Really Bad CMYK - Inkscape Developer Update, Aug 12th 2023

This week is the first week I work on the CMYK PDF project. The progress so far is going well, but this is going to be one of those 80/20 projects where all the work is going to be in the small items towards the end as we work through all the tasks.

I think having pages in Inkscape will already make a lot of Scribus users abandon Scribus. Now if we get CMYK a lot of users will abandon Illustrator and Corel DRAW and Affinity Designer as well. Great work Martin!

Scribus has a lot of features that are not in Inkscape. I don't think that will happen....

publishing is one of the open source weakest point even Scribus ..even a simple 3 folded flyer is not fun to work with. Its like CAD hassle in the open source world. p.s.but f.e. cresting a open PDF Web dokument with Adobe s editors is pain i.t.a. , too ..

@@kadjette I agree. I create books in Scribus, and have worked with Indesign for 10 years. Scribus is amazing for publishing, whether in RGB or in CMYK.

A good CMYK support would be a life saver for me, my friends and a lot of other people that use Inkscape exclusively, I had lot of trouble making a basic label (with some png images included) look decent over the years. Thanks for your work.

Ah... data "safety"..... would prefer the term "integrity" in this particular instance. That being said, what a great project and thanks Owen... for your contributions and the other developers.

Data safety usually refers to type safety, which is really important to avoid some bugs in dynamic languages.

@@softwarelivre2389 To quote Dr Google "Data safety is where data is not in danger of accidental loss or manipulation." and "Data integrity is the overall accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data." I think Owen was refering to Data Integrity, not Data Safety. However I see what you are saying.

just switched over to inkscape bc im ditching adobe, my mind is honestly blown by the work thats been put in and this in depth communication you have with the community. i think i switched at the right time too!

PLEASE! make a video how to add CMYK for inkscape and go though the settings so we can understand them.

As an old-school Adobe user I thought I'd take a deeep-dive into Inkscape for a new logo a client threw at me. I must say I'm very impressed with it so far. The CMYK thing is a real problem so excellent to hear it is being worked on; for now I just exported the file as a large .png and replaced/rendered the correct colours in Photoshop which saved the day for me.

i do not know a lot about programming. in the past, when i search for cmyk color to produce printable product find free color system that adobe use (icc color profile). is there's some wayto just add this profile and use it's colors?

Adobe sRGB icc? You can use it, but you won't be able to export it to anything except if you have scribus installed and use the scribus pdf export option... which is limited in it's supported object types.

The biggest problem for me is .SVG to CANVA is a nightmare. The most annoying thing on this planet. Please, it never was a problem, please can you hotfix this.
