and purpose Knowing that we could achieve Christ Consciousness. Peace Love Oneness

The mind believes objects are separate, it believes it is separate, that is how reality becomes obscured. Reality is all inclusive, there is no separation, there is only Unity that is known directly. Before the mind jumps in with labels, stories, interpretations and narratives, it just is. Pure knowing, pure awareness. The problem is people keep looking to the mind for conceptual understanding and there isn't any to be had.

@@Insaan0457 I had an NDE where it was just pure awareness, there was no time, everything was simultaneous, no division, one. There is a certain momentum to the minds habit of instant labelling and conceptualizing so even after an insight or flash of realization, the mind does it's thing and reality can be obscured again, that's ok though. Right before the mind starts it's habit of labelling, there is a moment of "just is", or pure awareness. The mind's stories and conceptualizing is always after the fact. Here is an example. You see a beautiful sunset. There is a moment of "just is" right before the mind says "WOW! What a beautiful sunset". See if you can notice the moment before the mind jumps in, but without trying too hard.

The question Rupert never addresses is this: who is making the choice between universal awareness and the separate self? The fact that there is a choice implies that there must be a third entity (decision maker) doesn't it?

Rupert has spoken about this subject, I don't remember which video. He said something like you would have to assume that this question about choice applies to infinite consciousness, but it does not. It is to take a finite question and try to apply it to the infinite as if it works in the same way. The infinite does not play by the same rules that we assume to be true.

How can you say that Consciousness cannot know a thing when Consciousness is the thing? Are you saying that in Consciousness a human.paradox could not exist?

Consciousness knows itself by being itself. It doesn't know anything other than itself. He did not articulate that the assumption of matter, also assumes that it exists independent and outside of consciousness. It is a massive assumption to make and so why even make this assumption when it doesn't align with our experience. He is merely saying that consciousness knows nothing of matter because it is an incorrect assumption.
